Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi) The \u201cStuff the Civic\u201d event, organized by the Student Council at Jamestown High School, Friday, collected about 3,000 non-perishable food items, donated by students and the public at Jamestown Civic Center .<\/p>\n

The Stuff The Civic Center event was organized by the Jamestown High School, Student Council.<\/p>\n

Students also visited participating businesses to collect food items.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 Jamestown Student Council says the items will go to local food pantries.<\/p>\n

The goal was to collect 10,000 pounds of non-perishable food items.<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown\u00a0 (NDFU) \u00a0\u2013 The Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s (EPA) recent announcement of the 2020 Renewable Volume Obligations under the nation\u2019s Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) is one more empty promise to farmers, said North Dakota Farmers Union President Mark Watne.<\/p>\n

He says, \u201cThis administration continues to say it supports farmers and renewable fuel production, but their promises are empty.\u00a0 Lowering biofuel production is bad for farm income, it\u2019s bad for the environment, and it\u2019s bad for rural communities that have lost jobs due to RFS waivers they\u2019ve granted to oil companies over the past three years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since 2016, the administration has granted more than 85 waivers to oil refineries, exempting them from meeting required levels of biofuel production under the RFS. That law is intended to increase ethanol and biodiesel production annually and has been an important market for corn producers in North Dakota.<\/p>\n

Watne urged EPA last month to change its calculation approach and incorporate the exempted gallons from waivers into volume requirements based on a three-year average. The former would have increased the amount of production by 1.35 billion gallons per year, compared to the announced 770 million gallons.<\/p>\n

Watne adds, \u201cWe need to build agricultural markets, not hurt them.\u00a0 The administration needs to do more than pay lip service to farmers. Their actions continue to speak louder than words.\u201d<\/p>\n

Watne says ethanol drives the demand for corn, and corn sales typically lead commodity price increases.<\/p>\n

\"\"(AP)\u00a0 (KFYR<\/a>)\u00a0 A landslide has closed a road in the Bismarck area, but authorities say no one has been injured. A driver called authorities Sunday afternoon about the impassable River Road. It wasn’t immediately known what caused the landslide that blocked both lanes of traffic. Burleigh County highway department engineers were assessing the situation and how best to reopen the road.<\/p>\n

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) \u2014 Authorities say two brothers are dead after being overcome by fumes in a grain silo on a western Minnesota farm. The Star Tribune reports the victims were identified as 47-year-old Curt F. Boesl and 49-year-old Steven T. Boesl. Authorities say an 11-year-old son of Curt Boesl’s, Alex, also fell ill to the fumes late Saturday morning near Millerville and was taken by air ambulance to a Twin Cities hospital. His condition has not been released. Ambulance personnel declared Steven Boesl dead at the scene. Curt Boesl died Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Gov. Doug Burgum has chosen Grand Forks for his State of the State address next month. Burgum will give his speech Jan. 29 at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on the University of North Dakota campus. The event is free and open to the public. The Greater North Dakota Chamber is sponsoring the event, which will be livestreamed. Additional details will be released in coming weeks. It will be Burgum’s fourth State of the State address. His first and second came in Bismarck during years the Legislature was in session. His second speech, in 2018, was in Minot.<\/p>\n

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) \u2014 A new survey of bankers indicates a waning economy in rural parts of 10 Plains and Western states, and weak farm income is hurting producers’ ability to borrow money from banks. The Rural Mainstreet survey shows its overall index fell to to 50.2 this month from 54.2 in November. Any score above 50 suggests a growing economy, while a score below 50 indicates a shrinking economy. Creighton University economist Ernie Goss oversees the survey and says federal agriculture crop support payments and somewhat higher grain prices kept the overall index from falling into negative territory. Bankers from Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming were surveyed.<\/p>\n

\"\"(VCSU<\/a>) Valley City State University running back Louis Quinones<\/a> was named to the Associated Press NAIA All-America 2nd Team on Friday \u2013 the latest accolade collected by VCSU\u2019s record-breaking running back.<\/p>\n

Quinones was named 2nd Team All-American on Friday as an all-purpose player after excelling as a running back and kick returner throughout his Viking career. He led the nation in all-purpose yards this season, racking up 210 total yards per game. He also led the NAIA in rushing yards per game (150). <\/span><\/p>\n

Despite missing two games to injury, Quinones racked up 1198 rushing yards, 12 touchdowns and 1678 all-purpose yards during the 2019 campaign \u2013\u00a0helping VCSU to a 7-3 overall record.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quinones was one of just six running backs across the nation named to the AP All-America Team \u2013 either as a running back or all-purpose player. The Associated Press NAIA All-America Team is voted on by a collection of media members and sports information directors from across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Quinones was named Honorable Mention NAIA All-American by the American Football Coaches\u2019 Association. He was also named First Team All-Conference as a running back and Second Team All-Conference as a kick returner. He achieved All-Conference as both a running back and returner in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quinones also broke the VCSU career rushing record this season and tied the school record for rushing touchdowns, finishing his Viking career with 3530 rushing yards and 36 rushing touchdowns.<\/span><\/p>\n

