Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 10, 2013) —\u00a0 At a special meeting Tuesday evening, (Jul 9, 2013) at \u00a0the All Vets Club, in Jamestown, \u00a0no “concrete” suggestions were offered to keep the Club open.<\/p>\n

The meeting was called by Vets Club Chairman, LeRoy Wegenast.<\/p>\n

He says, about 75 individuals attended Tuesday\u2019s meeting, which included members of local veterans organization and auxiliaries, along with Vets Club employees, and patrons, and community members.<\/p>\n

Wegenast said he was disappointed that no definitive suggestions were made by those in attendance, that would keep the financially struggling club open.<\/p>\n

A suggestion was made to borrow money to keep the club open.<\/p>\n

He added that at the meeting donations were taken, but were little more than a “band-aid,” of what is need to keep the club open.<\/p>\n

He said a possible option to inject finances into the operation could be establishing a capital campaign.<\/p>\n

He said the Vets Club Board will meet informally to discuss the club\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

If a decision is made to close, the closure will be immediately.<\/p>\n

He said the next formal board meeting is in October this year, but the club will not able to stay open until that time, given the present financial circumstances if the board would decide at that time to have a fundraiser.<\/p>\n

The Club\u2019s financial shortfall has been about $2,500 per month.<\/p>\n

Wegenast pointed out that two people have applied for the vacant manager\u2019s position.<\/p>\n

A search this spring for a paid manager was unsuccessful with no applications received.<\/p>\n

The club had been managed on a volunteer basis by Carol Martin.<\/p>\n

The All Vets Club employs two people full time and about 11 part-time workers.<\/p>\n

North Dakota law requires counties to furnish veteran\u2019s groups with a meeting place, but not a bar or restaurant.<\/p>\n

The building is owned by Stutsman County and All Vets Club owns the bar fixtures and restaurant equipment.<\/p>\n

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News (Jul 9, 2013) \u2013Valley City police has arrested a convicted sex offender after he provide police with false information about his living address on Monday.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week Valley City Police informed the public of a registered high risk sex offender living in the city,<\/p>\n

Allan Joseph Cook who registered with police as residing at 305 4th Street Southeast in Valley City.<\/p>\n

Cook was convicted in February of 2002 of two Class “C” Felony counts of sexual assault. The incidents involved two 15-year-old girls, in separate incidents.<\/p>\n

The North Dakota Attorney General\u2019s Office has more information.<\/p>\n

Anyone with questions may call the Valley City Police Department, at 845-3110.<\/p>\n

Valley City, ND (KCSi- T.V. News) — Administrators at Mercy Hospital in Valley City and four doctors are looking to reach an agreement on emergency room services before the the end of this month.<\/p>\n

If an agreement is not reached patients of those doctors requiring hospitalization would beunable to get treatment from their primary doctors at Mercy Hospital.<\/p>\n

Doctors, Misty Anderson, Genevieve Govan, Dave Hochhalter and James Buhr, who are physicians at Sanford Health Valley City, submitted letters resigning their privileges at Mercy Hospital on June 24, 2013.<\/p>\n

Unless the doctors recind their resignations, they becom effecitve August 1, 2013.<\/p>\n

The resignations do not include Doctor Tanya Diegle, a physician at Essentia Clinic in Valley City.<\/p>\n

If the resignations take effect, the Sanford Clinic doctors would no longer have the right or privilege to admit patients to the hospital or provide care for those hospitalized patients.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi – T.V. News Jul 10, 2013) — The Jamestown Rural Fire Department and Interstate Engineering are working together to keep access to the rural fire hall, during the upcoming sanitary sewer project.<\/p>\n

The plan now is for half of the firehouse to be blocked during construction.<\/p>\n

If the plan works, storage space elsewhere will not be needed.<\/p>\n

The rural fire department continues to work with individuals who have volunteered space as a “plan B.”<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 9, 2013) — The 116th<\/sup> Annual Stutsman County Fair opens today (Jul 10,2013) and runs through Saturday the 13th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday the fair officially opens with 4-H exhibits in the morning, and the midway opens at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

4-H activities include static exhibits gardening, foods, clothing, arts and crafts and science projects.<\/p>\n

Other 4-H exhibits include poultry, rabbits, livestock, the 4th annual archery shoot on Saturday, open to kids from all over North Dakota, with 80 participants.<\/p>\n

The Prairie Pals 4-H Club\u2019s Food Pantry Drive, is collecting non-perishable food items each day of the fair from 10-a.m. to 10-p.m., with items dropped off at the Russ Melland Building, with their community project.<\/p>\n

The midway offers the Mighty Thomas Carnival rides, food vendors and pony rides.<\/p>\n

Live music at every night, includes Third Gear on Wednesday, the Johnny Holm Band on Thursday, Tripwire on Friday night, and Saturday it\u2019s Boomtown.<\/p>\n

A new feature is the Young Guns Wild West Fun Park, sponsored by Jamestown Implement.<\/p>\n

On Thursday the Chef\u2019s Challenge, is at 5 p.m. Thursday, sponsored by the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, with contestants cooking a meal to be judged in the areas of taste, presence and use of fresh ingredients.<\/p>\n

Free pony rides, are offered Wednesday through Friday.<\/p>\n

Thursday is Pepsi Day. Bring a Pepsi product, empty can, bottle, or paper logo and receive a $3 discount off the regular price of a wristband purchase price, or 30 coupon sheet.<\/p>\n

The Jamestown River Rodeo is at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, at he Fairgrounds north entrance.<\/p>\n

Saturday is Dollar Day, with special ride tickets for $1 each. (admission one special ticket for one ride\u2026must buy tickets before 5-p.m. and can be used all day.)<\/p>\n

The Don Wilhelm Stock Car Classic is at Jamestown Speedway on the fairgrounds Saturday at 6-p.m.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Cass County hasn’t maintained the oversight mandated by the state to ensure carnival rides at the Red River Valley Fair have been properly inspected. But fair and county officials say there’s no reason to think any of the rides at this year’s fair are unsafe, because the company running them inspects every ride before opening each day. Murphy Brothers Exposition spokeswoman Cathy Murphy\u00a0says \u00a0the inspection papers are available but no one has ever asked for them. Fair General Manager Bryan Schulz says the question of oversight won’t disrupt this year’s fair but will need to be addressed after it concludes.

