\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Transportation Department says floodwaters have receded form state Highway 14 south of Towner, and traffic speeds have returned to normal.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Traffic speeds still are reduced on the highway north of Towner due to water on the shoulders.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Traffic speeds also are reduced on U.S. 83 north of Max, and on N.D. 200 both west and east of Hurdsfield.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jun 16, 2013) \u2014 A local animal rescue organization has been busy, assisting other rescue groups and performing local rescues.<\/p>\n

Praire Paws Rescue assisted other animal rescue groups as an attempt was made to bury alive nine puppies Saturday at a construction site in western North Dakota, but was unsucessful, when an individual heard the dogs\u2019 cries.<\/p>\n

Prairie Paws Rescue joined other animal rescue organizations in North Dakota and Minnesota to help the puppies, as all survived.<\/p>\n

They were taken to law enforcement in Tioga, and then to Minot.<\/p>\n

A volunteer brought them to Harvey, where Prairie Paws, Becky Johnson picked them up and brought them to Jamestown.<\/p>\n

The pups were then transported to Coco\u2019s Heart Dog Rescue in St. Paul, Minnesota, which has more resources to help care for them than doesPrairie Paws Rescue.<\/p>\n

The owner who purportedly tried to kill the puppies is expected have charges filed against him.<\/p>\n

Prairie Paws is also assisting the James River Humane Society with a Friday rescue of 28 dogs including a prenant dog and ready to deliver as of Sunday evening.<\/p>\n

The dogs were rescued from a hoarding situation in New Rockford.<\/p>\n

The JRHS got the call from law enforcement, and Prairie Paws is going to assist with evaluating the situation.<\/p>\n

Those dogs staying in the area will need foster families and will require cleaning supplies, comfort items for dogs, rawhide chews, small collars and small leashes.<\/p>\n

Donations of money is best, and individuals may sponsor a dog\u2019s shots or a medicated dip.<\/p>\n

Prepaid gas card donations are aslo a great help.<\/p>\n

Aly will represent North Dakota in The Mrs. America Pageant August 20, 2013 in Tucson, Arizona.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — June is Adopt A Cat month, as the fee to adopt a cat at the James River Humane Society in Jamestown is reduced to $95.<\/p>\n

On Friday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, President, Matt Opsahl said the regular cost is $135 to adopt a shelter cat. He said, as of Friday the shelter had 15 cats available for adoption.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the Jun 20th<\/sup> Bark For Life, Stutsman County Relay for Life fundraiser will also benefit the shelter animals, and those assisted for placement through Prairie Paws Rescue.<\/p>\n

He added that those participating in Bark For Life, may bring needed animal supplies along, for donations including such items as blankets, leashes, paper towels, dog and cat treats, Dawn dish soap, Mr. Clean, and other cleaning supplies.<\/p>\n

Bark For Life will be June 20, 2013, at Pepper\u2019s Dog Park in Southwest Jamestown from 6-p.m., to 8-p.m.<\/p>\n

Registration to benefit Relay for Life is \u2026Early Registration $10 per dog. The day of the event, $15. All dogs must be on a leash, and please be ready to clean up after your four-legged animal.<\/p>\n

\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – An airman with the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot Air Force Base died in a canoeing accident over the weekend.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Base officials say Tech Sgt. Jason Mower died Saturday when the canoe he was in overturned on Lake Metigoshe (meht-ih-GOH’-shee). Another airman in the canoe surfaced but Mower did not. His body was recovered Sunday morning.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mower had been in the Air Force for 11 years and had been stationed at the Minot base since 2010. He was originally from Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Four siblings from Grand Forks are facing felony charges for distributing methamphetamine.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The four individuals face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the state charges. Federal felony charges may soon be filed.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Law enforcement officials allege that 42-year-old Don Keplin, 31-year-old Dustin Keplin, 29-year-old Desiree Keplin and 26-year-old Doree Keplin were involved in sale of meth to confidential informants.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Don, Dustin and Doree are in Grand Forks County jail awaiting trial; Desiree bailed out.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – One of four people charged with dealing cocaine, heroin, marijuana and ecstasy in North Dakota and Minnesota has been sentenced in federal court.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Anthony Ancona pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say Ancona and others obtained the drugs in the Minneapolis area and distributed them in Fargo, Grand Forks, Williston, Moorhead, Minn., Alexandria, Minn., and Thief River Falls, Minn.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson sentenced Ancona to 10 years in prison.
\n\u00a0

