News Jul 17, 2013) &#8212; The Buffalo City Tourism Grant\/Executive Advisory Board, Wednesday approved allocating $5,000 to the Frontier Village to expend to help bring the World Fast Draw Association Shootout to Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Representing the Frontier Village at the meeting were Charlie Tanata, and Colleen Conley.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event is coming to the Frontier Village amphitheater August 9, 10, &amp; 11, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Conley said the total budget is $7,000 with the $5,000 to be paid to the WFDA for $2,970 in prize money and for trophies and the sanction fee.<\/p>\n<p>There is a participation fee, however, there will be free admission.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be evaluated by the number of participants and Village visitors and a random survey, with the information to determine the success of the event, and possible annual WDFA matches in Jamestown in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Co-sponsors of the event also includes the Quality Inn &amp; Suites, Buffalo Inn, and Seekins\u2019 Motel.<\/p>\n<p>An advertising plan is in place to publicize the event.<\/p>\n<p>Numerous events are planned including a local celebrity event, along with participants from around the country who are in competition with each other with accumulated point totals, from the events.<\/p>\n<p>Single action revolvers are used, with wax bullets or blanks used, in the timed events.<\/p>\n<p>In other business, the board heard a presentation from Wayne Deery of Newman Signs for a new billboard contract for 2014. Deery said a total to 10 billboards will continue, with 7 paid for, over 36 months, at a cost of $2,930 per month.<\/p>\n<p>Buffalo City Tourism Director Searle Swedlund said the item is in the upcoming budget, which is awaiting approval.<\/p>\n<p>The billboards are located along I-94 near Valley City West Fargo, west of Mapleton, and Steele. Also on Higway 281 near Ellendale, and Carrington, and Highways 5 and 3 near Dunseith.<\/p>\n<p>The board also approved spending up to $1,000 on a locomotive train cars, and a caboose, a replica, which was built several years ago in Jamestown which is powered by a six cylinder car engineer.<\/p>\n<p>The train has been stored at Bonanzaville and is in need of restoration.<\/p>\n<p>An outside party will bid on the item on an on-line auction which ends Wednesday at 5-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Issues concerning the purchase included the restoration and storage, along with trailering to Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>The late Jim Carlascio of Jamestown and other B-N employees were responsible for the building of the train, which was later donated to Bonanzaville, where it has sat idle the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>It was suggested that the restored train could be used in parades and on display at locations in Jamestown to point to Jamestown\u2019s railroad heritage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &#8211; Xcel Energy says it plans to make a significant investment in wind power.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Minneapolis utility says it will use power from three large wind farms in North Dakota and Minnesota. It will be Xcel&#8217;s single largest increase in wind generation in the Upper Midwest and will boost its wind capacity by 33 percent.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Star Tribune says the utility plans to buy power from two wind farms near Jamestown, N.D. and Windom, Minn., which are being developed by Geronimo Energy of Edina. Xcel will also buy a wind farm planned by RES Americas Development near Austin. Financial terms were not disclosed.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Xcel is seeking approval from Minnesota and North Dakota regulators to acquire the wind energy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ALEXANDER, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The McKenzie County Sheriff&#8217;s Department says five men have been injured in an oilfield explosion near Alexander.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The\u00a0 workers were believed to be removing a cover on an oil fuel tank just before 9 a.m. Tuesday when a fire was ignited by an electric drill.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The sheriff&#8217;s office identified the burn victims as 54-year-old Mike Fowler, 20-year-old Frank Laverty, 27-year-old Daniel Smith, 22-year-old Stervon Joseph-Jenoir and 54-year-old Roger Kansa.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The sheriff&#8217;s office says all are employed by Trustlan Oilfield Services in New Town. (AP) &#8211; A fourth person has agreed to plead guilty in the heroin overdose death of a Fargo blues guitarist.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Emily Lund is charged is charged in federal court with conspiracy to possess and distribute a controlled substance resulting in the June 2012 death of 30-year-old Cody Conner.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Four other people are charged in the case, three of whom have pleaded guilty.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lund faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. Sentencing is set for Oct. 2.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; An Oklahoma company is still cleaning up a massive saltwater spill that happened nearly eight years ago in northwestern North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities estimate a million gallons of saltwater leaked when an underground pipe broke near Alexander in January 2006. Garcia is being held without bond on suspicion of involvement in the killings of three adults and an 11-year-old boy.
