Stutsman County is experiencing severe drought conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Rain Thursday morning officially in Jamestown was about 0.25 inches, while northern Stutsman County recorded 1 inch to 2 inches of rain.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span><span>Jamestown, ND (KCSi- T.V. News Aug 29, 2013) \u2013 Interstate Engineering reports, as crews continue their work on Jamestown sanitary sewer project, residents and drivers are asked to be aware of the following closures and work that will take place. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Second Ave NE Closures<\/p>\n<p>The intersection of 2nd Ave NE and Highway 20 is open. Temporary surfacing is in place.<\/p>\n<p>Once this intersection is open, the intersection of 2nd Ave NE and 5th St NE will close. In addition, the intersection of 3rd Ave NE and 5th St NE will partially close during working hours. These closures are expected to be in place for about two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Starting on Tuesday, September 3, 2nd Ave NE will close from 2nd St NE to 1st St E. This closure is expected to be in place for about two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>It is anticipated that the closure currently in place on 2nd Ave NE from 4th St NE to 5th St NE will be extended to 6th St NE on Wednesday, September 4. This area is expected to remain closed for about two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Third Street SE Construction<\/p>\n<p>Starting on Tuesday, September 3, crews will be working on 3rd St SE from 12th Ave SE, near the railroad tracks, to 11th Ave SE. Work is expected to last for about a week.<\/p>\n<p>3rd St SE will remain open during this time. However, drivers are asked slow down, use caution and be aware of lane closures. News) &#8212; The Funeral Service for former Jamestown City Fire Chief Bert Gray was held Thursday morning, (Aug 29, 2013) at the Jamestown Civic Center.<\/p>\n<p>He died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Scott Block officiated. The Eulogy was given by Jamestown City Fire Chief Jim Reuther<\/p>\n<p>On hand for the service along with family and friends were representatives of the Jamestown City and Rural Fire Departments, the City of Jamestown, Stutsman County, the Salvation Army, Red Cross, and representatives of fire fighter associations and law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The Patriot Guard escorted the funeral procession to Highland Homes Cemetery in Jamestown for the service and intermit.<\/p>\n<p>Arrangements were made through Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Bert joined the Jamestown Fire Department in 1969 and served for 39 years holding positions as Captain, Fire Marshal, serving 18 years as Fire Chief, retiring in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Bert was a Charter Member of the North Dakota Fire Prevention Association, served as its President 1977-78, Member of the North Dakota Fire Chiefs Association, served as its President 1995-96, and as Secretary\/Treasurer from 1998 to 2007, life member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs serving as state Vice President from 1998 to 2005, life member of the North Dakota Firefighters Association.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. (AP) &#8211; Bismarck police this week destroyed a pipe bomb found near the western town of Hebron.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Morton County Sheriff Dave Shipman says a woman found the device near a pond on Tuesday, and the Bismarck bomb squad determined it was a homemade pipe bomb. The squad destroyed it as a precaution.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Shipman says it appears someone had tried to detonate the bomb before it was found.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities did not immediately have any leads in their investigation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Bismarck police say they seized $23,000 worth of methamphetamine during a traffic stop. Sergeant Mark Buschena (byoo-SHEE&#8217;-nuh).\u00a0 officers found 4.5 ounces of meth, along with marijuana, $5,000 in cash and drug paraphernalia. The bust was made after pulling over a vehicle Tuesday afternoon for having a broken brake light and no license plate.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &#8211; A former armored truck driver has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $182,000 from ATMs in Minnesota and North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thirty-one-year-old Christopher James Diestler (DEEST&#8217;-lur) of Fergus Falls pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of bank larceny.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In his plea agreement, Diestler admitted that from March 2005 through March 15th, 2012 he stole about $182,350 from bank ATMs in Alexandria, Breckenridge, Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls and Morris, Minnesota and Wahpeton, North Dakota.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ATM currency is dispensed from cassettes that are installed in the machines. Diestler admitted taking cash from those cassettes. Prosecutors say he would then replace the missing funds with currency taken from another ATM, so any audit would not reveal the thefts.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Diestler faces a potential maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Sentencing has not been set yet.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The owner of a West Fargo tanning salon has been sentenced to prison for failing to register as a sex offender.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Twenty-eight-year-old Jared Holland pleaded guilty to the charge in federal court on April 1.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say they discovered Holland was a convicted sex offender after police responded to a domestic complaint in March 2012.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Holland was convicted of second degree rape in Brown County, South Dakota, in September 2003.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Investigators say Holland and his wife had moved to North Dakota to operate Exclusive Tan in West Fargo. Holland failed to notify authorities of his new job, as is required for a registered sex offender.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson on Thursday sentenced Holland to seven months in prison, followed by seven months of home confinement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota Supreme Court has reserved the convictions of two Mandan business owners charged in a synthetic drug case.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 William Nickel and Ryan Zueger, the owners of Big Willies smoke shop, were convicted last year of conspiracy to deliver synthetic drugs.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The court said in an opinion released Thursday that police officers illegally seized and searched a package that a representative of the business had intended to deliver.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The defendants had argued that the evidence should not have been allowed at trial because officers did not have a search warrant.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The ruling says a judge allowed the evidence because an employee of the shipping outlet opened the package and the officers had enough information to establish probable cause.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Attorneys in the case were not available for comment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota Supreme Court has thrown out the conviction of one of two men found guilty in the January 2012 killing of a Montana man.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A jury last summer found Cody Borner, of Stanton, and Richard Whitman, of Hazen, guilty of two counts each of conspiracy to commit murder in the death of Mike Padilla, of Billings, Mont.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Borner argued that the complaint and jury instructions were defective because they accused him of a crime that is not defined in North Dakota law.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The court voted 4-1 to reverse the judgment. Justice Mary Muehlen Maring said in the majority opinion released Thursday that Borner has, in effect, not been charged and prosecutors are able to revisit the case.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mercer County State&#8217;s Attorney Jessica Binder was not available for comment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Jurors in a trial against Grand Forks County must decide if a former public administrator mishandled a man&#8217;s money and property.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Barbara Zavala&#8217;s work as a guardian and public administrator is at the center of the case in Grand Forks.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Paul Veum, of Lakota, sued the county, claiming that as Zavala&#8217;s employer, it was responsible for her alleged mishandling of his money and property while she was his appointed guardian and conservator.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nVeum is seeking $30,000 for property and assets he says disappeared under Zavala&#8217;s oversight, plus more than $50,000 for pain and suffering.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Zavala&#8217;s attorney, Kerry Rosenquist, says she won&#8217;t answer questions because the testimony could be used against her in a federal investigation underway into allegations about Zavala&#8217;s handling of client assets.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0LEITH, N.D.