(AP) Christian Watson scored long touchdowns on back-to-back touches early in the second quarter and two-time defending FCS champion North Dakota State blitzed Montana State 42-14 in a semifinal for its 36th straight victory.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trey Lance found Watson behind the defense along the left sideline for a 75-yard touchdown one play after the Bobcats tied the game at 7. After a three-and-out by Montana State, Watson went 70 yards on a reverse. Lance threw for three touchdowns and scored two rushing touchdowns. The top-seeded Bison face James Madison. James Madison beat the Bison in the semifinals in 2016. Montana State lost to NDSU 52-10 in the second round last year.<\/p>\n

(AP)\u00a0 The Minnesota Twins have agreed to deals with two right-handed relievers, Sergio Romo and Tyler Clippard. Romo is guaranteed $5 million on a contract that comes with a club option for 2021. He joined the team last July in a trade with San Francisco. He had a 3.18 ERA in 22-plus innings.<\/p>\n

Clippard gets a $2.75 million, one-year deal. He posted a 2.90 ERA in 62 innings for division rival Cleveland in 2019. The Twins had a 4.17 relief ERA last season, ranking 10th in the major leagues.<\/p>\n

NFL…<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) \u2014The Eagles have wrested control of the NFC East lead from Dallas with a 17-9 victory over the Cowboys in Philadelphia. Cornerback Sidney Jones broke up Dak Prescott’s fourth-down pass to wide receiver Michael Gallup in the end zone with 1:15 left to secure the win for the 8-7 Eagles. Carson Wentz was 31 for 40 for 319 yards and a touchdown, and Miles Saunders ran for a score to help Philadelphia prevent Dallas from clinching the division title.<\/p>\n

Philly clinches with a win over the Giants next Sunday. The Cowboys take the division if they beat Washington and the Eagles fall to New York.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2014 The Broncos got a 27-17 win over the Lions as Drew Lock threw a shovel pass to DaeSean Hamilton to put Denver ahead. Lock finished 25 of 33 for 192 yards in improving to 3-1 as the Broncos starter. The Lions got a punt return for a score from Jamal Agnew but absorbed their eighth consecutive loss.<\/p>\n

\u2014 The Chiefs still have a shot for a first-round playoff bye after Patrick Mahomes (mah-HOHMZ\u2019) threw for two touchdowns and ran for another score to lead the AFC West champions to a 26-3 win over the Bears in Chicago. The reigning MVP is the fastest quarterback to 9,000 passing yards and 75 touchdown throws, doing it in his 30th game. Kansas City earned its fifth straight win and at 11-4 remained a game behind New England for the AFC’s second seed.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Baltimore Ravens have clinched home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs for the first time, but the final playoff berth in the conference remains very much up in the air.<\/p>\n

The Ravens trailed 6-0 late in the first half before picking up their 11th straight win, 31-15 at Cleveland. Lamar Jackson threw two of his three touchdown passes to Mark Andrews just before halftime as Baltimore avenged one of its two losses this season. Jackson finished with 238 yards passing and went over 100 yards rushing for the fifth time this season, finishing with 103.<\/p>\n

The Ravens improved to 13-2, and the Browns eliminated themselves by falling to 6-9.<\/p>\n

The bottom of the AFC playoff picture couldn\u2019t be settled following losses by Tennessee and Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

The Titans built a 14-0 first-half lead before falling to 8-7 with a 38-28 loss to New Orleans. Drew Brees (breez) threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns and Alvin Kamara ran for two TDs to help the Saints move to 12-3. They scored 24 straight points to keep alive their chance at one of the NFC’s top two seeds and a first-round playoff bye. Pro Bowl wide receiver Michael Thomas also set the NFL record for most catches in a season with 145 after grabbing 12 more against the Titans.<\/p>\n

Former Steeler Le\u2019Veon (LEH\u2019-vee-ahn) Bell damaged his old team\u2019s playoff hopes by running for 72 yards on 25 carries in the Jets\u2019 16-10 victory against Pittsburgh. Sam Darnold was 16 of 26 for 183 yards and a touchdown to Robby Anderson as the 6-9 Jets dropped the Steelers to 8-7. Devlin Hodges had a chance to put Pittsburgh ahead until he threw incomplete passes to end the Steelers\u2019 final drive at the Jets 44.<\/p>\n

