News) &#8212; \u2013Starting September 1, 2013, Great Lakes Airlines in Conjunction with the Jamestown Regional Airport will be hosting their 5th Annual Flying 4 Food program in 43 regional airports that they service.<\/p>\n<p>1 in 6 people in America go hungry each day and with Flying 4 Food, Great Lakes Airlines is hoping to help the cause.<\/p>\n<p>They ask that you bring non-perishable food items to the Jamestown Regional Airport, through September 4, 2013. News) \u2013 Senators John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp and Congressman Kevin Cramer announced Wednesday (Aug 28, 2013) that airports across North Dakota have been awarded grants totaling over $11 million for improvements and construction projects.<\/p>\n<p>In the area a grant was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration to Oakes Municipal Airport which will receive over $1.5 million to rehabilitate the runway, taxiway and the apron.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A Bismarck police officer who usually doesn&#8217;t work patrol kept a man from jumping into the Missouri River.<\/p>\n<p>Kent Kaylor&#8217;s normal job is as a crime analyst.<\/p>\n<p>But on Tuesday, he filled in for a short-staffed patrol shift and responded to a call of the man threatening to leap from the Liberty Memorial Bridge between Bismarck and Mandan.<\/p>\n<p>Kaylor says he yelled &#8220;no&#8221; to the man as he started to climb, then ran over, gave him a bear hug and pulled the man to the sidewalk.<\/p>\n<p>The officer says the guy asked why he didn&#8217;t let him jump.<\/p>\n<p>A year ago, a man jumped from the top of a nearby bridge, but that was not a suicide. His body was found three weeks later.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Fargo police say they&#8217;ve arrested a man in connection with the largest heroin seizure in the city for some time.<\/p>\n<p>21-year-old Wyatt Cullen Brown reported being carjacked by three people last week in south Fargo and was arrested Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say a dog sniffed his car and alerted to the presence of drugs, which led to a search that turned up 12 grams of heroin, the prescription drug hydromorphone, a scale and $1,300 cash.<\/p>\n<p>Police say the seizure stemmed from the carjacking investigation and a joint investigation with the Moorhead Police Department.<\/p>\n<p>Brown was arrested on suspicion of heroin possession with intent to distribute and possession of a Schedule II narcotic, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A McIntosh County man who pleaded guilty to charges that starved his cattle to death is no longer charged with insurance fraud charges.<\/p>\n<p>James Schnabel pleaded guilty Friday to three of the four counts against him of overworking, mistreating or abandoning animals. More than 100 died.<\/p>\n<p>Schnabel has to pay more than $1,300, do 80 hours of community service and allow his operation to be monitored for two years.<\/p>\n<p>Now the prosecutor has dropped charges of criminal attempt at theft of property and committing a fraudulent insurance act.<\/p>\n<p>Reasons given included conflicting evidence, Schnabel&#8217;s lack of criminal history and his plea.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities allege that Schnabel submitted an insurance claim falsely stating that the starved cattle had died after being chased by wild dogs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Airmen and bombers from Minot Air Force Base plan to return home later this week from Guam.<\/p>\n<p>About 200 crew members of the 23rd Bomb Squadron with six B-52s and the 5th Maintenance Group were deployed in March to Andersen Air Force Base.<\/p>\n<p>Minot base spokesman 1st Lt. Jose Davis says the mission was for an ongoing military effort to provide a continuous bomber presence in the Western Pacific, which started in March 2004.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Sykes Enterprises Inc. has closed its call center in Bismarck.<\/p>\n<p>Company Executive Vice President Dan Hernandez\u00a0says \u00a0operations were stopped in mid-July and that Sykes is trying to sell or lease the 42,000-square-foot building.<\/p>\n<p>Phil Davis with Job Service North Dakota says Sykes filed a layoff notice with the agency a couple of months ago but didn&#8217;t say how many workers were affected. Hernandez says the employees were offered the chance to work from home. He did not say how many people worked at the call center before it closed.<\/p>\n<p>Sykes opened its center in Bismarck in 1996, saying it would employ up to 650 workers. The business received $4 million in incentives from the city.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A group planning a $1.5 billion nitrogen fertilizer plant in northeastern North Dakota is in the process of buying a site.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Plains Nitrogen Chairman Darin Anderson says the company is buying land next to Grand Forks&#8217; municipal sewage lagoons north of the city and east of Interstate 29.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson says the project also has secured a supply of natural gas, which will be converted into farm fertilizer products such as anhydrous ammonia and urea.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Don Pottinger says financing must still be arranged before construction can begin. Nidal Hasan to death for killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009. Hasan has said the attack on unarmed soldiers was motivated by a desire to protect Muslim insurgents fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hasan could become the first American soldier executed in more than half a century. But because the military justice system requires a lengthy appeals process, years or even decades could pass before he is put to death.<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (AP) &#8211; Their fathers led the nation in the early years amid the struggle by black America for civil rights &#8211; and both Lynda Bird Johnson Robb and Caroline Kennedy see much work still to be done. Shannon Richardson is accused of sending the threatening letters in May to Obama, Bloomberg and a third man who heads Bloomberg&#8217;s gun-control group.
