On 10\/30\/2023 at around 9:00 pm CT, a North Dakota Highway Patrol vehicle
was struck by a semi trailer. A trooper was providing traffic control near a construction zone
that had ice covered roadways, on I-94, near mile marker 102, in the eastbound lane. The
roadway had been closed for a semi that jackknifed across it. The roadway was reopened for
the left lane only. The trooper was directing traffic with his vehicle in the right lane to shift
traffic to the left. There was another trooper to the rear of the struck trooper\u2019s vehicle,
providing advanced warning. The semi lost control when changing lanes. The trailer swayed
to the right. The rear of the trailer hit the rear of the trooper\u2019s patrol car and slid up the side.
There was moderate damage along the side to include the front push bumper being removed.
The trooper was seated in the vehicle, wearing a seat belt and not injured. The semi stopped
briefly, then left the scene. Another trooper was able to leave his traffic control position and
located the semi a short time later. The driver of the semi was cited for leaving the scene of a
reportable crash, failure to give immediate notice of a reportable crash, failure to yield to an