\u00a0\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Belcourt man has been sentenced for separate assaults on the Turtle Mountain Reservation involving a metal bar and a sledgehammer. Twenty-five-year-old Joey Short was sentenced to nearly three years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Prosecutors say Short hit a man with a metal bar last July, and struck another man with a sledgehammer in October.<\/p>\n

\u3000\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is slated to visit the Minot Air Force Base today.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Army Gen. Martin Dempsey’s visit comes just days after an officer of the 91st Missile Wing’s operations support squadron was ousted due to a “a loss of confidence.”
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The base is the command center for 150 Minuteman III missiles and is one of two B-52 bomber bases in the country. The base has suffered a rash of nuclear-related missteps since 2007 that has cost several officers their careers.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Most recently, the base earned the equivalent of a “D” grade in a March test of its mastery of missile launch operations. That led the Air Force to strip several officers of their authority to control and launch nuclear missiles.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The director of an advocacy group says the number of homeless people is soaring in North Dakota. Michael Carbone, executive director of the North Dakota Coalition for Homeless People, says desperate job seekers are flocking to the oil-rich state to try and land one of the thousands of unfilled jobs. Volunteers counted a record 2,069 homeless people during a survey on January 23rd.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s top oil regulator says drillers faced unusually bad weather this spring. Department of Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms says in a statement that oil operators couldn’t “catch a break” in April and May. He says April had the coldest temperatures on record and May was the wettest on record. Despite the dicey weather, drillers still produced a record 793,000 barrels daily in April.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A federal judge says the Georgetown University law school did not discriminate against a former North Dakota attorney general based on his age when he was passed over for a faculty position. Nick Spaeth originally filed the lawsuit in July 2011 against the Michigan State University law school when he didn’t get an interview.\u00a0 He later expanded the suit to include five more law schools, but dropped all those complaints except the one against Georgetown.<\/p>\n

NASCAR…<\/p>\n

BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP Jun 16, 2013) \u2014 Greg Biffle raced to his second straight Sprint Cup victory at Michigan International Speedway, easily holding off Kevin Harvick after points leader Jimmie Johnson smacked the wall in the final laps Sunday.<\/p>\n

It was the 1,000th victory for Ford across NASCAR\u2019s three national series \u2013 Cup, Nationwide and Truck.<\/p>\n

It was Biffle\u2019s first win since he overtook Johnson to win at MIS in August. Johnson\u2019s engine faltered with six laps left in that race. This time, he was about a second behind Biffle with three laps to go \u2013 but a tire give way, and he dropped all the way to 28th.<\/p>\n

Harvick was second, 3 seconds behind Biffle. Martin Truex Jr. was next, followed by Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart.<\/p>\n

Johnson wasn\u2019t the only big name who ran into trouble. Jeff Gordon was out of contention almost immediately when he hit a spinning Bobby Labonte less than 10 laps into the 200-lap, 400-mile race. Gordon finished 39th, one spot behind Kasey Kahne, who led at the halfway point but appeared to blow a tire and went sliding into the wall.<\/p>\n

Kahne\u2019s car caught fire, but he was able to climb out quickly.<\/p>\n

Dale Earnhardt Jr., who won at MIS last June, finished 37th Sunday. He led for 34 laps, but his engine acted up about two-thirds of the way through the race.<\/p>\n

There were eight cautions for 38 laps.<\/p>\n

Pole winner Carl Edwards finished eighth. Kurt Busch qualified second but went into an early spin and finished 35th.<\/p>\n
