M. Hanson Elementary School in Harvey. He was chosen from among four finalists for the honor.<\/p>\n<p>Dockter says when the call came that he was the winner, he couldn\u2019t believe it. But he says teaching is a rewarding profession.<\/p>\n<p>Dockter says the last 18 months has been challenging to him and to his colleagues. And he says he hopes to never go back to the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when classrooms were empty and students were learning online.<\/p>\n<p>Dockter says the pandemic did teach him to make every da<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-229421\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Nielson-Matt.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Nielson-Matt.jpg 180w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Nielson-Matt-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Nielson-Matt-175x175.jpg 175w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/>y count.<\/p>\n<p>The other finalists for Teacher of the Year were Heather Ell, first grade teacher at John Hoeven Elementary in Minot; Shari Jerde, a teacher at Grand Forks Community High School;<\/p>\n<p>&lt;and <strong>Matthew Nielsen, a science teacher at Valley City High School.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bismarck (Prairie Public Radio CSi Cable 77 Audio) \u2013 Bret Dockter has been named the 2021 North Dakota Teacher of the Year.
