JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP & KCSi-T.V. News Aug 21, 2012) \u2014 A Jamestown man on trial for murder in the death of a Somali immigrant says he hit the victim and knocked him to the ground, but denied stabbing him.<\/p>\n

35-year-old Leron Howard testified Tuesday that he struck 18-year-old Abdi Ali Ahmed twice during an argument between Ahmed and Janelle Cave on April 30, 2011.<\/p>\n

Howard said an altercation between Cave and Ahmed started in a trailer home Cave shared with Howard and Alexa Stoller, over money owed by Ahmed for drugs.<\/p>\n

Howard stepped between Cave and Ahmed and struck Ahmed when Howard thought Ahmed was going to strike Cave.<\/p>\n

Cave earlier testified that she never witnessed Howard hit Ahmed, and that it was Howard who stabbed Ahmed along a rural roadside.<\/p>\n

Howard said Cave stabbed Ahmed.<\/p>\n

A medical examiner earlier testified that Ahmed likely died because of blunt force trauma to the head, and that the stab wounds to the abdomen accelerated the death.<\/p>\n

Ahmed\u2019s body was found around noon on April 30, 2011, in a road ditch near Spiritwood.<\/p>\n

Howard testified Tuesday that he did not know Ahmed was dead until Howard was booked into the Stutsman County Jail, that evening.<\/p>\n

Howard is charged with murder and criminal conspiracy in the death of Ahmed, whose body was found in a ditch near Spiritwood.<\/p>\n

Cave was earlier convicted of manslaughter and criminal conspiracy and is serving an 11-year prison sentence.<\/p>\n

Tuesday \u00a0afternoon the prosecution and defense rested, and presented closing arguments.<\/p>\n

Defense attorney Steve Mottinger asked the jury to find Howard guilty on a lesser charge of manslaughter, saying Howard did not intentionally kill Ahmed,\u00a0and that \u00a0Howard admitted to hitting Ahmed in the head twice, and kicking him.<\/p>\n

\u00a0In his closing arguments, prosecutor, Stutsman County State\u2019s Attorney, Fritz Fremgen said,\u00a0 Leron Howard and Janelle Cave\u00a0 want to distance themselves from the stabbing as it shows intent to harm Ahmed.<\/p>\n

The jury\u00a0 begins deliberation\u00a0 Wednesday morning<\/p>\n

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V News Aug 21, 2012) \u00a0 \u2013\u00a0\u00a0 Valley City police is seeking information on park vandalisms, and is increasing patrols.<\/p>\n

Reports\u00a0of vandalism, fires, and other\u00a0incidnt reports\u00a0have\u00a0recently increased\u00a0at Chautauqua and City Parks.<\/p>\n

Incidents include\u00a0graffiti on\u00a0park equipment, and \u00a0a city-owned dumpster and garbage can at Chautauqua Park were set on fire, along with\u00a0 reports of drinking and possible drug activity, which have likely occurred at night, when the parks are off limits.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Police are increasing park patrols.<\/p>\n

Anyone seeing suspecious activity should call Valley City Police at 845-3110.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2014 The Jamestown City Council\u2019s Finance & Legal Committee, Building, planning & Zoning Committee, and Civic Center & Promotion Committee met Tuesday Evening (Aug 21, 2012) at City Hall.<\/p>\n

Council Member Gumke was not present.<\/p>\n

A motion was made and seconded to table the offer from Tim Dabill to purchase Lots 1 & 2, Block 2, Beverly Hills 6th Addition, and Lots 18 & 19, Beverly Hills 3rd Addition, in the amount of $6,000, subject to the buyer paying for all costs of surveying and approval of a re-plat prior to deed transfer.\u00a0 Dabill was not present at the meeting.<\/p>\n

A Public Input Meeting was held to receive public comments regarding Section 8, of Appendix B of the City Code relative to subdivision development improvements and suggested changes.<\/p>\n

Committee Chairman, Dan Buchanan outlined guidelines for speaking at the meeting, including a three minute oral presentation, followed by two minutes for the committee response.<\/p>\n

Comments would only be taken on the subject at hand.<\/p>\n

He added that written comments to supplement oral comments may be submitted to City\u00a0Administrator Jeff Fuchs by 5-p.m., on August 31, 2012.<\/p>\n

Mark Goehner, representing Eddy Funeral Home and Marjo, Inc., spoke of changes needed, concerning costs to developers, and installation of infrastructure issues.<\/p>\n

He said he has worked with Jordahl developers from Fargo.<\/p>\n

Clarice Liechty asked what the City Council has been doing to address reviewing and any changes to the city Ordinance, and to look at what other cities are doing.<\/p>\n

Corey Bayer said he has not developed new properties.<\/p>\n

He said Jamestown could look at ways to stretch developers dollars over a period of time, to make projects more cost effective.<\/p>\n

The committee asked for general comments from those in attendance.<\/p>\n

Candice Dempsey, of Reuben Liechty Realty, said the climate for housing in Jamestown is stagnant.<\/p>\n

She added a need for condominiums in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Families new to Jamestown in some cases are struggling to find a home to buy in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Dave Hillerud, of Hillerud Construction also suggested seeing what other cities are doing with their Ordinances, concerning development.<\/p>\n

He asked what kind of timeline the city has to make changes.<\/p>\n

City Attorney Ken Dalsted it takes couple of months to affect an Ordinance change based on a consensus by the City Council, in addition to any recommendations by the City Planning Commission.<\/p>\n

