Valley City\u00a0 (Barnes County) First responders had to help a man yelling for help on Lake Ashtabula near the Crossing on December 14th at approximately 8:21 A.M.<\/p>\n

On<\/span> 12\/14\/<\/span>2021<\/span> at approximately<\/span> 8:21<\/span> A.M.<\/span> this morning<\/span> Barnes County Sheriff’s<\/span> Deputies<\/span> along with <\/span>a<\/span> Corp of Engineer Ranger<\/span>,<\/span> Dazey Fi<\/span>re Department\/First Responders<\/span> and the Barnes County <\/span>Ambulance Service responded to<\/span> a report of a person on the ice yelling for help at<\/span> the Ashtabula\u00a0<\/span>Crossing<\/span> on Lake Ashtabula<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Upon arrival a Corp of Engineer Ranger and<\/span> Sheriff’s<\/span> Deputies saw<\/span> a local Barnes County man about <\/span>100 yards from shore sitting on the ice wearing a t<\/span>–<\/span>shirt, blue<\/span> jeans,<\/span> and<\/span> no shoes.<\/span> The Corp of <\/span>Engineers Ranger and Sheriff’s Deputies with the aid of safe<\/span>ty equipment retrieved<\/span> the male<\/span> off the <\/span>ice.<\/span> This individual<\/span> was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Valley<\/span> City<\/span> for<\/span> non<\/span>–<\/span>life<\/span>– <\/span>threatening<\/span> injuries<\/span> he<\/span> sustained from the incident.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n This male individual<\/span> told Sheriff’s Deputies and responders<\/span> on the<\/span> scene<\/span> he was sleep walking. A <\/span>female friend<\/span>, who lives with<\/span> him<\/span> told<\/span> Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin<\/span> he<\/span> had left<\/span> his<\/span> residence <\/span>about 6 A.M. that morning.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Sheriff McClaflin would like to remind everyone<\/span> to please stay alert to ice conditions on loca<\/span>l lakes <\/span>and use caution when<\/span> going onto it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Valley City\u00a0 (Barnes County) First responders had to help a man yelling for help on Lake Ashtabula near the Crossing on December 14th at approximately 8:21 A.M.
