News Aug 17, 2012) &#8212; Valley City officials hope to have repairs completed to the city\u2019s Master Sewage Lift station by Saturday. (Aug 18, 2012).<\/p>\n<p>However Valley City residents on Friday are still be asked limit water usage until the repairs are made.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Bob Werkhoven says residents downstream should not use the Sheyenne River being raw sewage is being pumped into it.<\/p>\n<p>Residents are being asked to limit showering, doing laundry and flushing toilets until further notice.<\/p>\n<p>The water is safe to drink.<\/p>\n<p>An equipment failure at the master lift station occurred shortly midnight, Thursday, during maintenance, filling up the lift station with close to 30 feet of sewage.<\/p>\n<p>A backup system was put on line within just a couple hours.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0MINOT, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Authorities say a man&#8217;s body has been<br \/>\nrecovered from the Souris River in Minot.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the body was pulled from the river near the Broadway<br \/>\nviaduct early Thursday afternoon.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say the body was taken to a Minot hospital for autopsy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Former University of North Dakota<br \/>\nbasketball star Jerome Beasley has been released from jail in a<br \/>\ndispute over unpaid child support.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A judge ruled the 32-year-old Beasley wasn&#8217;t told about his<br \/>\nrights in the case.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Beasley was put in the Grand Forks County jail July 26 for<br \/>\nallegedly not trying hard enough to pay his debts.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota child support enforcement records say Beasley owes<br \/>\nmore than $204,000 in spousal support to his former wife and child<br \/>\nsupport for the couple&#8217;s two children.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Beasley played two years at UND, averaging 24 points and eight<br \/>\nrebounds a game.<\/p>\n<p>He was drafted by the Miami Heat in 2003 and released two years later.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Beasley has played professionally with teams in Australia, Israel, France<br \/>\nand Cyprus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; About 160 North Dakota National Guard soldiers who served a year in the Middle East are in the back in the state.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gov. Jack Dalrymple says the members of the Wahpeton-based 188th Engineer Company arrived in Fargo on Friday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The soldiers are from nearly 70 communities across North Dakota and into Minnesota. They deployed to Kuwait last August.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The military says the soldiers completed numerous construction projects ranging from small repairs to major renovations and building construction.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s top oil regulator says the state&#8217;s booming oil patch has about 35,000 wells yet to be drilled and companies increasingly are making inroads with speedier but more costly technology.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State Department of Mineral Resources director Lynn Helms says drillers are finishing wells at a rate of eight daily.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s up from about one a day just five years ago<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But Helms says the advanced technology has come at a cost. He says a well costs about $10 million to complete. Kent Conrad plans to donate his Senate papers to George Washington University in Washington, D.C.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Conrad is an alumnus of the school. He earned a master&#8217;s degree in business administration at George Washington in 1975.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Conrad and university President Steven Knapp are holding a news conference in Bismarck on Tuesday to announce the donation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Under the terms of the gift, North Dakotans will have access to the papers through the state Historical Society.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Conrad was first elected to the Senate in 1986. (AP) &#8211; Dirt moving work on a new Bowman airport is<br \/>\nlikely to begin next month.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Bowman Airport Authority has accepted a bid of about $3<br \/>\nmillion to do the job. Once the earth moving is finished, the rest<br \/>\nof the job will be put out for bids.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The new airport is expected to cost up to $12 million, and the<br \/>\nfederal government is paying most of the cost. It&#8217;s supposed to be<br \/>\nfinished in 2014.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bowman airport manager Brent Kline says the new facility will<br \/>\nhave a longer runway to handle private jet traffic from oil<br \/>\ncompanies.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It will be located about four miles east of Bowman, south of<br \/>\nU.S. Highway 12. Harald Sunde toured the base&#8217;s 5th Bomb Wing and the 91st<br \/>\nMissile Wing on Wednesday. Sunde is Norway&#8217;s chief of defense.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A Minot base spokesman says the tour was to strengthen the<br \/>\nrelationship between Norway&#8217;s Chief of Defense and the American<br \/>\nDefense Department.<\/p>\n<p>The Minot base is equipped with B-52 bombers and Minuteman III<br \/>\nnuclear missiles.<\/p>\n<p>The Minot spokesman says Sunde expressed his appreciation for the &#8220;strategic deterrence&#8221; that the base provides.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0world and national news&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>MARIKANA, South Africa (AP) &#8211; Some miners in South Africa are<br \/>\nvowing a fight to the death, a day after 34 striking miners died when police opened fire on them.<\/p>\n<p>Wives of some of the miners took the place of their dead and wounded husbands in staging a protest at a platinum mine northwest of Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0They&#8217;re demanding to know why police used automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns on the strikers.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the strikers had been armed with spears, machetes and clubs as they rushed toward the officers.<\/p>\n<p>Police have said they opened fire in self-defense.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BOSTON (AP) &#8211; An offer from the Obama campaign is getting a<br \/>\nthumbs down from Mitt Romney&#8217;s people.<\/p>\n<p>Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said if Romney would release five years of tax returns, the Democrats wouldn&#8217;t push for him to release any more.<\/p>\n<p>Romney&#8217;s campaign manager responds that President Barack Obama clearly wants to talk about Romney&#8217;s tax returns, instead of &#8220;the issues that<br \/>\nmatter to voters.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 HARRISBURG, Pa.
