News Jun 28, 2013) &#8212; An explosion Thursday evening about 6-p.m. (Jun 27, 2013) destroyed a storage bunker containing the fireworks for the Sanborn Fire Department\u2019s Fourth of July celebration.<\/p>\n<p>No injuries were reported, and the estimate of destroyed fireworks was put at about $3,000.<\/p>\n<p>No other structures were damaged, as the bunker was located a few hundred yards for a rural farm, southwest of Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The fire department is also considering its options for the Fourth of July display, according to Mike Griffin, member of the Sanborn Fire Department.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jun 28, 2013) &#8212; The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continue to maintain the releases from Jamestown and Pipestem Dams.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday Bob Martin in Jamestown said, the plan is to keep the Jamestown Dam release at 700 cfs, and the Pipestem Dam release at 200 cfs for a combined release of 900 cfs for the next two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>He said the release is being maintained because of high James River levels south of Jamestown, and into South Dakota, stemming from recent significant rain events that have added to the river levels.<\/p>\n<p>He added, the Jamestown and Pipestem Reservoirs are slowly dropping, even after the releases were reduced last week.<\/p>\n<p>The Corps in Omaha has reported that James River basin conditions and forecasts will be continuously evaluated and adjustments to the releases will be made as needed due to future rainfall and reservoir inflows.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Jamestown, ND, (KCSi-T.V. News June 28, 2013) &#8212; As a benefit to the community, Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) has coordinated with the 7<sup>th<\/sup> District Medical Society of North Dakota and Healthcare Environmental Services to have a community sharps drop-off location on the campus of JRMC. This is a service the community of Jamestown has not previously had and will be the first community sharps disposal kiosk available in the state of North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>Sharps disposed at the community drop-off kiosk must be packaged in a tightly capped plastic container two liters or less in size, most soda, sports drink and juice bottle less than two liters should fit easily in the deposit drawer. Materials allowed in the sharps kiosk include used needles, testing devices such as lancets, and other medical supplies that would be considered sharps (device or object used to puncture or lacerate the skin). Materials not allowed in the drop-off containers include garbage, chemicals or medications.<\/p>\n<p>The drop-off kiosk is located just off the road on the south side of the main building on the JRMC campus. The kiosk is a black mailbox style container. (AP) &#8211; Bismarck police say they have arrested a second suspect in the apparent slaying of a man who had recently moved to the city from Sioux Falls, S.D.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 20-year-old Stanley man was arrested Thursday on a murder charge. Formal charges were pending on Friday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities already have charged 25-year-old Theo Crowe with murder in the apparent death of 18-year-old John Swain, who was last seen in mid-May.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say a body was found Wednesday at a home in Poplar, Mont., owned by Crowe&#8217;s grandmother. An autopsy is being conducted to determine whether it is Swain.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Crowe does not yet have a listed attorney.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Two executives from a defunct Arizona mortgage lender have been sentenced to federal prison on charges they swindled Bismarck-based BNC National Bank out of at least $26 million.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Scott Powers and David McMaster pleaded guilty earlier to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and wire fraud. Powers was the CEO of American Mortgage Specialists Inc., or AMS, and McMaster was the company&#8217;s vice president in charge of lending operations.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland on Friday sentenced McMaster to more than 15 years in prison and Powers to eight years behind bars. Powers was given credit for cooperating with authorities.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The plea agreements call for Powers and McMaster to forfeit $28.5 million, which includes proceeds from the fraud.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Attorneys for the two defendants were not immediately available for comment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MANDAN, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A bone marrow donor drive is being held in Mandan early next month to help a 9-month-old boy.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nLane Henderson has severe combined immunodeficiency disorder, meaning he essentially has no working immune system. He&#8217;s been in a protected, sterile environment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., since May because his body cannot protect against disease.