Jamestown (CSi) \u2013 The Jamestown City Council’s Public Works Committee Thursday unanimously recommended approval of the City of Jamestown applying for a grant with the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District. The funds to be used toward the replacement and repair of pedestrian bridges in parks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Public Works Director, Tyler Michel said grant funds up to $75,000 are available through Garrison Diversion. The pedestrian bridges would be eligible for the funds. He said the grant application has to be submitted by March 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The city of Jamestown applied for a grant from the North Dakota Department of Transportation\u2019s Transportation Alternatives Program to help with replacing bridges at Klaus, McElroy and Nickeus parks. The NDDOT approved the grant for 80% up to $1 million<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cost to replace three bridges is over $1.6 million. The city will be allowed to let contractors bid on the project to replace all three bridges with the one at McElroy Park being an alternative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Public Works Committee unanimously recommended approval of an engineering agreement with Interstate Engineering for the pedestrian bridge improvement project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Public Works Committee also, unanimously recommended approval of supporting an effort to address a food-grade carbon dioxide shortage in North Dakota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A draft of a resolution will be created for the City Council to review and possibly approve at its February 6 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Water superintendent, Joe Rowell said a company that produces food-grade carbon dioxide and one that transports it is within the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mayor Dwaine Heinrich said there needs to be a collaborative effort between state leaders and others working with the industry in North Dakota to establish additional food-grade carbon dioxide production facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
