{"id":268309,"date":"2023-01-21T19:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-01-22T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=268309"},"modified":"2023-01-23T05:04:24","modified_gmt":"2023-01-23T11:04:24","slug":"jimmies-saturday-sports-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=268309","title":{"rendered":"Jimmies Saturday Sports Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Women&#8217;s Hockey<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/article\/6929\">(UJ<\/a>)  &#8212; <\/strong>The 13th-ranked Jimmie women&#8217;s hockey team recorded its first conference road sweep with a pair of wins over No. 15 University of Minnesota on Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE BASICS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Friday: UJ 5, Minnesota 2<\/li><li>Saturday: UJ 7, Minnesota 6 (OT)<\/li><li>Records: UJ 8-14 (5-12 MCH); Minnesota 2-8 (2-8 MCH)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HOW IT HAPPENED<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Friday&#8217;s game saw the Gophers get on the board first as Izzy Parenteau scored at the 4:57 mark of period one for a 1-0 lead.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12403\">Annika Braun<\/a> drew the Jimmies level with her goal at 10:18 of the first, assisted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12401\">Mackenzie Couling<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12400\">Kelsey Amick<\/a>.<\/li><li>Neither team scored in the second period, although the Jimmies went on the power play three times and Minnesota twice.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12407\">Emma Strouse<\/a>&#8216;s goal at 1:56 of the third period broke the 1-1 tie, and was the first of four Jamestown tallies in a span of 8:07.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12409\">Bethany Wielgosh<\/a>, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12410\">Crystal Wale<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12399\">Rylee Gee<\/a>, made it 3-1 at 12:51.<\/li><li>Wale extended the lead to 4-1 with an unassisted goal at 11:30.<\/li><li>Gee notched the final UJ goal at 9:57 on an assist from Wielgosh.<\/li><li>Erica Lieske got Minnesota&#8217;s second goal with 12 seconds left as the game ended 5-2.<\/li><li>Shots were 22-13 in favor of Jamestown.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12412\">Makenzie Gibson<\/a> made 11 saves in goal for the Jimmies.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12403\">Annika Braun<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12399\">Rylee Gee<\/a> had first-period goals on Saturday as UJ led 2-0 after one.<\/li><li>Minnesota scored four times in the second to go back in front 4-2 with 5:25 left before the second intermission.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12409\">Bethany Wielgosh<\/a> brought Jamestown within 4-3 on a power play goal at 18:49 of the second. The Jimmies had gone 25 straight power play chances without a goal.<\/li><li>The Gophers retook a two-goal lead at 4:18 of the of third, then scored again at 9:03 for a 6-3 advantage.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12394\">Samantha Muller<\/a> made it 6-4 with UJ&#8217;s second power play goal of the game at the 11:41 mark.<\/li><li>The Jimmies capitalized on two power play opportunities inside the final minute.<\/li><li>Braun&#8217;s second of the game cut the deficit to 6-5 with 48 seconds left, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12407\">Emma Strouse<\/a> tied the game 24 seconds later with Jamestown&#8217;s fourth power play goal.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12410\">Crystal Wale<\/a> picked up her second game-winning overtime goal of the season, scoring 19 seconds into the extra period to complete the Jimmie comeback.<\/li><li>Wielgosh had three assists and Wale finished with two.<\/li><li>Shots were 32-24 Jamestown.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/51\/12413\">Lilah Drew<\/a> had 18 saves for UJ.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UP NEXT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Jimmies finish the regular season with five straight home games.<\/li><li>UJ hosts Minot State on February 4 with puck drop set for 3:45 from Wilson Arena.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Men&#8217;s Wrestling<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/stats\/2022-23\/Missouri%20Valley%20Open%20Results%20UJ.pdf\">Missouri Valley College Invitational Results<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basketball<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jamestown 68 Hastings 62<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HASTINGS, Neb.  (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/article\/6932\">UJ)<\/a> &#8212; <\/strong>The Jimmie women&#8217;s basketball team won its third straight game Saturday afternoon, defeating Hastings College 68-62 at Lynn Farrell Arena<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE BASICS<\/strong><br>Final Score: UJ 68, Hastings 62<br>Records: UJ 15-5 (10-4 GPAC), Hastings 8-12 (4-10 GPAC)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HOW IT HAPPENED<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Six lead changes and one tie occurred in the first 5:15 of the game before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/2\/12717\">Sarah Lenz<\/a> put Jamestown in front for good with a three-pointer at the 5:04 mark.<\/li><li>UJ built up a six-point lead before Hastings closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to make it 19-18.<\/li><li>The Jimmies continued to lead by as many as six after baskets by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/2\/12712\">Kate Busek<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/2\/12701\">Hannah DeMars<\/a> with just over five minutes left in the half.<\/li><li>The Broncos trimmed the lead to two following a Mariyah Avila basket with 1:48 left, then the teams traded three-pointers (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/2\/12702\">Kia Tower<\/a> and Lenz for UJ; Avila for Hastings) to close out the half with Jamestown leading 36-34.