(Men<\/a>)<\/p>\n

JAMESTOWN, N.D. \u2013 The Valley City State men’s cross country team placed fourth out of seven teams Friday at the University of Jamestown Invite.<\/p>\n

The Vikings totaled a 134 team score, finishing behind University of Mary, Concordia-Moorhead and Dickinson State. The Viking finished ahead of University of Jamestown, Dawson Community College and Trinity Bible College.<\/p>\n

VCSU freshmen Govani Garza<\/a> carved more than two minutes off his season-best time as ran a strong race and took advantage of a fast course Friday. Garza led the Vikings as he crossed the line in 16th place with a time of 27:49 \u2013\u00a0breaking the 30-minute mark for the first time this season. A total of 58 runners competed in the men’s 8K race on Friday.<\/p>\n

VCSU’s Jayden Wheeling<\/a> placed 24th in a time of 28:54 \u2013 also breaking the 30-minute mark for the first time this year \u2013 while Spencer Mattheis<\/a> took 45th in a time of 33:09. Jacen Eissinger<\/a> (54th, 35:16) and Wolley Tuala<\/a> (55th, 35:38) rounded out the VCSU men competing Friday.<\/p>\n

University of Mary \u2013 an NCAA Division II school \u2013 had runners take the Top 5 individual spots en route to the team title.<\/p>\n

Up next: <\/strong>Valley City State now has two weeks off before competing at the Seminole Valley Stampede in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Saturday, Oct. 26.<\/p>\n

Women<\/a><\/p>\n

JAMESTOWN, N.D. \u2013 The Valley City State women’s cross country team competed at the University of Jamestown Invite on Friday. Two Vikings placed in the Top 30 at the meet, which was held at Parkhurst Cross Country Course.<\/p>\n

Angeline Gannon<\/a> crossed the line in a time of 20:48 on Friday, placing 22nd overall to the lead the Viking women. Kirsten Ranke<\/a> was not far behind as she took 26th place with a time of 21:10.<\/p>\n

Valley City State’s women placed fifth as a team, totaling a 116 team score and finishing just one point behind University of Jamestown for fourth place.<\/p>\n

VCSU’s Brook Tibke was 33rd with a time of 22:52. Avery Vasicek<\/a> (35th, 23:25), Kristina Fricke<\/a> (37th, 23:50) and Terese Kuhbacher<\/a> (40th, 24:48) rounded out VCSU’s finishers.<\/p>\n

Concordia-Moorhead runners took home the top three spots, and the Cobbers won the team title with a score of 19.<\/p>\n
