(CSi) – The ND Department of Health Thursday confirmed\u00a08 new cases\u00a0of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in\u00a0residents from\u00a0Burleigh and Morton\u00a0counties.\u00a0Six individuals have a history of travel and two individuals are community\u00a0spread.\u00a0So far in North\u00a0Dakota,\u00a0508\u00a0individuals have been tested,\u00a0493\u00a0were negative,\u00a015\u00a0are positive\u00a0and 1 of the individuals is hospitalized.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the last 24 hours our numbers have doubled,\u201d said State Health Officer Mylynn Tufte. \u201cThis underscores the importance of practicing social distancing\u00a0and following the President\u2019s recommendations to slow the spread of COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gov. Doug\u00a0Burgum, Tufte\u00a0and state health officials\u00a0strongly recommend\u00a0North Dakotans to follow the\u00a0guidelines<\/a>\u00a0released by the White House on Monday to slow the spread of coronavirus, including:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n To address the shortage of nylon swabs, the NDDoH has recommended to health care providers that testing be prioritized for the following groups:<\/p>\n Individuals who think they may have COVID-19 but have minor symptoms should self-isolate at home. Individuals seeking medical attention should call before they go in.\u00a0Symptoms of COVID-19 in people who have been exposed can include fever, cough and shortness of breath. The symptoms may appear in as few as two days or\u00a0as long as\u00a014 days after\u00a0exposure. Reported illnesses have ranged from people with little to no symptoms to people being severely ill and dying.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Burgum\u00a0and\u00a0State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler\u00a0will hold a press conference at 4 p.m. today at the NDDoH, 1720 Burlington Drive, Bismarck\u00a0to discuss the plans for K-12 education.
