He was 81.<\/p>\n<div id=\"mpu-plus-top-right-rail\" class=\"ad-mpu-plus-top-right-rail ad-wrapper \" data-ad=\"mpu-plus-top-right-rail\" data-ad-unit=\"&quot;mpu-plus-top-right-rail&quot;\" data-google-query-id=\"COOTmq6G1usCFVHawAodZ0EPzQ\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/8264\/aw-cbsnews\/us_0__container__\">A confusing midseason trade between rivals in 1964 turned into an all-time heist because of what Brock did for his new team. He was part of a six-player deal between the Cubs and Cardinals at the June 15 deadline that year: Brock and pitchers Jack Spring and Paul Toth went from Chicago to St. Louis for pitchers Ernie Broglio and Bobby Shantz and outfielder Doug Clemens.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Dick Zitzmann, Brock&#8217;s longtime agent and friend, confirmed Brock&#8217;s death on Sunday, but he said he couldn&#8217;t provide any details. The Cardinals and Cubs also observed a moment of silence in the outfielder&#8217;s memory before their game at Wrigley Field.<\/p>\n<p>Brock lost a leg from diabetes in recent years and was diagnosed with cancer in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over my 25-plus years of being his agent, he was perhaps the happiest Hall of Famer I&#8217;ve ever encountered,&#8221; Zitzmann said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think he led a life that will never be duplicated,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Brock closed out his career in 1979 by batting .304, making his sixth All-Star Game appearance and winning the Comeback Player of the Year award.
