University 77-57 Friday evening at Harold Newman Arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE BASICS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><u>Final Score:<\/u><\/em>&nbsp;Jamestown 77, VCSU 57<br><em><u>Records:<\/u><\/em>&nbsp;Jamestown 1-0, VCSU 0-1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HOW IT HAPPENED<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Trailing 6-3 five minutes in, UJ finished the quarter on a 14-5 run to lead 17-11 after one.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wbkb\/2023-24\/bios\/busek_kate_52hb\">Kate Busek<\/a>&nbsp;led Jamestown with five points while&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wbkb\/2023-24\/bios\/rodakowski_audrey_xxk3\">Audrey Rodakowski<\/a>&nbsp;added four.<\/li><li>Rodakowski had the last Jimmie basket in the first quarter and scored the first basket of the second, then&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wbkb\/2023-24\/bios\/lenz_sarah_igav\">Sarah Lenz<\/a>&nbsp;drained a three-pointer and made another jumper inside the arc to give Jamestown a 24-11 lead.<\/li><li>The largest lead of the half for UJ came after&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wbkb\/2023-24\/bios\/oswald_megan_7l0d\">Megan Oswald<\/a>&nbsp;scored to make it 29-13 at the 5:38 mark, and again following a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wbkb\/2023-24\/bios\/hagel_hannah_h0w5\">Hannah Hagel<\/a>&nbsp;layup a minute later.<\/li><li>VCSU got as close as 11 but a Lenz three-pointer gave the Jimmies a 38-22 halftime lead. Lenz finished the quarter with 11 points and 14 in the half.<\/li><li>After shooting 47 percent in the second quarter, Jamestown improved that mark to 50 percent in the third quarter.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wbkb\/2023-24\/bios\/cordes_kate_6opm\">Kate Cordes<\/a>&nbsp;had the hot hand for the Jimmies in the third, scoring 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting (3-of-3 from three-point range).<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wbkb\/2023-24\/bios\/martinson_jailyn_d2ep\">Jailyn Martinson<\/a>&nbsp;gave Jamestown a 21-point lead when she scored at the 6:31 mark, then made another basket just under a minute later to extend the lead to 49-26.<\/li><li>Rodakowski opened the fourth quarter with a bucket to give the Jimmies their largest lead of the night at 63-35.<\/li><li>VCSU put together a 16-3 run over a span of 3:21 but got no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.<\/li><li>Nine of UJ&#8217;s 16 fourth-quarter points came from reserves, including six by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/wbkb\/2023-24\/bios\/oberlander_jessica_0jaj\">Jessica Oberlander<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FOR THE JIMMIES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Lenz had a game-high 16 points off the bench, including four three-pointers.<\/li><li>Cordes also made four threes on her way to 14 points.<\/li><li>Rodakowski was the other Jimmie in double figures with 11 points.<\/li><li>Tower had eight rebounds and along with Busek passed out five assists.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FOR THE VIKINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ashlyn Diemert led VCSU with 14 points and five rebounds.<\/li><li>Hailey Roberts (12) and Ellie Braaten (11) were also in double figures.<\/li><li>Ellie Powell also grabbed five rebounds.,<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UP NEXT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Jimmies host Mayville State (N.D.) on November 2 at 6 p.m. &nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UJ &#8211; The University of Jamestown women&#8217;s basketball team won its seventh straight season opener, defeating Valley City State (N.D.)
