News) \u2014 A student from Germany was hosted in Montpelier, and spent the past academic year, as a junior<i> <\/i>at Montpelier High School.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday\u2019s (Jun 10, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Catherine Scott of Jamestown said she has worked since 1988 with the American Institute for Foreign Study Foundation\u2019s, Academic Year in America (AYA) program, founded in 1981.<\/p>\n<p>On our show was 17 year old Melanie Huellen, from the Hamburg, Germany area.<\/p>\n<p>Melanie was a junior at Montpelier, and enjoyed living on a farm, which was far different from here city life experiences in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s leaving and heading home on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>She will be junior this coming school year in Germany, which has one extra year of high school in their school systems.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Scott said the foreign exchange students host families provide a home and transportation, three meals a day on weekends, and holidays. News) &#8212; A ceremony honoring the nation\u2019s flag, and an official flag retirement ceremony are planned for Flag Day June 14, 2013, at 7-p.m., at Fort Seward in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Following a short program the Girl Scouts of Jamestown will conduct the retirement ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony is sponsored by the Patriotic Council of Jamestown, which will serve refreshments and cookies after the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.<\/p>\n<p>People who have old, faded or torn flags can bring them to the ceremony for proper disposal, or drop them off at the All Vets Club, 116 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street East in Jamestown by June 12<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Fort Seward is located on the northwest hill of Jamestown, on U.S Highway 281.<\/p>\n<p>The Patriotic Council is made up of representatives of The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Vets, 40 &amp; 8, and AMVETS and their Auxiliaries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota State star linebacker Travis Beck has been charged with felony aggravated assault.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0Beck was charged with assault Monday in East Central District Court. The charge stems from an incident late Saturday night outside a Fargo bar.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It was the second time Beck has had a run-in with the law in his NDSU career. He was fined and sentenced to 40 hours of community service after pleading guilty to underage drinking. A charge of resisting a police officer was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Beck was named the most valuable player in the 2011 Division I Football Championship Subdivision title game. It was the first of NDSU&#8217;s back-to-back national titles.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 NDSU head coach Craig Bohl could not be immediately reached for comment.<br \/>\n\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A woman is in custody after an overnight standoff in Grand Forks.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the woman was armed and apparently suicidal, and refused to leave her home. Some area residents were evacuated as a precaution.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The incident began late Sunday when emergency workers responded to a report of a person suffering a heart attack. Officers later determined that the person had been in a confrontation with the woman.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The woman was taken into custody about 5 a.m. Monday and brought to a hospital for evaluation. She was not immediately charged with a crime.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A former Fargo investment broker has pleaded guilty to bilking 19 investors out more than $900,000.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n65-year-old Robert Medhus (MAY-hoos) pleaded guilty to 16 felony charges Monday in East Central District Court.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Medhus will be sentenced after a presentence investigation is completed. Prosecutors say they will ask for a sentence of eight years in prison. There is no plea agreement.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors say Medhus forged client checks, created fake investment account statements and failed to invest client assets as promised.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kelly Mathias is the supervisor of investigations for the North Dakota Securities Department. She says some of the investors are in their 90s.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Medhus and his attorney, John Goff, declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Load restrictions have been lifted on most North Dakota highways.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Seasonal load limits guard against damage to roads made susceptible by the spring thaw. They&#8217;re lifted when roadbeds have stabilized enough to handle normal traffic.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Transportation Department says restrictions were lifted on most highways Monday. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s Agriculture Department has scheduled a dozen sites for this year&#8217;s round of Project Safe Send chemical collections.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The program gives state residents a way to dispose of unusable herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides and fungicides free of charge. It&#8217;s funded by fees that pesticide manufacturers pay to register their products in North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says that over the past 20 years, thousands of people have brought more than 3 million pounds of chemicals to Project Safe Send sites.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This year&#8217;s collections begin July 9 in Underwood and end July 25 in Casselton. (AP) &#8211; The all-time leading scorers in University of North Dakota women&#8217;s basketball and men&#8217;s hockey are part of this year&#8217;s class being inducted into the school&#8217;s athletic hall of fame.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jenny Crouse led UND to three straight NCAA Division II women&#8217;s basketball titles and ended her career with 2,284 points. The UND program went 116-12 during her four years.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Greg Johnson finished his UND career with 272 points, including a WCHA-record 198 assists. He was a three-time finalist for the Hobey Baker award, given to the top player in college hockey. (AP) &#8211; George Zimmerman has had a look Monday at the people who might decide whether he committed second-degree murder. His trial in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin is getting under way with jury selection near Orlando, Fla. The first group of 100 potential jurors today filled out questionnaires, as prosecutors and defense lawyers look for six jurors and four alternates. Jury selection is expected to take all week, at least. Defense lawyers will be trying to convince them that Zimmerman believed his life was in danger when he shot the unarmed teen.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 HONG KONG (AP) &#8211; Will he be safe in Hong Kong? Not necessarily. The U.S. defense contractor who says he leaked information on classified U.S. surveillance programs is hoping to stay out of U.S. custody by taking refuge there. Although it has some autonomy, Hong Kong ultimately answers to Beijing, which is often at odds with Washington. But the U.S. is one of the largest investors in Hong Kong, and there&#8217;s an extradition treaty between the two.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BERLIN (AP) &#8211; There&#8217;s another sign of the international backlash over the recently-disclosed electronic surveillance efforts of the U.S. government. Germany&#8217;s chancellor will be meeting with President Barack Obama next week in Berlin, and she&#8217;s planning to raise the issue. Germany wants to know if the privacy rights of any of its citizens have been infringed. (AP) &#8211; Students are back at Santa Monica College in southern California for the first time since Friday&#8217;s shooting rampage. Still off limits is the library, where police shot and killed a heavily armed gunman who they say had killed five people.
