News) &#8212; The newest addition to Arcadia Publishing\u2019s &#8220;Images of America,&#8221; series is JAMESTOWN.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable two, Keith Norman, who co-authored the book along with Tom Domek and Journe Domek, said the book contains more than 200 images, chronicling the growth and change in the area.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the historical photos, &#8220;Images of America: Jamestown,&#8221; features a wide assortment of local characters including\u2026.Anton Klaus \u2018The father of Jamestown,\u2019 Peggy Lee, and Louis L\u2019Amour.<\/p>\n<p>Norman said the photos were obtained from various sources, including from private individuals, the National Buffalo Museum, the Stutsman County Memorial Museum and other historical archives.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Domek, originally from Marion, North Dakota, has authored five other books including &#8220;Images of America: Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, and Keystone.<\/p>\n<p>Keith Norman is the author of eight books including the &#8220;Great Stories of the Great Plains,&#8221; series, and &#8220;Great People of the Great Plains,&#8221; with those books still available to purchase at the National Buffalo Museum in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Images of America, Jamestown,&#8221; is a 128 page soft-cover book with over 200 images, and is sold at a cost of $24.99.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. \u2013 In accordance with a proclamation signed by President Barack Obama, Governor Jack Dalrymple is calling on North Dakotans to observe Flag Day, Friday, June 14, by displaying the American flag and honoring those who have served and sacrificed in defense of our great nation.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor directs officials to display the American flag on all government buildings at full staff throughout Flag Day and encourages citizens to fly the Stars and Stripes from their homes and other suitable places.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Since its adoption in 1777, the American flag has symbolized freedom and opportunity for generations of Americans, embodying our nation\u2019s highest ideals of equality and justice for all,&#8221; Dalrymple said. &#8220;As we look upon the flag, we are reminded of the great sacrifices that have been made, and continue to be made, by our brave men and women in uniform, who throughout our history, have defended the flag and the liberties for which it stands. Today, we honor them and celebrate all that Old Glory represents for our state and nation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dalrymple is also encouraging North Dakotans to observe the days from Flag Day through Independence Day as a time to honor America, to celebrate our rich heritage, and to express our gratitude to those who have secured our freedoms and to those who defend them still today.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2014 A ceremony honoring the nation\u2019s flag, and an official flag retirement ceremony are planned for Flag Day June 14, 2013, at 7-p.m., at Fort Seward in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Following a short program the Girl Scouts of Jamestown will conduct the retirement ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony is sponsored by the Patriotic Council of Jamestown, which will serve refreshments and cookies after the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.<\/p>\n<p>People who have old, faded or torn flags can bring them to the ceremony for proper disposal, or drop them off at the All Vets Club, 116 1<sup>st<\/sup> Street East in Jamestown by June 12<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Fort Seward is located on the northwest hill of Jamestown, on U.S Highway 281.<\/p>\n<p>The Patriotic Council is made up of representatives of The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Vets, 40 &amp; 8, and AMVETS and their Auxiliaries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities have arrested a man they say robbed a pharmacy in Dickinson.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say they found suspect Joshua Hunt at a truck stop early Thursday. They had been searching for him since he allegedly entered the Irsfeld Pharmacy about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and passed an employee a threatening note demanding drugs.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nHunt was arrested\u00a0 without incident. He was jailed pending formal charges.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; An Arkansas man who spent 542 days in a North Dakota jail before he was cleared of attempted murder is suing police and others over the investigation of the case.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thomas James Mashburn was accused of stabbing Jay Rasberry after an argument that started inside a Minot bar in September 2011. The case was dismissed on March 2.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mashburn is claiming civil rights violations and false imprisonment. Lawyers for law enforcement deny the allegations.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Investigators believe Mashburn stabbed Rasberry in the throat with a serrated knife. Ward County prosecutor Sean Kasson said there was a lack of credible evidence and asked to have the case dismissed.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The lawsuit was filed earlier in state court, but defendants in the case are seeking to have the complaint heard in federal court.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Officials at Minot Air Force Base say the 91st Missile Wing&#8217;s operations support squadron commander is being replaced because a loss of confidence in his ability to provide necessary leadership.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wing Commander Col. Robert Vercher announced Thursday that Lt. Col. Randy Olson is being relieved of duty. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota University System says a public notice was not required for meetings involving state Board of Higher Education members and university leaders.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Bismarck Tribune reports that three board members met individually with the state&#8217;s college and university presidents Wednesday in Bismarck.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 University System spokeswoman Linda Donlin says a quorum of the board was not present, so no public notice was required. She says the purpose of the meetings was to discuss the future of the university system.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The board is buying out Chancellor Hamid Shirvani&#8217;s contract after months of turmoil that included findings by Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STEHN&#8217;-juhm) that the board violated open meeting laws.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The next Board of Higher Education meeting is June 20 in Bottineau.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0STANLEY, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Minnesota financial group plans to build about $150 million worth of commercial and residential projects in the western North Dakota oil patch.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0 Minnetonka, Minn.-based Oppidan broke ground Wednesday for projects in Stanley and Tioga. Other projects are planned or under way in Watford City, Minot, Dickinson and Williston.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The projects will include apartments, businesses and a hotel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A member of the Grand Forks City Council has apologized for a Facebook post that offended some other members.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nCouncil members received an email Tuesday night with a screen shot of a Facebook status posted by Tyrone Grandstrand. The status was part of a campaign urging residents to contact council members to voice support for an expanded recycling program.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The status included the phrase &#8220;dead white males on the council.&#8221; Grandstrand says he copied the status from someone else and failed to see that line of text. He says he removed the post and apologized to his fellow councilmen.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But he also says some people don&#8217;t feel they&#8217;re well represented on the council on some issues, including recycling.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s congressional delegation says North Dakota is getting about $11.6 million for affordable housing projects on American Indian land in the state.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will go to tribal housing authorities in New Town, Fort Totten, Trenton and Belcourt.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Most of the money is going to the Turtle Mountain Housing Authority in Belcourt, which is getting more than $6.7 million from the Indian Housing Block Grant program.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sens. The House intelligence chairman, Mike Rogers, says it&#8217;s part of the damage from disclosures by National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden of two NSA programs that collect millions of telephone records and track Internet activity. He gave no details.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 GEISMAR, La. (AP) &#8211; State police say at least one person was killed and at least 30 were injured in an explosion and fire at a chemical plant in Louisiana. They say a hazardous material crew going through the plant in Geismar (GYS&#8217;-mahr) after\u00a0Thursday morning&#8217;s explosion found one person dead. The fire was out by late morning. Early tests did not indicate dangerous levels of any chemicals around the plant, about 20 miles southeast of Baton Rouge.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) &#8211; For three decades, the government has awarded patents on naturally-occurring human genes. But those patents have been rejected by the Supreme Court, which says those genes can&#8217;t be patented. It&#8217;s a partial defeat for a Utah company, Myriad Genetics, which held patents on two genes linked to an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer. But the court also gave the company a partial victory, ruling that synthetically-created DNA could be patented because &#8220;it is not naturally-occurring.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ISTANBUL (AP) &#8211; Turkey&#8217;s prime minister is reportedly going to meet with representatives of the protesters occupying a park in Istanbul. That word comes from the state-run news agency, hours after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan (REH&#8217;-jehp TY&#8217;-ihp UR&#8217;-doh-wahn) gave a &#8220;final warning&#8221; for the protesters to leave the park. The agency says he will meet later Thursday with eight artists and two representatives from the group that has coordinated much of the sit-in.
