Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Aug 13, 2013) \u2013 The NDDOT reported Tuesday afternoon that the segment of US 52 (1st Ave ) in Jamestown is now open to traffic.<\/p>\n

It was temporarily closed during a railroad crossing project by BNSF railroad.<\/p>\n

The reworking project required the complete closure of the crossing, originally planned and completed by late last week.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND \u2013 Interstate Engineering reports, the road closure currently in place on 3rd Ave NW from 5th St NW to 4th St NW is expected to extend south to 3rd St NW on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 so crews can continue their work on the Jamestown sanitary sewer project. 3rd St NW will remain open during this time.<\/p>\n

Work is expected to last for about a week and a half.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown City Council met in Special Session Tuesday morning (Aug13, 2013) with the Woodbury Township Officers to discuss a water line easement. Council Member Gumke was not present.<\/p>\n

City Administrator Jeff Fuchs said he recently met with Woodbury officials about an agreement<\/p>\n

At Tuesday\u2019s meeting were representative from Woodbury Township, were Chairman Duane Anderson, along with Supervisors Randy Wilson, and Larry Lee.<\/p>\n

At a Jamestown City Council meeting on August 8, 2013 the City council discussed the terms for granting an easement to the City of Jamestown from Woodbury Township to place a 16″ water main under 37th<\/sup> St SE in Woodbury Township. The main will provide water to the Southwest water tower under construction.<\/p>\n

The city maintains the road, outside of city limits.<\/p>\n

The township requested the city take all responsibility for the street in exchange for the easement.<\/p>\n

Mayor Andersen disagreed with maintaining roads outside of city limits.<\/p>\n

Council Member Gumke suggested a counter proposal to limit maintenance.<\/p>\n

The City Council voted unanimously to continue minimum maintenance, in cooperation with Stutsman County in exchange for the easement, with the City Attorney reviewing an agreement, as officials continued to negotiate with Woodbury Township<\/p>\n

At Tuesday morning\u2019s meeting, during discussions with Woodbury Township representatives<\/p>\n

Duane Anderson proposed the city take responsibility for snow removal and graveling, and blading.<\/p>\n

Woodbury will assume responsibility for ditch mowing where necessary, and maintain existing culverts.<\/p>\n

Mayor Andersen said she has no problem with the agreement, with those items taken out of the agreement. She said the street will be left in as good or better shape than before the work.<\/p>\n

Drainage will be improved in the area, with the reconstructed roadway.<\/p>\n

The city will ask permission of Woodbury Township for an sign errections.<\/p>\n

The Council voted unanimously to approve the agreement for the easement.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. — U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, a member of the Senate Banking Committee, will host a roundtable discussion on student loans and college affordability Thursday August 15, 2013, at 2pm at Valley City State, in the Student Center, Skoal Room.<\/p>\n

VCSU college administration officials, financial aid officers, and students will join Senator Heitkamp to talk about the recent bipartisan compromise on student loan interest rates.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (KCSi-T.V. News) — The N.D. Developmental Disability Network will hold nine town hall meetings throughout the state to gather input from people with disabilities and their families on the available supports, services, and other forms of assistance that help them live independently in their communities. The information will be used to identify any gaps in services for people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

A Town Hall meeting is scheduled for Jamestown on<\/p>\n

The meetings will cover various topics including employment, housing, transportation, health and wellness, child care for children with disabilities, education and transition opportunities, and other disability-related topics.<\/p>\n

Bismarck, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Aug 14, 2013) — Local North Dakota agencies are once again ramping up efforts to stop individuals from driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs.<\/p>\n

The Southeast Jamestown Regional DUI Task Force, in conjunction with NDDOT, announced that additional law enforcement officers will be present and monitoring city, rural and state roads throughout North Dakota between Friday August 16, and September 2, 2013.<\/p>\n

This effort coincides with the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.<\/p>\n

Highway Patrol Captain, Brian Niewind says, “Governor Jack Dalrymple recently signed House Bill 1302 into law giving North Dakota stricter DUI penalties. This bill doubles the fines for drinking and driving offenses and in many cases doubles the jail time as well, but it\u2019s those who have had multiple offenses that are hit the hardest, including additional jail time and\/or possible felony charges.”<\/p>\n

Statistical data has shown that there is still work to be done when it comes to eliminating the problem of people who choose to drink and drive in North Dakota, NDDOT stated. With increased enforcement comes the opportunity at increased safety on roadways.<\/p>\n

