Oakes, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jun 25, 2013) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports a 37-year-old Oakes woman died Tuesday (Jun 25, 213) following an accident near the intersection of North Dakota Highways One and Eleven, two miles south of Oakes at about 9-a.m.<\/p>\n

The report says a pickup and a semi-trailer rig were involved in the accident.<\/p>\n

The report says the pickup operated by the female driver was hit on the passenger side by a northbound semi-trailer, as she was turning left into her place of business.<\/p>\n

She was not wearing a safety restraint.<\/p>\n

The driver of the semi-trailer rig was identified as 28 year old Erick Taylor of Britton, South Dakota.<\/p>\n

He was not injured.<\/p>\n

The Patrol says the name of the woman who died will be released later Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

The northbound lane of Highway One near the scene was blocked for a few hours while crews removed debris.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Abortion-rights advocates have filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging two new North Dakota laws that impose the nation’s toughest abortion restrictions.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights is representing the Red River Women’s Clinic in Fargo in the lawsuit filed Tuesday. It seeks to block a measure that would ban abortions as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, when a fetal heartbeat can first be detected. The lawsuit also is challenging another new law that would prohibit women from having an abortion because a fetus has a genetic defect, such as Down syndrome.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In an email sent to NDSU students on Tuesday, President Dean Bresciani says the school has been unable to verify that emails were deleted. He says it also remains unclear when the emails were deleted, if it did occur.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Legislative Council contends he deleted the emails and is asking Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STEHN’-juhm) to determine whether Bresciani broke any laws.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STEHN’-juhm) says a nonprofit arm of the North Dakota University System broke the law by denying a copy of its revenues and expenditures.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In a written opinion Tuesday, Stenehjem says the North Dakota University System Foundation is subject to the state’s open records law and must disclose its records.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The group had argued that it was not subject to the state’s open records law because it is not a public entity as defined under state law. The group says it is a private, nonprofit foundation funded by private contributions.

MEDORA, N.D. (AP) – The Painted Canyon Scenic Overlook in the southwestern North Dakota Badlands will remain open through the end of October.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Civil rights activists are denouncing Tuesday’s Supreme Court ruling that keeps the federal government from using what has been its most powerful tool against discrimination at the ballot box. The head of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Sherrilyn Ifill, calls it “a step backwards in the march towards equal rights.” The court Tuesday rejected a provision of the Voting Rights Act that requires some states and localities to get federal approval before changing voting laws. The five-to-four decision said the law no longer reflects progress that’s been made in the nation since it was enacted a half century ago.

And it’s asking the Russians to do so without delay. A National Security Council spokeswoman says even without an extradition treaty, Russia should expel him to face espionage charges in the United States. The statement came hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin bluntly rejected the request for extradition and said Snowden is free to travel wherever he wants.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama says carbon pollution limits need to be set on U.S. power plants in order to curb global warming. He says rules are already in place to limit pollution from arsenic, mercury, lead and other substances, but no federal limits exist on how much carbon pollution that power plants – including many that are fired by coal – can dump into the air. Obama made his remarks Tuesday in a speech at Georgetown University, where he announced measures he intends to take to limit pollution that is trapping gases in the atmosphere.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WASHINGTON (AP) – As President Barack Obama sees it, the proposed Keystone XL pipeline project from Canada to Texas should only be approved if it doesn’t worsen carbon pollution. Obama says allowing the oil pipeline to be built requires a finding that doing so is in the nation’s interest. He says that means determining that the pipeline does not significantly worsen emissions. Environmental activists have demanded that the administration not approve the pipeline, which would carry oil from Canadian tar sands to the Texas Gulf Coast.
