{"id":182338,"date":"2019-10-11T11:58:54","date_gmt":"2019-10-11T16:58:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=182338"},"modified":"2019-10-13T10:07:46","modified_gmt":"2019-10-13T15:07:46","slug":"nd-activates-emergency-operations-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=182338","title":{"rendered":"ND Activates  Emergency  Operations Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bismarck \u00a0(OCT. 11, 2019)\u00a0 Governor Doug Burgum informs residents that, the North Dakotas State Emergency Operations Plan has been activated and state agencies are closely monitoring this winter storm in case local response capabilities become overwhelmed.<\/p>\n<p>The extraordinary intensity of this early winter storm threatens to test the limits<br \/>\nof local response capabilities across a large portion of our state, Burgum said.<br \/>\nWere committed to a whole-of-government approach to protect human life and<br \/>\nproperty and ensure our citizens have the resources necessary to respond and recover<br \/>\nfrom this crippling event.<\/p>\n<p>The North Dakota Department of Emergency Services (DES) is closely monitoring<br \/>\nconditions to support local and tribal officials during this storm. Response<br \/>\nresources, including those of the North Dakota National Guard, are pre-positioned<br \/>\nacross the state, and required personnel are on notice, if needed, to aid the<br \/>\ncitizens of North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>State agencies also have been in close contact with one another and with local<br \/>\nemergency managers to anticipate equipment and personnel needs should the storm<br \/>\nexceed local response capabilities. As of now, no local or tribal emergency<br \/>\ndeclarations have been issued.<\/p>\n<p>Agencies that have collaborated on these efforts this week include the North Dakota<br \/>\nDepartment of Transportation, Highway Patrol, National Guard, Department of<br \/>\nAgriculture, Department of Human Services, Department of Health, Civil Air Patrol,<br \/>\nState Radio, State Water Commission, National Weather Service, Rural Electric<br \/>\nCooperative Association and voluntary agencies, including the Red Cross.<\/p>\n<p>As the storm works across the state over the weekend, DES will continue to monitor<br \/>\nconditions.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of this storm, we need to keep our agricultural community in mind.<br \/>\nAfter an unusually wet late summer and early fall, this current weather pattern will<br \/>\nonly exacerbate some of the challenges farmers and ranchers are facing. The state is<br \/>\nexploring all possible means to assist the agricultural community, said Burgum, who<br \/>\nissued a joint release&lt;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.nd.gov\/news\/options-producers-sought-wet-weather-continues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.governor.nd.gov\/news\/options-producers-sought-wet-weather-continues<\/a>&gt; Thursday with state Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring about the state&#8217;s efforts.<\/p>\n<p>North Dakotans are encouraged to keep their neighbors in mind during these stressful<br \/>\ntimes. There are many resources available for those who may be struggling and need<br \/>\nsomeone to visit with, including local health care providers and mental health<br \/>\nprofessionals, local counselors, social workers or clergy members. The National<br \/>\nSuicide Prevention Hotline also is available at 800-273-TALK.<\/p>\n<p>Areas of North Dakota may face heightened flood risk next spring if this abnormally<br \/>\nhigh precipitation lingers over the winter. Those who think they may benefit from it<br \/>\nare encouraged to consider purchasing flood insurance.
