{"id":279458,"date":"2024-01-22T09:28:17","date_gmt":"2024-01-22T15:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=279458"},"modified":"2024-01-22T09:28:18","modified_gmt":"2024-01-22T15:28:18","slug":"minnesota-wild-5-over-carolina-hurricanes-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=279458","title":{"rendered":"Minnesota Wild 5 over Carolina Hurricanes 2"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>RALEIGH, N.C. &#8212;<\/strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/kirill-kaprizov-8478864\">Kirill Kaprizov<\/a>&nbsp;scored a hat trick to help the Minnesota Wild defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 at PNC Arena on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kaprizov has five goals in his past two games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOf course, when you score more goals, it\u2019s easy to win,&#8221; Kaprizov said. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter if it\u2019s me or other guys [who] score goals too. It\u2019s easy for us to play like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/joel-eriksson-ek-8478493\">Joel Eriksson Ek<\/a>&nbsp;scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and had two assists, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/filip-gustavsson-8479406\">Filip Gustavsson<\/a>&nbsp;made 40 saves for the Wild (20-21-5), who have won three of their past four games, including a 6-4 win against the Florida Panthers on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t perfect. You never play a perfect game,\u201d Minnesota coach John Hynes said. \u201cI think there\u2019s lots of elements in the last two games that we want to see that give us a chance to win every night.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/martin-necas-8480039\">Martin Necas<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/michael-bunting-8478047\">Michael Bunting<\/a>&nbsp;scored for the Hurricanes (25-15-5), who have lost two of their past three.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/antti-raanta-8477293\">Antti Raanta<\/a>&nbsp;made 14 saves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a frustrating game when you lose like that,\u201d Carolina coach Rod Brind\u2019Amour said. &nbsp;\u201cThe first period was as good as you could do it. We needed to get more out of it. That\u2019s how it goes sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Necas scored on a wrist shot from the left face-off circle to make it 1-0 at 14:02 of the first period. After&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/dmitry-orlov-8475200\">Dmitry Orlov<\/a>&nbsp;held in a Minnesota clearing attempt at the blue line,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/stefan-noesen-8476474\">Stefan Noesen<\/a>&nbsp;passed to Necas to set up the goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kaprizov tipped&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/alex-goligoski-8471274\">Alex Goligoski<\/a>\u2019s shot from the left point to tie the game 1-1 at 17:43.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal came on Minnesota\u2019s second shot of the game. The Wild were outshot 18-3 in the first period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat big tip got us going, [gave us] a little belief, and that was huge going into the second with a 1-1 game,\u201d Minnesota forward\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/marcus-foligno-8475220\">Marcus Foligno<\/a>\u00a0said. \u201cHe\u2019s playing great, and we have to start thinking about [taking] care of the defensive side and not just hope Kirill is going to get his looks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kaprizov spun to his forehand in the slot and scored on a wrist shot through traffic to give Minnesota a 2-1 lead at 6:18 of the second period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI just tried shooting. Sometimes we have chances and don\u2019t shoot on the net,\u201d Kaprizov said. \u201cI feel like Carolina always plays a pretty tight game and doesn\u2019t give [a lot] of shots.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bunting tied it at 2-2 with a short-side wrist shot from the left circle at 8:17 of the third period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe weren\u2019t great in the third, and then we tie it up,\u201d Brind\u2019Amour said. \u201cWe had a couple mental errors and they made you pay. Good for them, they did what they needed to do. We didn\u2019t execute.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eriksson Ek scored on his own rebound after a centering pass from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/jonas-brodin-8476463\">Jonas Brodin<\/a>&nbsp;for a 3-2 lead at 9:32.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kaprizov scored an empty-net goal at 17:59 to make it 4-2, after&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/brock-faber-8482122\">Brock Faber<\/a>&nbsp;blocked a shot by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/brent-burns-8470613\">Brent Burns<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re realizing what we need at this time of the year,\u201d Foligno said. \u201cAll our star guys were getting down and bending one knee when Burns and those guys were shooting. It\u2019s huge. It fires everyone up. It\u2019s just winning hockey.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/jake-middleton-8478136\">Jake Middleton<\/a>&nbsp;scored into the empty net at 19:04 for the 5-2 final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey were selling out blocking shots, and their goalie played an unreal game,\u201d Hurricanes forward&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/sebastian-aho-8478427\">Sebastian Aho<\/a>&nbsp;said. \u201cOur third period wasn\u2019t good enough, but other than that, I thought the way we played was really good.
