News Aug 16, 2012)\u00a0 Valley City\u00a0officials are\u00a0 ordering Valley City residents to limit water usage until further notice, while repairs are being made to the Master Sewage Lift Station.<\/p>\n<p>Water is safe for drinking.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Bob Werkhoven\u00a0 urges residents to refrain from using water for such purposes as showering, laundry, dish washing and flushing of toilets until further notice.<\/p>\n<p>He says\u00a0 residents downstream should not use the Sheyenne River,\u00a0as the\u00a0raw sewage is being pumped into the river, through a temporary pipe.<\/p>\n<p>Valley City officials\u00a0\u00a0are estimating the repair should completed by Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0An equipment failure at\u00a0the master lift station occurred shortly midnight, Thursday, during maintenance, \u00a0filling up the lift station with\u00a0close to\u00a030 feet of\u00a0 sewage.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0A backup system was put\u00a0on line within just a couple hours.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2411\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/mottinger.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2411\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2411\" title=\"mottinger\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/mottinger-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2411\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steven Mottinger<\/p><\/div>\n<p>JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP&amp; KCSi-T.V. News Aug 16, 2012) \u2013 A witness testifying in the case of a Jamestown man accused of killing a Somali immigrant says the woman allegedly tried to dispose the body in his well.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty-four-year-old Leron Howard is charged with murder and criminal conspiracy in the death of 18-year-old Abdi Ali Ahmed.<\/p>\n<p>His body was found in a ditch near Spiritwood on April 30, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say he was beaten and stabbed.<\/p>\n<p>Delmonte Jones testified Thursday that Howard and 22-year-old Janelle Cave came to his home early in the morning of April 30, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Jones says the two asked about Jones\u2019 well, saying they had a body to dispose of.<\/p>\n<p>Jones said he did not believe them and sent them away.<\/p>\n<p>Jones was also questioned by court-appointed defense attorney, Steven Mottinger about selling marijuana to Howard and Cave, to which he replied, &#8220;no.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mottinger also asked Jones about a trip he, Howard and other individuals took to Montana and if marijuana was purchased.<\/p>\n<p>Jones replied by saying the group went to buy shoes and clothes in Montana, but he could not recall the name of the city or the mall where they shopped.<\/p>\n<p>A jury earlier convicted Cave on manslaughter and criminal conspiracy charges.<\/p>\n<p>She is serving an 11-year sentence, which is being appealed in the North Dakota Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>As part of her sentence, Cave must testify in Howard\u2019s trial.<\/p>\n<p>Howard\u2019s trial is continuing in Southeast District Court in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities are investigating the cause<br \/>\nof a house fire that killed a retired Grand Forks attorney.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Neighbors say 86-year-old Fred Arnason lived alone in the home,<br \/>\nand relied on an oxygen tank to help him breathe.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state fire marshal says the fire started Tuesday night in<br \/>\nArnason&#8217;s kitchen.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Arnason was an assistant Grand Forks county prosecutor in Grand<br \/>\nForks before he started a private law practice.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota state Bar Association recognized Arnason this<br \/>\nyear as a 60-year member of the lawyers&#8217; group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A North Dakota man sentenced to life in prison for his role in a drug ring is suing his public defender for $5 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Marcus Royston claims that defense attorney Steven Mottinger, of Fargo, did a poor job of representing him and has filed a legal malpractice suit in federal court.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Mottinger says Royston&#8217;s complaint is frivolous and should be dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Royston was among eight people accused of distributing crack cocaine in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson said during sentencing that some of the evidence against Royston didn&#8217;t make sense, but had no choice but to hand down the mandatory life term.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Mottinger had argued that the life sentence was unfair because the accused ringleader in the case received 45 years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s Health Department is<br \/>\nreporting a small surge in the number of reported cases of the West<br \/>\nNile virus.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The agency says 13 new human cases of the virus have been<br \/>\nidentified since the first one of the year was reported last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Five of the people who have been infected were put into the<br \/>\nhospital.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The virus is carried by mosquitoes.<\/p>\n<p>The Health Department&#8217;s Michelle Feist (FYST) says the West Nile virus has been relatively quiet for the last five years.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But she says the dry and hot conditions that have prevailed this<br \/>\nsummer are good for the type of mosquito that carries the illness.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Health officials say people who are outdoors between dusk and<br \/>\ndawn should wear mosquito repellent and long-sleeved shirts and<br \/>\npants.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. It has interests in energy, mining, construction and electric and gas utility service.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The company says David Goodin will succeed Hildestad in January. Goodin is president and chief executive officer of MDU Resources&#8217; four utility businesses.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hildestad began his career with the company in 1974. He was named president and CEO in 2006.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 MDU has operations in 44 states.
