(AP Aug 18, 2012) Water restrictions were lifted for Valley City residents.<\/p>\n<p>Officials say Valley City is no longer pumping raw sewage into the Sheyenne River after a master lift station plug was broken during maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>The sewage flow into the river was halted late Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>City officials say the master lift station holds all of the city\u2019s sewage and pumps it into the sewage lagoon.<\/p>\n<p>During routine maintenance the plug to the master lift drain failed and inundated the station.<\/p>\n<p>Officials estimate sewage was pumped into the river for about 30 hours before the problem was fixed on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Valley City Mayor Bob Werkhoven says the cause of the master lift station break-down is a major concern and will be investigated.<\/p>\n<p>Something in the system failed and it shouldn\u2019t happen again.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>CSiNewsNow \u2013 Jamestown, ND &#8211; August 18, 2012: The Jamestown Fire Department was called out at 9:45pm Saturday evening to the Dairy Queen on 10th St SW in Jamestown for a possible fire in the ventilation hood.<\/p>\n<p>DQ Jamestown franchise owners,<\/p>\n<p>Cheryl and Mark Wolf had just arrived and observed smoke and a flame coming from the vent.<\/p>\n<p>The fire department was alerted as a precaution.<\/p>\n<p>The fire department removed the vent screens and inspected the hood area.<\/p>\n<p>They observed that a small flash-over event occurred in one corner causing the flame and smoke, but it was not enough to activate the hood\u2019s fire suppression system.<\/p>\n<p>Cheryl Wolf said her &#8220;heart was beating a million miles an hour&#8221; when they called the fire department.<\/p>\n<p>The Jamestown Fire Department was on scene for 20 minutes while the inspection was made.<\/p>\n<p>After the all clear, the DQ staff and patrons were able to return to the building.<\/p>\n<p>The DQ remained open Saturday evening serving ice cream only as the grill was shut down until the screens and hood had been recleaned from the flash-over event.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (Aug 18, 2012) \u2013 After a pause in proceedings over the weekend, the trial of 34 year old Leron Howard of Jamestown will resume today\u00a0 Monday (Aug 20, 2012). The prosecution will call more witness for testimony today.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday,\u00a0\u00a0state medical examiner William Massello testified on Friday that Ahmed was hit on the head and suffered a devastating brain injury, and<br \/>\nthat he also was stabbed in the chest and stomach area<\/p>\n<p>Howard is charged with murder and criminal conspiracy, both Class AA Felonies, in the death of Abdi Ali Ahmed of Jamestown, who was 18 years old at the time of his death.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed\u2019s body was found in a roadside ditch, near Spiritwood on April 30, 2011, with the cause of death in the autopsy report as a result of stab wounds and blunt force trauma to the head.<\/p>\n<p>Janelle Cave is expected to take the stand, today, as ordered as part of her sentencing from her conviction of manslaughter, and conspiracy in the death of Abdi Ali Ahmed, of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Cave and Howard shared a home at the time Ahmed was killed.<\/p>\n<p>In February, of this year, co-defendant 22 year old Janelle Cave, of Jamestown was found guilty in Southeast District Court, of manslaughter and criminal conspiracy in Ahmed\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>Cave was sentenced to serve 11 years in prison, and is appealing her conviction in North Dakota Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>As part of her sentence, she is required to testify against Howard at his trial.<\/p>\n<p>See a recap of the trial proceedings through last Friday on line at CsiNewsNow.com under Jamestown News.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212; Today, the incoming Freshmen from Valley City State University will be sent on a scavenger hunt through downtown Valley City to visit businesses from 9am to 11am.<\/p>\n<p>The event is sponsored by the Valley City area Chamber of Commerce and the Valley Development Corporation.<\/p>\n<p>Chamber Executive Dawn Riley asks that everybody give the VCSU Freshmen Class a warm Valley City welcome today.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u3000VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The new manager of the Valley City National Fish Hatchery is working to make the federal facility a recreational destination.<\/p>\n<p>28 year old Kurt Eversman, has been managing the hatchery northwest of Valley City since March.<\/p>\n<p>He says, \u201cThis is federal property and people should be able to come and enjoy it. I would like to see people on the property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Valley City National Fish Hatchery atracting people from Valley City and the surrounding area include expanding the fishing pond now restricted to people 12 and younger to people 18 and younger along with senior citizens.<\/p>\n<p>Eversman said he plans to replace the pond\u2019s fishing pier with track decking, and the park benches need to be replaced. He also wants to add a simple hiking trail, plant patches of wildflowers and build an archery range.<\/p>\n<p>Eversman has been working with Girl Scouts from an adjoining camp to construct the two-mile hiking trail, complete with bird blinds and suitable habitat.<\/p>\n<p>Eversman also plans to begin an archery program. He has the bows and is seeking people to train as instructors. He also is thinking of adding a ninehole disc golf course to the site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A man convicted of killing two Fargo men<br \/>\nand torching their apartment has been turned down in his bid for a<br \/>\nnew DNA test of some evidence in his case.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dale Burke is serving a life prison sentence without parole for<br \/>\nthe April 1997 deaths of Lawrence Nelson and Edmund Huotari<br \/>\n(ho-TAR&#8217;-ee).<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors had a pair of Burke&#8217;s bloodstained jeans at his<br \/>\ntrial. DNA testing showed the blood was probably Huotari&#8217;s blood.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Burke claimed during his trial that Huotari bled on his jeans<br \/>\nwhen Huotari cut himself with a carpet knife.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Burke is now saying he misspoke and he doesn&#8217;t think the blood<br \/>\nwas Huotari&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Burke asked for more sophisticated DNA testing on<br \/>\nthe jeans to back up his theory.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota&#8217;s Supreme Court rejected the testing request<br \/>\nFriday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota&#8217;s Supreme Court says a deputy<br \/>\nstate prison warden who was fired for sexual harassment must get<br \/>\nhis job back.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The court&#8217;s ruling says Robert Heier (HY-ur) was improperly<br \/>\ndisciplined twice for the same wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>The court says he&#8217;s entitled to reinstatement and almost three years&#8217; back pay.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heier got into trouble in April 2009.<\/p>\n<p>He grabbed the backside of a female prison employee at a music show and said he would have her fired if she told anyone.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Heier was suspended from his job for a day.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The employee said later the punishment wasn&#8217;t strong enough. The<br \/>\ncase was reopened and Heier was fired.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling says North Dakota law doesn&#8217;t allow<br \/>\nfor a state employee to be punished more than once for the same<br \/>\nmisconduct.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; North Dakota had the lowest unemployment<br \/>\nrate in the nation in July, even as it increased slightly from the<br \/>\nmonth prior.<\/p>\n<p>Job Service North Dakota says the state&#8217;s jobless rate was 3 percent in July.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The state Public Service Commission says<br \/>\nNorth Dakota&#8217;s strong harvest has resulted in a record amount of<br \/>\ngrain storage licensed this year.<\/p>\n<p>The total licensed capacity stood at 379.8 million bushels last week, breaking the record of 368.1 million bushels for the same time a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u3000WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Crews have completed work on a temporary<br \/>\ntruck bypass on the west side of Williston.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The bypass will help route heavy oil field truck traffic around<br \/>\nWilliston and ease congestion in city limits.<\/p>\n<p>A temporary bypass also is planned on the east side of Williston. It&#8217;s to be done by the end of the year.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Local and state officials including Gov.
