College Baseball<\/p>\n

VALLEY CITY, N.D.\u00a0 <\/strong>(UJ<\/a>) — An eighth-inning rally by the University of Jamestown baseball team came up short against Valley City State Tuesday night as the Vikings defeated the Jimmies 9-4 at Charlie Brown Field.<\/p>\n

Kendall Yackley<\/a> (SO\/Lynnwood, WA)’s two-out solo home run in the top of the third put the Jimmies in front early.<\/p>\n

The Vikings responded with two runs in the bottom of the third, then added single runs in each of the next three innings.<\/p>\n

UJ rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Brian Rice<\/a> (JR\/Vancouver, WA) and a two-run single by Tayler Cullen<\/a> (JR\/Santa Rosa, Calif.) to make it 5-4.<\/p>\n

VCSU took advantage of two Jimmie errors, a pair of walks, and strung together three hits to bring in four runs in the bottom of the eighth and stretch their lead to 9-4.<\/p>\n

Jamestown went down in order in the top of the ninth and fell to 1-4 this season.<\/p>\n

Cullen was 2-for-5 to lead the offense. Michael Asahara<\/a> (SO\/Spanaway, Wash.) and Grant Okawa<\/a> (SR\/Mississauga, ON) also had hits for UJ.<\/p>\n

Kensaku Akiya<\/a> (SR\/Kawasaki, Japan) started for Jamestown and lasted 4 2\/3 innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on seven hits. He walked two and struck out seven.<\/p>\n
