VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP Aug 18, 2012) Water restrictions were lifted for Valley City residents.<\/p>\n

Officials say Valley City is no longer pumping raw sewage into the Sheyenne River after a master lift station plug was broken during maintenance.<\/p>\n

The sewage flow into the river was halted late Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n

City officials say the master lift station holds all of the city\u2019s sewage and pumps it into the sewage lagoon.<\/p>\n

\u00a0During routine maintenance the plug to the master lift drain failed and inundated the station.<\/p>\n

Officials estimate sewage was pumped into the river for about 30 hours before the problem was fixed on Friday.<\/p>\n

Valley City Mayor Bob Werkhoven says the cause of the master lift station break-down is a major concern and will be investigated.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Something in the system failed and it shouldn\u2019t happen again.<\/p>\n

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Aug 17, 2012) — Valley City officials hope to have repairs completed to the city\u2019s Master Sewage Lift station by Saturday. (Aug 18, 2012).<\/p>\n

However Valley City residents on Friday are still be asked limit water usage until the repairs are made.<\/p>\n

Mayor Bob Werkhoven says residents downstream should not use the Sheyenne River being raw sewage is being pumped into it.<\/p>\n

Residents are being asked to limit showering, doing laundry and flushing toilets until further notice.<\/p>\n

The water is safe to drink.<\/span><\/p>\n

An equipment failure at the master lift station occurred shortly midnight, Thursday, during maintenance, filling up the lift station with close to 30 feet of sewage.<\/p>\n

A backup system was put on line within just a couple hours.<\/p>\n
