{"id":279537,"date":"2024-01-24T08:56:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T14:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=279537"},"modified":"2024-01-25T09:03:38","modified_gmt":"2024-01-25T15:03:38","slug":"minnesota-wild-5-washington-capitals-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=279537","title":{"rendered":"Minnesota Wild 5, Washington Capitals 3"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>St. Paul, Minnesota &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/marcus-johansson-8475149\">Marcus Johansson<\/a>\u00a0scored twice for the Minnesota Wild in a 5-3 win against the Washington Capitals at Xcel Energy Center on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/joel-eriksson-ek-8478493\">Joel Eriksson Ek<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/marcus-foligno-8475220\">Marcus Foligno<\/a>&nbsp;each had a goal and an assist for the Wild (21-21-5), who have won three in a row and four of their past five (4-1-0).&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/filip-gustavsson-8479406\">Filip Gustavsson<\/a>&nbsp;made 30 saves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI really liked the mindset that we came home with coming off the road, and the style of game that we need to be able to play,\u201d Minnesota coach John Hynes said. \u201cAnd just the consistency of it was important for us to be able to get to that game tonight, and I thought we did a pretty good job of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/anthony-mantha-8477511\">Anthony Mantha<\/a>&nbsp;scored twice, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/t-j-oshie-8471698\">T.J. Oshie<\/a>&nbsp;also scored for the Capitals (22-17-6), who have lost two straight.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/darcy-kuemper-8475311\">Darcy Kuemper<\/a>&nbsp;made 25 saves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe certainly can help ourselves and try to start [with] or get the first goal,\u201d Washington coach Spencer Carbery said. \u201cWe&#8217;ve talked about that all year. It&#8217;s really important to us, [a] low-scoring team and a team that doesn&#8217;t score a bunch 5-on-5, that puts us in a really difficult spot right out of the gate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/brock-faber-8482122\">Brock Faber<\/a>&nbsp;gave the Wild a 1-0 lead at 1:37 of the first period on a backdoor rebound off a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/mats-zuccarello-8475692\">Mats Zuccarello<\/a>&nbsp;shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foligno extended it to 2-0 at 4:42, scoring into the open net off a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/matt-boldy-8481557\">Matt Boldy<\/a>&nbsp;shot that was high and wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think everyone kept staking around and I was kind of alone, and I just thought, \u2018I have time,\u2019\u201d Foligno said. \u201cI don\u2019t think \u2018Kuemps\u2019 really saw it. I think too much traffic in front of him, and he\u2019s kind of looking at Boldy, like maybe it was up in the air or something. And I was able to drop it, and it did stick a little bit; it didn\u2019t go in. I was able to whack in to get it in before it crossed the goal line.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johansson pushed it to 3-0 at 6:28 of the second period after moving the puck through the neutral zone and scoring on a wrist shot from the left face-off dot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mantha cut it to 3-1 at 10:00 with a tip-in off an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/evgeny-kuznetsov-8475744\">Evgeny Kuznetsov<\/a>&nbsp;pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eriksson Ek made it 4-1 at 1:37 of the third period on a partial breakaway with a wrist shot from the slot. It was his 20th goal of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019re not giving the other team too many easy chances,\u201d Eriksson Ek said. \u201cI think the games before that we maybe gave up a little bit too much. \u2026 Now they have to work for it more, so it\u2019s just a more solid game for us right now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johansson extended it to 5-1 at 13:39, scoring with a snap shot from the right circle after Kuemper made a toe save on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/pat-maroon-8474034\">Pat Maroon<\/a>&nbsp;down low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oshie cut it to 5-2 at 17:03 on the power play, tipping in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/john-carlson-8474590\">John Carlson<\/a>&nbsp;shot from the blue line for his sixth goal in his past six games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mantha scored on a backhand at 18:24 for the 5-3 final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard chasing,\u201d Mantha said. \u201cThat\u2019s not what you want. I think we knew we had to step up today [and] unfortunately we didn\u2019t really do it. The good news is we get 20 hours and we\u2019re back at it.