Proceeds from the garden tour support the AAUW Educational Foundation, The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund and the AAUW Endowment Fund at Jamestown College.<\/p>\n

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Jul 9, 2013) — The Valley City\/Barnes County Development Corporation has approved an outlay of $50,000 to establish a movie theater in Valley City.<\/p>\n

Director Jennifer Feist says, “A movie theater is one of the critical core businesses a community really must have to be seen as a viable community similar to a recreational swimming pool and other amenities.<\/p>\n

A number of parties have expressed interest, however, the investment is significant.<\/p>\n

By making this contribution, the Corporation is optimistic one or more parties will step forward. The challenge will be twofold a) construction and b) operations. Our goal is to have a solid plan in place including private investments yet this year.”<\/p>\n

She adds, the $50,000 community investment reinforces the Development Corporation\u2019s commitment to growing the community.<\/p>\n

She points out that funds can be used for any related project investments including leveraging the Bank of North Dakota\u2019s Flex PACE Program, an interest reduction program.<\/p>\n

The Bank of North Dakota will provide a maximum of $100,000 as a grant under Flex PACE.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Police in Fargo says a 46-year-old woman is facing charges in a stabbing incident.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lt. Joel Vettel\u00a0says \u00a0officers responded about 9:30 p.m. Monday to a report of two women who were walking covered in blood.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Officers found the women and determined that one of them had suffered stab wounds to her torso and slash wounds to her arms. She was treated for injuries at a local hospital.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The other woman was taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest. Formal charges were pending.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vettel said both women were extremely intoxicated and it was difficult for officers to determine what had led to the stabbing.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) – The Walsh County Sheriff’s Office says a 19-year-old man reported being attacked by a pack of about eight dogs as he was walking east of a farm. The sheriff’s office says the man was knocked down and severely bitten all over his body by a large Rottweiler, a pit bull and several other dogs. The sheriff’s office says after a veterinarian euthanized four of the dogs, the 59-year-old owner slit one of his dogs’ throats and refused to give up the others. He was arrested on a charge of physical obstruction of a government function.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Federal workplace safety regulators are investigating the deaths of two men in Mountrail County. The sheriff says the men were working on a cellphone tower when they fell 250 feet. One man was from Tennessee, and the other was from Georgia.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A Bismarck-based North Dakota Army National Guard unit has been told it may mobilize in early 2014.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If the nearly 40 soldiers of Company C, 2nd Battalion, 285th Aviation Regiment head overseas, they’d serve in support of the NATO-led international peacekeeping mission in Kosovo for up to one year.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The unit previously deployed in 2009 to Iraq, where the unit’s aviators flew more than 750 combat missions. They were responsible for transporting senior officials, soldiers, medical supplies and other cargo.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota adjutant general Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk (sprihn-suh-NAT’-ihk) says the aviators offer a level of professionalism and expertise.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wilz is the first woman in the history of the North Dakota Army National Guard to rise from enlisted soldier to the rank of colonel.\u00a0 She commands the Fargo-based 141st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wilz joined the Guard in 1983.

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Officials have banded three peregrine falcon chicks in Grand Forks.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The chicks were taken from a nest atop the University of North Dakota water tower Monday and banded so they can be tracked. It’s part of a larger effort to restore peregrines in the Midwest.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The banding has been an annual event since 2008. That’s when Terminator, a peregrine hatched in 2005 in Brandon, Manitoba, produced her first chick in Grand Forks. Her partner in 2008 was a male named Bear. She raised broods with new partner Roosevelt from 2009-2012.

They made the announcement late Tuesday, after the NBA’s moratorium was lifted.\u00a0Besides adding Dunleavy, the Bulls are retaining veteran center Nazr Mohammed. He announced on Twitter last week that he would re-sign with Chicago. The Bulls are also expected to buy out veteran guard Richard Hamilton.<\/p>\n

\u00a0DALLAS (AP) – Former Timberwolf, Wayne Ellington has become the third guard to join the Dallas Mavericks in free agency.

BOSTON (AP) – The surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing will be arraigned in federal court in Boston today. Dzokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR’ tsahr-NEYE’-ehv) is charged with using a weapon of mass destruction in the blast that killed three people and wounded more than 260. Victims’ families can view the proceedings in the main courtroom. The hearing is to be broadcast in an overflow courtroom for reporters.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 LAC-MEGANTIC, Quebec (AP) – Quebec investigators fear three dozen more bodies are buried in the downtown area closest to the tracks where a runaway oil train ignited an inferno. The death toll rose to 15 with the discovery of two more bodies yesterday. The bodies that have been recovered were burned so badly they have yet to be identified. Terrorism has been ruled out as a cause of the explosion, but criminal negligence and tampering have not.