Mayor Andersen said the city has copies of Ordinances from North Dakota cities of similar size to Jamestown, that will be reviewed.<\/p>\n

City Administrator Jeff Fuchs added, currently the developer is responsible for the costs of installing water and sewer lines, road grading and graveling, curb and gutter, and paving.<\/p>\n

Paying Special Assessments is the responsibility of the developer until the property is sold.<\/p>\n

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2014 The Barnes County Municipal Airport in Valley City is hosting the \u201cWings & Wheels Airshow,\u201d Saturday September 8, 2012.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On The Wayne Byers Show, on CSi Cable 2, Airshow Co-Director, Lori Jury said in addition to aerobatic entertainment, the event will feature the Bridge City Cruisers Classic Car Show & Shine.<\/p>\n

There will also be military and static aircraft displays, plus, and evening outdoor bbq dinner served.<\/p>\n

Plans include a fireworks display, and entertainment by the band \u201cPast Due.\u201d<\/p>\n

On site concessions will also be available.<\/p>\n

There will also be a \u201cNight Air Show,\u201d beginning that evening at 9:30.<\/p>\n

The airshow is being dedicated to the memory of local aviators Larry Lindemann and Bob Beyer.<\/p>\n

Lindemann served as the manager of the Barnes County Municipal Airport for 27 years from 1985-2012. He passed away March 17, 2012.<\/p>\n

Beyer was appointed to the Barnes County Municipal Airport Authority in 1976, serving as chairman for eight years.<\/p>\n

He retired in 2009, and passed away in 2011. Beyer was instrumental in securing funding for and implemented many ideas for development of the local airport.<\/p>\n

Aircraft performers include\u2026award winning Pilots Matt Younkin, and Warren Pietsch, along with Jim \u201cFang\u201d Maroney, Toby McPherson, Rex Hammarback, and Jarrod and Paul Lindemann.<\/p>\n

Barnes County Airport Authority Chairman, Denny Helland said there will be an after dark performance.<\/p>\n

McPherson, from Page, North Dakota, flies the P-51 Mustang, which he says won World War II for the allies.<\/p>\n

He will fly the winner of a drawing in his aircraft the day of the show.<\/p>\n

Ms. Jury added that advance ticket holders have the chance to win the ride with McPherson.<\/p>\n

The drawing will be held on Monday August 27, 2012.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2014 The Jamestown Public School Board Monday (Aug 20, 2012) considered how to keep students in the school district.<\/p>\n

It was noted that seven students or their parents have decided to leave the school district, on kindergarten student, one in sixth grade, two freshman, two sophmores and one junior.<\/p>\n

Requested to be allowed to move to the Pingree-Buchanan school district.<\/p>\n

Considering each request separately, the board voted 6-1, for approving the no cost tuition for the seven students.<\/p>\n

Roger Haut, Greg Allen, Shelly Jystad, Heidi Larson, Terry Anderson and Roy Musland were in favor with Gail Martin opposed. Board members Tanya Ostlie and Diane Hanson were absent.<\/p>\n

About $4,000 in foundation aid payments go from the state to the other school district.<\/p>\n

Jamestown School Superintendent, Robert Toso said the school district has sent out a letter to everyone who has left Jamestown Public Schools requesting reasons for leaving. He said there has only been one or two responses.<\/p>\n

Board member Greg Allen said if students leave the school district that it does not indicate that there necessarily is anything wrong with the school district.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Workers are adding 280 parking spaces on
\nthe west side of the state Capitol building in Bismarck.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Facilities Manager John Boyle says the $1.2 million project is
\nthe first part of a three-phase process to increase parking and do
\nlandscaping work on the Capitol grounds.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 During the legislative session every two years, lawmakers take
\nup 175 parking spots, leaving about 100 for visitors and lobbyists.<\/p>\n

That means many people have to park on the road that loops in front
\nof the Capitol or on city streets. Boyle says the new parking
\nspaces should create a safer environment.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The new lot is to be done by November, in plenty of time for the
\nstart of the 2013 Legislature in January.<\/p>\n

\u00a0FARGO, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Army National Guard plans to
\nbeef up its aviation presence in the eastern part of the state.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Guard says it will base a Black Hawk helicopter in Fargo,
\nand rotate Lakota and Kiowa helicopters between Fargo and Bismarck.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Army National Guard aircraft have flown solely out of Bismarck
\nsince 1958. The Guard says also flying out of Fargo will help it
\nbetter respond to natural disasters and search-and-rescue missions
\nin eastern North Dakota.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota woman who tried to flee
\npolice while driving drunk with two teenage passengers in her
\nvehicle says she will plead guilty in federal court.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kristal Good Bird is charged with child abuse in Indian country.
\nAuthorities say she was speeding on Main Street of New Town on May
\n21 and crashed her vehicle into a gas pump while trying to elude
\nauthorities.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say a 14-year-old passenger was injured in the crash and
\nhospitalized overnight for observation.
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Good Bird faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0MAPLETON, N.D. (AP) – Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old
\nboy in the armed robbery of a Mapleton gas station.<\/p>\n

The holdup took place Monday evening at Gordy’s Travel Plaza.<\/p>\n

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the teenage suspect was arrested without incident about a half hour after the robbery.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Investigators say a house fire in which a retired Grand Forks attorney died started on the kitchen stove and spread to nearby combustibles and the kitchen cabinets.
