Jamestown, ND (KCST.V. News Sept 11, 2013) \u2013 The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports a Jamestown Man died and his 24 year old passenger, also from Jamestown was injured, Wednesday evening, (Sept 11, 2013,) in a one vehicle rollover near Spiritwood, about 9:40-p.m.<\/p>\n

The report says a 1972 Ford pickup was northbound on Stutsman County Road 62 en route from Spiritwood, to Wimbledon. The vehicle dropped off the east edge of the roadway and the driver over-corrected losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle slid sideways across the roadway and entered the west ditch. The vehicle overturned several times in the west ditch.<\/p>\n

Both the driver and passenger were not seat belted and were ejected from the vehicle. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger was injured and taken to Jamestown Medical Center by ambulance for non life threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

Their names will be released after family members have been notified.<\/p>\n

The Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office assisted at the scene.<\/p>\n

The crash is under investigation by the NDHP.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Stutsman County State\u2019s Attorney has filed charges against an inmate accused of attacking a prison guard at the James River Correctional Center on July 28, 2013.<\/p>\n

Shawn Ostafin has been charged with the assault on the correctional officer, Jeremiah MacDonald.<\/p>\n

MacDonald sustained severe head injuries and was airlifted to a Bismarck hospital.<\/p>\n

Ostafin is also charged as a habitual offender.<\/p>\n

If found guilty on that charge Ostafin could face an additional ten years in prison.<\/p>\n

Ostafin was serving a sentence for terrorizing.<\/p>\n

Ostafin was disciplined last year for assaulting two staff members at the state penitentiary in Bismarck.<\/p>\n

In 1990 he was convicted in the murders of his father and stepmother in Mandan.<\/p>\n

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) \u2013 An emergency dispatcher in Jamestown has been fired after allegedly leaking confidential information about an investigation.<\/p>\n

Stutsman County officials allege that Miranda Meisch provided information to a suspect \u2013 including the name of the person who complained about suspicious activity at a residence.<\/p>\n

County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist says Meisch jeopardized a police investigation and could have put the person who called authorities in danger.<\/p>\n

Meisch was put on administrative leave Aug. 12, 2013 and was fired Aug. 28 after violating terms of the leave by going out of town.<\/p>\n

Meisch had been a dispatcher for more than two years. A telephone listing for her could not immediately be found.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 11, 2013) \u2013 Interstate Engineering reports that a section of 3rd Avenue NE near Lincoln Elementary School is expected to close today Thursday (Sept 12, 213) as part of the Jamestown sanitary sewer project. Starting Thursday afternoon, 3rd Avenue NE will close from 6th St NE to 7th St NE.<\/p>\n

Work is projected to last for about two weeks. A map is online at jamestownsewerproject.com and can be accessed through CsiNewsNow.com<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The South Central Human Service Center\u2019s license to provide substance abuse treatment will be suspended for 90 days, starting Monday, September 16, 2013.<\/p>\n

The 90-day suspension involves just the substance abuse cases and does not affect treatment for other mental health issues.<\/p>\n

Department of Human Services superintendent of institutions, Alex Schweitzer, says, “We need to look at how we review cases and documentation.”<\/p>\n

Schweitzer said the substance abuse program currently serves 63 clients, adding that\u00a0 other regional human service centers and private addiction counselors\u00a0 will treat everyone that needs treatment.<\/p>\n

No layoffs, are planned regarding the the suspension.<\/p>\n

Regional human service centers are located in Fargo, Devils Lake, Grand Forks, Minot, Williston and Dickinson.SCHSC serves the counties of Wells, Foster, Griggs, Stutsman, Barnes, Logan, LaMoure, McIntosh and Dickey.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2014 Patriot\u2019s Day this year will be commemorated locally today, Thursday, September 12<\/b>. Charlie Kourajian, Chairman of the Jamestown Patriotic Council, says the change of date was due to scheduling conflicts at the All Vets Club.<\/p>\n

