UJ: Devin Zielger’s 21-yard touchdown run with 1:41 remaining proved to be the difference as Concordia (Neb.) University handed the University of Jamestown football team its third straight defeat Saturday afternoon, 27-23 at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ziegler ran for 124 yards on 24 carries and found the endzone three times for the Bulldogs (1-1, 1-1 GPAC), who trailed 17-7 at the half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Jimmies opened the game with a 75-yard scoring drive covering 13 plays as Ty Monson<\/a> found Ryan Collins<\/a> for a nine-yard touchdown pass at the 7:55 mark. Aanon Peterson<\/a>‘s extra point made it 7-0 in favor of Jamestown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CUNE responded with a touchdown drive of their own with Ziegler rushing in from one yard out, tying the game at 7-7 with 5:17 in the first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Monson engineered another trip to the end zone, this time finding Colton Schumacher<\/a> on a 14-yard pass at 14:01 of the first half. The second Jamestown scoring drive went 65 yards over 12 plays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peterson made a 30-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to push UJ’s lead to 17-7 going into halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ziegler scored on a five yard run early in the third quarter, but the extra point attempt was no good and the Jimmies held on to a four-point lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Peterson connected on his second field goal of the game at the 6:01 mark of the third to put Jamestown ahead 20-13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n DJ McGarvie scored on a one-yard quarterback keeper as the Bulldogs tied the game with just over four minutes left in the third quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The score remained tied until Peterson made good on his third field goal attempt of the game, a 25-yarder, at 5:09 of the fourth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n CUNE chewed up 3:28 of game time on its final scoring drive, with Ziegler carrying the ball on seven of nine plays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n With two timeouts and 1:35 remaining, Monson and the Jimmies took over at their own 32-yard line. A 21-yard completion to Carlos Julian<\/a> and a pair of catches by Micah Madyun<\/a> gained another 22 yards to help UJ get down to the Bulldogs’ 25 yard line. On 4th-and-3, Monson completed a seven-yard pass to Dawson Schmidt<\/a> to get down to the CUNE 18 with seven seconds left. Following the final Jamestown timeout, Monson was sacked by Kyle Sterup to end the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Monson finished 32-of-51 passing for 343 yards and two touchdowns. Madyun had 11 catches for 81 yards and Collins and Isaiah Roebuck<\/a> each hauled in six passes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Mason Parker<\/a> had a team-high seven tackles while David Diaz<\/a> and Parker Chaffee<\/a> were each in on six stops. Keagan Schiele<\/a> and Hershell Jefferson<\/a> both had interceptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n UJ outgained CUNE 374-319 and ran 83 offensive plays to Concordia’s 48. Time of possession was also hugely in favor of the Jimmies, 42:59 to 17:01.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jamestown is on the road next Saturday at Hastings (Neb.)
