{"id":277019,"date":"2023-10-30T09:38:11","date_gmt":"2023-10-30T14:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=277019"},"modified":"2023-10-30T09:38:11","modified_gmt":"2023-10-30T14:38:11","slug":"jimmies-beaten-by-northwestern-in-conference-showdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=277019","title":{"rendered":"Jimmies Beaten By Northwestern In Conference Showdown"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>UJ &#8211; The 12<sup>th<\/sup>-ranked University of Jamestown women&#8217;s volleyball team lost for the first time at Harold Newman Arena this season, as No. 1 Northwestern (Iowa) College came away with a four set victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE BASICS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><u>Final Score:<\/u><\/em>&nbsp;Northwestern 3, Jamestown 1 (25-21, 26-24, 20-25, 25-18)<br><em><u>Records:<\/u>&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;Jamestown 21-8 (13-2 GPAC), Northwestern 22-2 (13-2 GPAC)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HOW IT HAPPENED<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Raiders opened with an 8-1 lead, but the Jimmies went on a 4-0 run to close the gap to 9-6.<\/li><li>NWC eventually built a 19-11 advantage as Jamestown had only managed to put multiple-point runs together twice up to that point.<\/li><li>An attack error by NWC started a 3-0 run for UJ, and six of the next seven points went to the Jimmies to make it 20-17.<\/li><li>The Raiders kept at least a three-point lead until closing out the set 25-21.<\/li><li>Jamestown led 16-11 after an ace by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wvball\/2023-24\/bios\/zieske_aleah_ffwd\">Aleah Zieske<\/a>, only to have NWC tally eight points in a row to retake a 19-16 edge.<\/li><li>The Jimmies went back in front 21-20 after&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wvball\/2023-24\/bios\/buddenhagen_tenley_afmo\">Tenley Buddenhagen<\/a>&#8216;s ace, but the Raiders posted back-to-back points to keep the pressure on the home team.<\/li><li>NWC went up 2-0 in the match after back-to-back kills sealed a 26-24 victory.<\/li><li>Set three went back and forth with neither team leading by more than three until Zieske&#8217;s kill made it 13-10.<\/li><li>The Raiders were able to get as close as 18-18, but Jamestown finished the set on a 7-2 run to force a fourth set.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wvball\/2023-24\/bios\/sherman_logan_aipi\">Logan Sherman<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wvball\/2023-24\/bios\/olson_lexi_btcl\">Lexi Olson<\/a>&nbsp;each had kills to give the Jimmies a 7-4 edge early in the fourth, however the Raiders showed their resolve.<\/li><li>A 4-0 run put the visitors back in the lead, then after UJ tied the score following an attack error, NWC won three in a row and essentially turned the momentum in their favor.<\/li><li>Jamestown got within 21-18 after a kill by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wvball\/2023-24\/bios\/johnson_darienne_bgvh\">Darienne Johnson<\/a>, but the Raiders finished the match by taking the final four points.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FOR THE JIMMIES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Zieske posted 24 kills and 13 digs.<\/li><li>Sherman finished with 11 kills and hit .375 for the match.<\/li><li>Johnson hit a team-best .400 with seven kills.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wvball\/2023-24\/bios\/oswald_paige_u8a8\">Paige Oswald<\/a>&nbsp;(22 assists, 12 digs) and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wvball\/2023-24\/bios\/bertsch_lily_4q5i\">Lily Bertsch<\/a>&nbsp;(22 assists, 11 digs) both had double-doubles.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wvball\/2023-24\/bios\/holen_ellie_inc1\">Ellie Holen<\/a>&nbsp;tied a career-high with 47 digs, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wvball\/2023-24\/bios\/hegerle_grace_z5aj\">Grace Hegerle<\/a>&nbsp;had her second straight match with 20+ digs, finishing with 23.<\/li><li>Olson had five total blocks.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UP NEXT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Jamestown ends the regular season on October 31 with a home match against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) at 7:30 p.m.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UJ &#8211; The 12th-ranked University of Jamestown women&#8217;s volleyball team lost for the first time at Harold Newman Arena this season, as No. 1 Northwestern (Iowa) College came away with a four set victory.
