\"\"Jamestown\u00a0 (National Buffalo Museum)\u00a0 \u2013 The National Buffalo Museum has been awarded a Cultural Heritage Grant from the State Historical Society of North Dakota <\/a>for $36,000 to inventory, evaluate, and care for the museum\u2019s collection. Rachel Johnson, the museum\u2019s Assistant Director\/Curator of Collections will head the project.<\/p>\n

The News Release states:\u00a0 The grant will fund a full-time contracted position to inventory and document the objects housed at the museum. The Museum will match grant funds through staff and volunteer time, computer and network improvements in the building, and the established collections care budget.<\/p>\n

\"\"Museum Dirctor Ilana Xinos says, \u201cWe are so thankful to the State Historical Society of North Dakota for awarding us these funds. The National Buffalo Museum is growing, and this project supports that growth. In the past, our museum \u2013 like many small museums \u2013 did not have the capacity to undertake this type of collections project and we just did the best we could with what we had. It is exciting to see that as we grow, we are able to make proper stewardship of our collection a priority.\u201d<\/p>\n

The National Buffalo Museum\u2019s mission is to advocate for the restoration of the North American bison through education and outreach. The Museum opened in 1993 to address the need for a facility to house and display accumulated bison-related artifacts, artwork, and historical memorabilia. The Museum is home to the Buffalo Hall of Fame, where visitors learn about the individuals who have had significant impacts on conservation and restoration of the US National Mammal.<\/p>\n

\"\"Valley City\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 Barnes County Auditor Beth Didier estimates the \u00a0cost to taxpayers to build the proposed new Barnes County jail would cost those who own residential property valued at $100,000 is an additional $45. \u00a0$50 more for an Agriculture or commercial property per year, over a 20 year period.<\/p>\n

On an average quarter section of land, the cost to the tax would increase by $82.72 per year over 20 years.<\/p>\n

The estimated cost to build the new jail is $11.9 million plus $4.4 million for a new sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

Didier says the \u00a0county is working to get the estimated operating cost.<\/p>\n

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AP) \u2014 More than 300 American cruise ship passengers, including 14 who tested positive for coronavirus, are being quarantined at military bases in California and Texas after arriving from Japan on charter flights overnight. One plane carrying cruise passengers touched down at Travis Air Force Base in Northern California just before midnight Sunday. Another arrived at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas early Monday. The passengers will be quarantined at the bases for two weeks. Japan’s defense minister tweeted earlier that Japanese troops helped transport 340 U.S. passengers from the port to Tokyo’s airport. About 380 Americans were on the cruise ship.<\/p>\n

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) \u2014 Billionaire Mike Bloomberg is taking lots of heat from his rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination. On Monday, he answered in kind. The former New York mayor tweeted a video mashup of aggressive and threatening comments made by people who appear to be Bernie Sanders supporters, juxtaposed with Sanders calling for \u201ccivil discourse.\u201d Bloomberg said such aggression won’t give Democrats the unity they need to beat President Donald Trump. Bloomberg isn’t contesting the Nevada caucuses next weekend. But he may be on the cusp of qualifying for the debate Wednesday. Sanders, Joe Biden, Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg have made it clear they’d like to get him on the stage.<\/p>\n

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) \u2014 Days and days of heavy rain have forced authorities managing dams in Mississippi and Tennessee to release more water, worsening the flooding for people living downstream. Mississippi’s governor is telling people not to return to their flooded homes until they get an official OK, especially with more rain in the forecast. Dramatic video by a Tennessee fire department captured houses tumbling down a bluff over the Tennessee River. Entire neighborhoods have disappeared in the muddy flood waters below the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Pickwick Reservoir. And in Mississippi, authorities say as many as 1,000 homes have been flooded.<\/p>\n