Kourajian says, “This\u00a0(is) the 12th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country. The tragic events of September 11, twelve years ago, are constant reminders what can happen in our country if we are not vigilant”<\/p>\n

Patriots Day will feature a “Freedom Walk” in downtown Jamestown at 6 p.m. to commemorate the events of that day and to honor our first responders in our community. We encourage people of all ages to walk the short distance with us, or ride if walking is not possible.<\/p>\n

The walk will start with the playing of the National Anthem and the pledge to the flag and then proceed around downtown. After the short walk the Vets Club will be serving a free will offering spaghetti supper to all present, followed by a short program.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 11, 2013) — The JSDC Board granted an option to buy two lots in the I-94 Business Park to Kal Patel.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s (Sept 11, 2013) Wayne Byers Show, on CSi Cable 2 the Jamestown\/Stutsman Developement Corporation, Marketing and Workforce Developer, Holly Miller said, the agreement gives Patel a six-month option to purchase lots located next to the current Stutsman Harley-Davidson building.<\/p>\n

She said Patel is looking for possible tenants, and if found Patel would purchase the lots and move ahead with the project.<\/p>\n

His $2,000 option cost is non-refundable if he does not purchase the lots.<\/p>\n

The JSDC also gave approval to a $10,000 Flex Pace interest buydown for an expansion to Reister Meats.<\/p>\n

Reister Meats operates a slaughter plant at the Reister family farm near Streeter and a retail meat market in Medina.<\/p>\n

The Flex Pace interest buydown reduces the interest expense on the loan and then is repaid to the JSDC after the term of the original loan.<\/p>\n

The JSDC also agreed to contract with KLJ Engineering for an updated strategic plan for the organization,at a cost of $3,000 plus travel costs incurred while meeting with local officials.<\/p>\n

The Jamestown\/Stutsman Development Corporation Board of Directors has approved a land purchase from the JSDC to Kost Materials, presently operating in Fargo.<\/p>\n

The business plans to operate a cement ready mix plant and aggregate gravel operation near Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Kost Materials is buying three lots, about 35 acres adjacent to the Cavendish Farms potato processing plant east of Jamestown, at a price of $7,500 per acre.<\/p>\n

Ms. Miller also pointed out that Jamestown will host the North Dakota Economic Development Association, Fall Conference October 28-30.<\/p>\n

She said about 70-80 individuals will be in Jamestown for the conference.<\/p>\n

Grand Forks, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — “Serve and Protect,” takes on a new meaning, as Law Enforcement Torch Run\u00ae volunteers donate their time to serve delicious food at Applebee\u2019s restaurants, all for a great cause.<\/p>\n

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics will conduct the 8th<\/sup> annual statewide “Tip A Cop” event at all Applebee\u2019s Neighborhood Grill & Bars, September 24 & 25, 2013 from 5-p.m., to 9-p.m. Local law enforcement personnel in Jamestown, Bismarck, Fargo, Dickinson, Grand Forks, Minot and Williston will be working dinner shifts collecting “tips” to help Special Olympics provide programs to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.<\/p>\n

The Law Enforcement Torch Run program is the largest grass-roots public awareness and fundraising program for Special Olympics throughout the world.<\/p>\n

The torch, which is the Flame of Hope, is part of all Special Olympics ceremonies, symbolizing the unlimited potential of the human spirit.<\/p>\n

Special Olympics North Dakota provides year-round programs of sports training, athletic competition, and health athlete initiatives for 1,400 children and adults with intellectural disabilities in North Dakota.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A federal judge has dismissed part of a lawsuit challenging a new North Dakota law that blocks abortions on the grounds of genetic defect or unwanted gender.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state’s sole abortion clinic in Fargo filed the lawsuit in June challenging the law and another new measure that bans abortion when a fetal heartbeat is detected.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Red River Women’s Clinic says the ban on abortions based on gender or genetic defects doesn’t affect the clinic because it doesn’t perform abortions for those reasons.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland on Monday granted the clinic’s request to drop that part of the lawsuit.<\/p>\n

