The individual from Morton County is a woman in her 30s who is not hospitalized and is self-isolating at home.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0NDDoH\u00a0is working to identify other individuals who may have come into close contact with the patient while she was symptomatic. These individuals will be contacted directly by the\u00a0NDDoH. These individuals will be monitored by public health for fever and respiratory symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first confirmed case of community transmission in North Dakota, and it reinforces the importance for all North Dakotans to practice social distancing and stay home when you\u2019re sick, even if it\u2019s minor,\u201d Gov. Doug Burgum said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you are sick, you need to stay home. If you are being tested for COVID-19 or a family member is, you need to stay home until your test results are in,\u201d said\u00a0Mylynn\u00a0Tufte, North Dakota State Health Officer. \u201cSelf-isolating, washing your hands and keeping six feet away from other individuals is the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Burgum, Tufte and other state officials and health professionals will hold a press conference at 4 p.m. today at the\u00a0NDDoH, 1720 Burlington Drive, Bismarck. The press conference will be livestreamed on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ndhealth\/\">NDDoH Facebook Page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Burgum, Tufte and state health officials strongly recommend that North Dakotans follow the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/03.16.20_coronavirus-guidance_8.5x11_315PM.pdf\">guidelines<\/a>\u00a0released by the White House on Monday to slow the spread of coronavirus, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stay home and don\u2019t go to work if you feel sick.<\/li>\n<li>Practice good hygiene: wash your hands, avoid touching your face and cover coughs and sneezes.<\/li>\n<li>If someone in the household has tested positive for coronavirus, keep the entire household at home.<\/li>\n<li>Older individuals and those with underlying health conditions should stay away from other people.<\/li>\n<li>Work from home when possible.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid social gatherings of more than 10 people.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid eating or drinking in bars, restaurants and food courts \u2013 use drive-thru, pickup or delivery options.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid discretionary travel, shopping trips and social visits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Health officials also ask individuals returning from traveling on a cruise ship\u00a0or individuals returning from skiing in Colorado to self-isolate for two weeks\u00a0and\u00a0self-report\u00a0on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ndhealth.co1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_eb7sJjKhR2UfB7n\">NDDoH website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms of COVID-19 in people who have been exposed can include fever, cough and shortness of breath. The symptoms may appear in as few as two days or\u00a0as long as\u00a014 days after exposure. Reported illnesses have ranged from people with little to no symptoms to people being severely ill and dying.\u00a0Individuals who think they may have COVID-19 but\u00a0have minor symptoms should self-isolate\u00a0at home.
