(AP) \u2014 A group that handles accreditation for North Dakota colleges says it is investigating a complaint by a former college president over the state&#8217;s higher education leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Former Valley City State University president Ellen Chaffee filed the complaint in April with the Higher Learning Commission, which approves programs for 1,000 colleges in 19 states.<\/p>\n<p>Chaffee says Chancellor Hamid Shirvani has been ineffective since he took over the job a year ago and believes it could hurt accreditation of some programs.<\/p>\n<p>Linda Donlin, a spokeswoman for Shirvani, says university system officials are confident that the commission will find that the complaint lacks substance.<\/p>\n<p>The Forum newspaper reports that Shirvani and state Board of Higher Education President Duaine Espegard have until June 15 to respond to the allegations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FARGO, N.D.