WESTHOPE, N.D. (AP) – A Westhope man accused of killing another resident of the northern North Dakota city says he was carrying out the wishes of a friend who wanted to commit suicide but was unable to pull the trigger himself.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Forty-nine-year-old Timothy Mundt was charged in the February shooting death of 40-year-old Jessie Kirk.\u00a0 He pleaded guilty Wednesday to a lesser murder charge that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison rather than a life term.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Defense attorney William Hartl said in court that assisted suicide under North Dakota law carries only a maximum sentence of five years in prison but that his client didn’t want to put people through a trial.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Judge Michael Sturdevant sentenced Mundt to serve 12\u00a0 1\/2 years in prison.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A man accused of violating a protection order by transporting a juvenile from North Dakota to Iowa has been sentenced to federal prison.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 David Lilley, of Belcourt, pleaded guilty in May to interstate violation of a protection order and interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the 27-year-old Lilley stole a vehicle on Feb. 17 and took the juvenile from the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation to Iowa.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lilley was prohibited from having contact with the juvenile because of a tribal court order.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland sentenced Lilley to three years in prison and ordered him to pay back more than $1,400.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0RUGBY, N.D. (AP) – Two Rugby jail administrators have been placed on leave and the Heart of America Correctional Center is on probation.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An inmate escaped this summer, and another jumped from a moving transport vehicle several weeks later.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0Those incidents prompted a Department of Corrections audit this month.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Besides putting the jail on probation, the DOC placed jail administrator Mary Richard and security director Joey Cotton on paid leave for 30 days.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Steve Engen with the DOC says the agency often used the jail to house prisoners but pulled out all of its inmates at the end of August.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He says final findings of the security audit will be made official within 45 days and the facility will have to correct problems that were found in order to be re-certified.<\/p>\n

\u00a0GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Explicit rules against explicit dance moves sent students at a Grand Forks high school waltzing out of the gym Friday night.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Red River Principal Kris Arason says students are told at the beginning of every school year what kind of behavior is expected in class and at school activities. He says the dancing Friday night was inappropriate.
\nStudents were warned during the dance about moves mimicking one made infamous by singer Miley Cyrus during the recent televised MTV Video Music Awards.

The university’s foundation says Scheels All Sports has signed a letter of intent to buy the Beechcraft King Air B200. NDSU has been leasing the plane for roughly $320,000 a year from the privately run foundation since July 2007.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stan Kohn with the state Game and Fish Department says the number of broods and the average brood size both were down statewide because of poor reproduction last spring. He says factors include habitat loss and continuous wet weather.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Kohn says that even though pheasant numbers are down overall, there will be still be local areas with good populations.

NDSU coach Saul Phillips says his team’s upcoming schedule is one of the more challenging ones the program has faced. The Bison open the season with an exhibition game against Concordia Moorhead on October 30th. Viterbo comes to Fargo on November 8th for NDSU’s regular season opener.<\/p>\n

BALTIMORE (AP) – New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will miss the rest of the season after being placed on the disabled list yesterday with an ankle injury. The 39-year-old Jeter last played Saturday against Boston and started the year on the disabled list after breaking his left ankle in the 2012 playoffs. He returned to the DL twice more and played in only 17 games, batting .190 with one homer and seven RBIs.<\/p>\n

Fluker, casting yet another dark cloud over college sports. The other players were Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray and defensive lineman Maurice Couch, Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox and wide receiver Chad Bumphis. The report cited text messages and financial records of former Alabama defensive end Luther Davis and an unnamed NFL source who said Davis was a go-between for the players with NFL agents and financial advisers.<\/p>\n

David Gilliland’s spotter tells his crew that Logano’s team wanted Gilliland’s spot on the track “and they said they’d probably be able to help us in the future.” A short time later, Logano passed Gilliland on a restart and finished 22nd, one spot ahead of Gilliland and good enough for a berth in the Chase field.<\/p>\n

There also have been reports that Hammami had a falling out with al-Shabab’s top leader, who allegedly ordered the American killed.
