Fremont, Neb (UJ)\u00a0The UJ football team opened the GPAC schedule on Sat against Midland Univ. The Jimmies fell behind 17-3 at the half and the Warriors went on to a 38-17 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n

Trailing 10-0 after the first quarter, UJ got on the board with a 31-yard field goal by Aanon Peterson<\/a>. After each team had drives that ended in a punt, Midland engineered a seven play, 69-yard scoring drive to extend the lead to 17-3 with under a minute left before halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UJ’s first drive of the second half resulted in a touchdown as Ty Monson<\/a> threw a 34-yard scoring pass to Ryan Collins<\/a>, capping off a 10-play drive covering 80 yards. It was the first career touchdown pass for Monson, who came into the game on the Jimmies’ second series of the game after an injury to Nick Martinez<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Midland found the end zone on two of their next three possessions and opened up a 31-10 lead with 14:45 remaining. Monson completed five straight passes to help lead Jamestown to its second touchdown of the game, a five-yard reception by Dawson Schmidt<\/a>. Peterson’s extra point attempt was good and UJ was down 31-17 with just under 11 minutes left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a missed 40-yard field goal attempt, the Jimmies took over at their own 24-yard line. Monson was intercepted on a second down pass by Zane Stenger and Midland had the ball on the Jamestown 30-yard line. The Warriors ran 2:08 off the clock as Tyson Denkert carried the ball in from eight yards out to make it 38-17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monson finished 14-of-28 passing for 168 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. Martinez was 2-for-3 for 32 yards on the first drive. UJ was held to 30 yards rushing after gaining 209 in the season opener against VCSU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Micah Madyun<\/a> had four catches for 41 yards and Collins ended with three grabs for 54 yards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parker Chaffee<\/a>, Mason Parker<\/a>, and Caleb Ritter<\/a> each had six total tackles to lead the defense. Ezra Belingheri<\/a> recorded a sack while Ritter and Jed Rantz<\/a> combined for another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