<\/li><li>Busek and Lenz each hit from long distance as part of an 8-1 run to start the third quarter as the Jimmies went up 44-35 at the 6:07 mark.<\/li><li>Hastings got as close as five (49-44) with 2:11 left in the third, but a three-point play from DeMars and a three-pointer by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/2\/13154\">Kate Cordes<\/a> helped UJ go ahead by 10 at the 1:14 mark.<\/li><li>The fourth quarter opened with Hastings on a 5-0 run to get with 55-52, but Jamestown responded with a 7-0 run to go back in front by double digits (62-52) with 6:14 to play. The lead stayed between 7 and 10 points until Alyssa Baker made a three with nine seconds left, and the game ended 68-62.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>JAMESTOWN GAME NOTES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Jimmies shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the floor, including 32.3 percent (10-of-31) from three-point range.<\/li><li>DeMars filled the stat sheet with 17 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, and three steals.<\/li><li>Tower scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out six assists.<\/li><li>Lenz and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/2\/12707\">Audrey Rodakowski<\/a> each finished with nine points.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HASTINGS GAME NOTES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Broncos shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the floor, including 30.8 percent (8-of-26) from three-point range.<\/li><li>Avila had 14 points, including four three-pointers, while Allison Bauer finished with 11 and Baker had 10.<\/li><li>Hastings lost to the Jimmies for the third time in their last four meetings.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UP NEXT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>UJ returns home for five of its final eight games, hosting Mount Marty (S.D.) on January 25.<\/li><li>Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from Harold Newman Arena.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Men<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jamestown 71   HastIngs 57<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HASTINGS, Neb.  (<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/article\/6933\">https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/article\/6933<\/a><strong>  (<\/strong><strong>UJ)&#8211; <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/1\/12118\">Mason Walters<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/1\/12124\">Will Cordes<\/a> combined for 43 points to help lead the 14th-ranked Jimmie men&#8217;s basketball team to a 71-57 win over Hastings College Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE BASICS<\/strong><br>Final Score: UJ 71, Hastings 57<br>Records: UJ 17-3 (9-3 GPAC), Hastings 13-7 (6-6 GPAC)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HOW IT HAPPENED<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Walters (two), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/1\/12161\">Colby Vazquez<\/a>, and Cordes all hit three-pointers in a 12-1 run that turned a 7-5 Hastings lead into a 17-8 edge for the Jimmies.<\/li><li>After Tyrique McMurrin converted a three-point play to make it a six-point lead (28-22) with 4:33 to play, the Jimmies went on a 5-0 run and finished the half with 12 of the final 14 for a 40-24 lead at the break.<\/li><li>Seven of UJ&#8217;s 14 first-half field goals were threes, including two each from Walters and Cordes.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/1\/12119\">Cole Woodford<\/a>&#8216;s basket to start the second half began a 7-0 run that ballooned Jamestown&#8217;s lead to 47-24 and forcing a Hastings timeout at the 16:56 mark.<\/li><li>Hastings would get no closer than 15 points while the Jimmies eventually pushed their advantage to 27 on two different occasions.<\/li><li>A dunk by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/1\/12159\">Jimmy Llinas<\/a> at the 5:59 mark made it 71-44, but the Broncos held UJ scoreless for the remainder of the contest, finishing on a 13-0 run.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>JAMESTOWN GAME NOTES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Jimmies shot 46.4 percent (26-of-56) from the field, including 40 percent (12-of-30) from three.<\/li><li>Walters had 23 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals to lead the Jimmies.<\/li><li>Cordes finished with 20 points and made 6-of-9 three-point attempts.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/1\/12128\">Cooper Olson<\/a> grabbed six rebounds and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/roster\/23\/1\/12119\">Cole Woodford<\/a> also passed out four assists.<\/li><li>UJ is 10-1 against Hastings since joining the GPAC.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HASTINGS GAME NOTES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Hastings shot 45.8 percent (22-of-48) from the field, including 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from three.<\/li><li>Danilo Matovic paced the Broncos with 21 points and seven rebounds.<\/li><li>Reggie Thomas was also in double figures with 11 points.<\/li><li>The Broncos lost for the fourth time in their last five games.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UP NEXT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Jamestown plays the first of three consecutive home games beginning Wednesday against Mount Marty (S.D.)<\/li><li>Tip-off is set for 7:45 p.m. from Harold Newman Arena.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Hockey<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Men  D-2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jamestown 9 Minnesota State Mankato 0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Women&#8217;s Hockey MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.