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The boy&#8217;s mother, Karmen Henderson, has been staying with Lane in Rochester. Father Austin Henderson continues to work as a rancher in Solen but visits often.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The most common way to treat the disorder is through a bone marrow transplant, although the family has yet to find a donor match.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The drive is planned for July 7 at noon at the Spirit of Life Church in Mandan.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota farmers have planted significantly fewer acres of Durum and winter wheat.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Agriculture Department&#8217;s June acreage report estimates North Dakota Durum acres at 850,000, down 37 percent over the year. Durum is used for pasta. The state&#8217;s winter wheat acres are estimated at 350,000, a 53 percent drop from last year.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Acres of the state&#8217;s staple spring wheat crop have dropped 1 percent from 2012, to 5.7 million.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota soybean acres are estimated at 4.4 million, down 7 percent from last year&#8217;s record crop. The state&#8217;s record corn crop is 3.9 million acres, up 8 percent. (AP) &#8211; Four finalists have been named for two new judgeships being created in North Dakota&#8217;s Northwest Judicial District.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Supreme Court says all four are lawyers: Cherie Clark of Fargo, Paul Jacobson of Bismarck; Robert Martin of Minot; and Robin Schmidt of Watford City.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov. Jack Dalrymple will appoint the new judges. One will be based in Williston and the other in Watford City.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Legislature approved the new judgeships earlier this year to help with an increasing caseload in the booming western North Dakota oil patch. (AP) &#8211; Fargo&#8217;s longest serving police service dog is retiring.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Nitro will begin his last shift on Saturday after 10 years of service to the city.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say he has assisted the department in numerous criminal arrests by tracking criminal suspects or finding illegal narcotics. He&#8217;s also made several appearances and public demonstrations throughout the community at in schools.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Nitro&#8217;s handler, Officer Richard Nechiporenko, will care for the dog during his retirement. Nechiporenko has been a handler for about 23 years is also leaving the canine unit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In world and national news&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>CENTURION, South Africa (AP) &#8211; President Barack Obama is in South Africa, starting the second leg of his three-country African journey. The visit comes as former South African president and anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela is ailing in a Johannesburg hospital. Obama said Friday he wasn&#8217;t certain whether he&#8217;d be able to see Mandela during his visit.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 SOUTH FORK, Colo. (AP) &#8211; Residents and visitors are being allowed back to the southwestern Colorado town of South Fork, a week after they were forced to evacuate by a massive wildfire. The evacuation was lifted Friday since firefighters feel confident they could defend the summer retreat should the fire again advance toward it. They&#8217;ve dug a wide bulldozer line they can expand if that happens and have also been dropping water along the highway leading to the town all week. The town relies on tourism during so business owners there have been anxious to reopen.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) &#8211; Massachusetts State Police say a man who&#8217;d been sought in connection with the murder case against former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been arrested in Florida. State police say local officers captured Ernest Wallace Friday in Miramar. Hernandez is charged with murder in the slaying of Odin Lloyd near Hernandez&#8217;s home in North Attleborough, Mass. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail. A third man arrested in Bristol, Conn., in the case is being sent to Massachusetts.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 OMAHA, Neb. (AP) &#8211; A federal appeals court is upholding an ordinance from an eastern Nebraska city that bans employing or renting property to people who aren&#8217;t in the country legally. The ruling clears the way for the city of Fremont to start enforcing the law, which was approved by voters three years ago. Last year, a federal judge had ruled that the part of the ordinance denying housing permits to those who aren&#8217;t in the country legally was discriminatory, and interfered with federal law. But the appeals panel is rejecting that view.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 SANFORD, Fla. (AP) &#8211; A neighbor has been describing how George Zimmerman looked and what he said in the minutes after he fatally shot Trayvon Martin last year. Testifying Friday at Zimmerman&#8217;s murder trial, Jonathan Manolo said he stepped outside after hearing a gunshot and saw Zimmerman, who didn&#8217;t appear shocked and was acting calmly.
