University 24-13 Saturday afternoon at Charlotte &amp; Gordon Hansen Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HOW IT HAPPENED<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Both teams had two unsuccessful scoring drives in the first quarter, with each of Jamestown&#8217;s ending in an interception while Mount Marty&#8217;s ended in a punt and a turnover on downs.<\/li><li>The Lancers turned an interception into a field goal, as Maxwell Welch connected from 29 yards out to give the visitors a 3-0 lead with 12:32 remaining in the first half.<\/li><li>Jamestown took over at their own 25-yard line following a touchback, and on the first play from scrimmage,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/julian_carlos_ta4s\">Carlos Julian<\/a>&nbsp;took a handoff 75 yards to the end zone.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/peterson_aanon_nmvg\">Aanon Peterson<\/a>&#8216;s extra point made it 7-3 with 12:19 to play in the half.<\/li><li>Welch&#8217;s second field goal of the quarter, a 35-yarder, made it a 7-6 game at the 4:09 mark.<\/li><li>UJ wasted little time in answering the Mount Marty field goal as they covered 90 yards in 100 seconds on four plays.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/monson_ty_3eg7\">Ty Monson<\/a>&nbsp;found Julian on a 67-yard pass play, and two plays later, tossed a 25-yard pass to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/roebuck_isaiah_9z8e\">Isaiah Roebuck<\/a>&nbsp;to give the Jimmies a 14-6 lead after the extra point by Peterson.<\/li><li>Jamestown opened the second half with a ten-play, 71-yard drive that resulted in a ten-yard touchdown run by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/hammett_zach_t7vq\">Zachariah Hammett<\/a>, putting UJ ahead 21-6.<\/li><li>Mount Marty put together a scoring drive of ten plays that was capped off by Ken Gay&#8217;s 20-yard pass to Jonah Miyazawa to again make it a one-score game at 21-13 with 11:17 remaining.<\/li><li>The Jimmies began the next drive at their own 36-yard line and chewed up nearly seven minutes of clock time before Peterson made a 28-yard field goal on fourth-and-three at the 4:19 mark. Mount Marty was called for an offsides penalty, resulting in a five-yard gain and a new set of downs.<\/li><li>Jamestown ran off another 71 seconds of game time and forced the Lancers to use their final two timeouts before Peterson made a 28-yard field goal with 3:08 left.<\/li><li>Mount Marty got down to the Jimmie 28-yard line on a 16-yard pass from Gay to Rex Ryken, but&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/chaffee_parker_qi57\">Parker Chaffee<\/a>&nbsp;knocked the ball loose and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/parker_mason_7p5u\">Mason Parker<\/a>&nbsp;recovered at the UJ 30 with 1:54 remaining.<\/li><li>Three kneeldowns by Monson finished out the game and Jamestown came away with the win.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FOR THE JIMMIES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Hammett had 80 yards rushing on 14 carries while Julian finished with 79 yards on six carries.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/schumacher_colton_r3tx\">Colton Schumacher<\/a>&nbsp;caught four passes for 35 yards.<\/li><li>Monson completed 11 of 22 passes for 159 yards, including a long of 67 yard to Julian.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/belingheri_ezra_wkb4\">Ezra Belingheri<\/a>&nbsp;posted nine tackles and was joined by Chaffee, Parker, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/rantz_jed_goip\">Jed Rantz<\/a>&nbsp;with five solo tackles each.<\/li><li>Rantz,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/jefferson_hershell_2u15\">Hershell Jefferson<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/fball\/2023-24\/bios\/carlblom_joey_uhhg\">Joey Carlblom<\/a>&nbsp;were credited with a pass breakup.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FOR THE LANCERS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Gay completed 22 of 34 passes for 201 yards and added 68 yards rushing on 14 carries.<\/li><li>Miyazawa led all receivers with eight catches for 80 yards.<\/li><li>James Brinsley had eight solo tackles and Cameron Middleton had two sacks, an interception, and six total tackles.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UP NEXT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Jamestown (2-4, 2-3 GPAC) closes out its three-game homestand on October 14 against Dordt (Iowa) University at 1 p.m.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UJ &#8211; The University of Jamestown football team won its second straight game, defeating Mount Marty (S.D.)