The Southeast Jamestown DUI Task Force includes the NDHP, Foster, Griggs, Stutsman, Barnes, McIntosh, and LaMoure counties\u2019 sheriffs\u2019 departments, and Carrington, Jamestown, Valley City +and Oakes police departments.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Department of Health has reported the state’s first West Nile virus death of the year. The woman was older than 60 years old and lived in the southeastern part of the state. The state has seen 16 human cases so far this year.<\/p>\n

SIDNEY, Mont. (AP) – A judge has accepted a plea deal between prosecutors and one of the men accused of killing a Montana teacher. The agreement calls for Lester Van Waters Jr. to plead guilty to deliberate homicide by accountability in the January 2012 slaying of Sidney High School teacher Sherry Arnold. In exchange, prosecutors are recommending a 100-year sentence that would spare Waters the death penalty and he will testify against co-defendant Michael Spell.<\/p>\n

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota state senator who pleaded guilty to an alcohol-related driving charge says he was unaware that his passenger possessed marijuana and marijuana pipes.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Park River Sen. Joe Miller says he doesn’t smoke marijuana. Authorities say Miller does not face any drug-related charges from the June 21 incident.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Miller pleaded guilty in July to speeding, having an open container of alcohol and being in actual physical control of a vehicle while over the legal blood-alcohol limit. He served a day in jail and paid $500 in fines.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 His passenger, 30-year-old Mathew Dub, has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor drug charges. Miller says Dub works on his farm.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Legislature approved the move earlier this year in response to a surge of license applications from people who have recently moved to North Dakota. State Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm says the check includes fingerprinting.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The requirement doesn’t apply to people renewing a license or those applying for one within a year of their license expiring or being canceled – unless it was suspended or revoked.

\u00a0 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A proposed 150-megawatt wind farm near the Canadian border in north-central North Dakota is being taken over by a Minneapolis utility. Xcel Energy Inc. says it is seeking approval from North Dakota regulators to acquire the permit for the Border Winds project in Rolette County. Xcel’s North Dakota manager Mark Nisbet says the project includes 66 wind turbines in Rolette County.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Lt. Gov Drew Wrigley says North Dakota is “at the front of the line” in the unmanned aircraft systems industry and should be designated as a national test site.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Drought that devastated crops and pastures in much of the Upper Midwest last year didn’t stop the price of farmland from shooting higher, especially in North Dakota.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Agriculture Department says the average price of an acre of North Dakota cropland has risen nearly 42 percent over the year.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The value rose 20 percent in Minnesota and 30 percent in South Dakota. The increase nationally was 13 percent.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota State University Extension Service farm management specialist Dwight Aakre (AW’-kree)\u00a0says \u00a0there are a couple of reasons for the increases.

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Conservation advocates are resurrecting a proposed ballot initiative that would set aside a bigger slice of North Dakota’s oil revenues for an outdoor heritage fund. The Clean Water, Wildlife and Parks Amendment would set aside 5 percent of the state’s oil extraction tax, which totaled $880 million last year. The amount has more than quadrupled since 2008. A similar proposal was derailed last year by a petition fraud scandal.<\/p>\n

MCCLUSKY, N.D. (AP) – A company known for its crew camps in the western North Dakota oil patch is setting up temporary housing in the central community of McClusky.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP Aug 13, 2013) \u2013 No teams from the Dakotas are in the NAIA football preseason poll, though Valley City State did receive some votes.<\/p>\n

National runner-up Morningside of Iowa begins the season as the top-ranked team; 2012 champion Marian of Indiana came in second despite receiving eight first-place votes to Morningside\u2019s four. Morningside had more total points in the coaches\u2019 poll.<\/p>\n

Missouri Valley got the other first-place vote in the poll and came in third.<\/p>\n

Valley City State finished last season 7-3 and ranked No. 24 in the country. The Vikings got some votes in this year\u2019s preseason poll, but not enough to crack the Top 25.<\/p>\n

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – Sporting dogs will be judged in the categories of nose, search, tracking, pointing, water, desire and cooperation this weekend as part of a North Dakota competition.<\/p>\n

The Central Dakota Chapter of North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association is hosting its annual hunt tests at Sweet Briar Recreation Area on Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n

The chapter’s Sherry Niesar says 13 dogs from North Dakota, Montana and Canada are registered to compete in a full field.<\/p>\n

Saturday’s natural ability test is designed to evaluate the inherent abilities of young dogs and gain insight into their potential as versatile gun dogs.<\/p>\n

Sunday’s utility test evaluates trained dogs in the water and field, before and after the shot, to see how they perform as versatile hunting companions.<\/p>\n