The Raiders kept their AFC playoff hopes alive as Derek Carr threw for 291 yards and a touchdown in a 24-17 victory over the Chargers. Carr completed 26 of 30 passes and ran for a score to help Oakland end a three-game skid and improve to 7-8. Hunter Renfrow had his first 100-yard receiving game with seven catches for 107 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n

The Seahawks lost control of the NFC West lead with a 27-13 setback against the visiting Cardinals. Kenyan Drake rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns as Arizona dropped Seattle a game behind San Francisco for the division lead. Larry Fitzgerald added a 21-yard TD reception for the Cardinals, who took advantage of the Seahawks\u2019 depleted defense.<\/p>\n

Seattle will have to beat the 49ers next Sunday to win their division. The NFL has flexed the game to prime time.<\/p>\n

Also in Week 16 of the NFL\u2019s 100th season:<\/p>\n

\u2014 Nyheim Hines scored on two punt returns and set up another touchdown with a 40-yard return four plays into the Colts\u2019 38-6 rout of the Panthers. Hines had 195 yards on three returns, the highest single-game mark in franchise history and the most by any NFL player since Eddie Drummond had 199 against Jacksonville in 2004. The 7-8 Colts snapped a four-game losing streak and handed the 5-10 Panthers their seventh consecutive loss.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Devonta Freeman scored two TDs for the Falcons before Jacksonville took a snap giving Atlanta enough of a cushion to cruise past the Jaguars, 24-12. Matt Ryan threw for 384 yards and Julio Jones had his biggest game of the year, hauling in 10 catches for 166 yards. Atlanta racked up 518 total yards and improved to 6-9 with their its straight win while dropping the Jags to 5-10.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Miami gave up 16 points in the final 29 seconds of regulation before Jason Sanders kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired in overtime to give the Dolphins a 38-35 win over the Bengals. Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 419 yards and four scores, including one to rookie defensive tackle Christian Wilkins. UNDATED (AP) \u2014 The Toronto Raptors have extended their winning streak to five games by pulling off the NBA\u2019s largest comeback victory in a decade.<\/p>\n

Toronto trailed 83-53 with 2:55 remaining in the third before rallying for a 110-107 triumph over the Dallas Mavericks. It was the first 30-point comeback in the NBA since Sacramento beat Chicago on Dec. 21, 2009.<\/p>\n

Kyle Lowry scored 20 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 10 assists. Lowry also had as many points as Dallas while the Raptors outscored the Mavericks, 47-21.<\/p>\n

Chris Boucher scored a career-high 21 points and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson scored 18 as the Raptors improved to 13-3 at home.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred with 2:53 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Wizards\u2019 125-108 loss to the 76ers. Thomas said he approached a fan after being cursed at repeatedly.<\/p>\n

A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press the Jays have worked out a four-year, $80 million package with Hyun-Jin Ryu (HYOON\u2019-jihn ree-OO\u2019). The South Korean native compiled a 2.32 earned run average and tied his career high for victories, going 14-5 with 163 strikeouts in 182 2\/3 innings.<\/p>\n

Ryu was named to the 2019 NL All-Star team and finished second in the league\u2019s Cy Young balloting. He is 54-33 with a 2.98 ERA in 126 big league games since 2013, all with the Los Angeles Dodgers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) \u2014 Flash flooding and heavy rains have delayed dozens of flights and disrupted some services at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida. The airport tweeted early Monday that it was closed due to flash flooding and severe rains. It tweeted at about 6:30 a.m. that flight operations were resuming. The airport had issued an advisory late Sunday that said more than 150 of its flights were experiencing weather delays and 11 flights had been canceled. WPTV-TV reports areas around the airport had been hit with about 6 inches of rain since midnight.<\/p>\n

DENVER (AP) \u2014 A United Airlines flight from New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport had a rough landing in Denver. The crew aboard Flight 2429 reported a mechanical issue after the Boeing 737-800 landed safely shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday. Some passengers said they saw sparks on the runway. Passengers used a stairway to get off the plane and were bused to the terminal. In a statement, the airline said the aircraft was taken out of service and is being inspected by maintenance teams. No injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) \u2014 A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced five people to death for the killing of Washington Post columnist and royal family critic Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul last year by a team of Saudi agents. Saudi Arabia’s state TV reported that three others were sentenced to prison. All can appeal the verdicts. The kingdom’s crown prince has drawn international condemnation for the killing because several Saudi agents involved had worked directly for him. The kingdom has carried out the trials of the accused in near total secrecy.<\/p>\n

MOSCOW (AP) \u2014 Russia has vowed to retaliate against the U.S. sanctions against a new Russia-Germany pipeline, the work on which was suspended on Saturday. U.S. President Donald Trump signed legislation last week that provides for sanctions against individuals and companies involved with the vessels laying the Nord Stream 2 pipeline under the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany. The move prompted a Swiss company that operates ships laying sections of the pipeline to suspend the work.
