{"id":182685,"date":"2019-10-15T10:29:48","date_gmt":"2019-10-15T15:29:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=182685"},"modified":"2019-10-15T12:06:54","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T17:06:54","slug":"special-valley-city-commission-meeting-tues-11-a-m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=182685","title":{"rendered":"VC Commission approves Flood Declaration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-14241\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/baldhill-dam-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/baldhill-dam-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/baldhill-dam-265x175.jpg 265w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/baldhill-dam.jpg 455w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Valley City\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Valley City Commission met in Special Session Tuesday morning at City Hall.\u00a0 Commissioner Powell was not present.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioners approved a Resolution Declaring a Flood Emergency\u2026 and a Resolution Requesting Emergency Flood Assistance.\u00a0 City Administrator Schelkoph, said, with the Flood Emergency Declaration, the paperwork will be sent to the State to request a Flood Declaration, to free up any federal funding, along FEMA and other agencies assistance and services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As of Tuesday morning the Sheyenne River Level was at 13 and a half feet approaching 14 feet, with a Dam release of 3100 cfs.\u00a0 Scott Tichy at Lake Ashtabula also says that a release of 3500 cfs is likely to be needed by Thursday this week putting the river level at the 15 foot flood stage.\u00a0 No sandbagging is required at 16 feet or lower.\u00a0 He says the 3500 cfs will likely be in place into early November this year.<\/p>\n<p>A peak in flow of between 5500 cfs and 9000 cfs could happen, from runoff, and water coming in from river tributaries.<\/p>\n<p>If the Dam water level is approaching the top, a release of 4100 cfs will be required, and \u00a0the river flood stage reaches 16 feet.\u00a0 Pumping stations are also being installed within the city.<\/p>\n<p>Higher clay dikes are needed in the areas of the temporary clay dikes now in place, to an 18 foot flood stage level.<\/p>\n<p>Two feet of clay \u201cfree board,\u201d can be added to bring the protection to 18 feet to 18 and a half feet.<\/p>\n<p>Barnes County Emergency Manager, Sue Lloyd said, the Barnes County Commission is being requested to pass a Flood Declaration to also send to the state.<\/p>\n<p>With the Emergency Flood Assistance, state assistance is requested, including assistance with infrastructure \u00a0including adding to clay levees.<\/p>\n<p>Lakeshore property owners should take the necessary precautions to protect their property, like pulling their docks, if necessary.
