{"id":280578,"date":"2024-03-11T10:38:37","date_gmt":"2024-03-11T15:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=280578"},"modified":"2024-03-11T10:38:59","modified_gmt":"2024-03-11T15:38:59","slug":"vcsu-vikings-wrap-up-florida-spring-break-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=280578","title":{"rendered":"VCSU Vikings Wrap Up Florida Spring Break Trip"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>AUBURNDALE, FLA. \u2013 The Valley City State baseball team completed it spring road trip to Florida with a pair of losses during a doubleheader against Northwestern College on Saturday.<br>\u00a0<br>Northwestern erupted for 21 hits and 18 runs in game one, and then won a pitcher&#8217;s duel in game two as the Red Raiders swept the doubleheader by scores of 18-1 and 4-0.<br>\u00a0<br>VCSU is now 8-13 overall and finishes its spring trip with a 4-7 record during 11 games in Florida.<br>\u00a0<br>Up next: The Vikings begin conference play with a four-game road series at preseason conference favorite Bellevue University. The Bruins were ranked No. 7 in the nation in the NAIA&#8217;s Preseason Top 25 Poll. The Vikings and Bruins will play doubleheaders March 15 and 16 in Bellevue, Neb.<br>\u00a0<br><strong>Northwestern 18, VCSU 1<\/strong><br>Northwestern&#8217;s offense carried game one as the Red Raiders collected 21 total hits in the 7-inning game.<br>\u00a0<br>Both teams plated a single run in the first inning with VCSU&#8217;s\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/kaden-rozdeba\/3386\">Kaden Rozdeba<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0tying the game at 1-1 with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Northwestern took control with an 8-run outburst in the third inning.<br>\u00a0<br>VCSU was limited to three total hits coming from\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/jaden-babiuk\/3365\">Jaden Babiuk<\/a><\/dfn>,\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/hunter-logan\/3691\">Hunter Logan<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0and Rozdeba.<br>\u00a0<br><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/jacob-marx\/3605\">Jacob Marx<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0took the loss, working 2 1\/3 innings on the mound to start the game.\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/riley-resnick\/3385\">Riley Resnick<\/a><\/dfn>,\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/brendan-berk\/3592\">Brendan Berk<\/a><\/dfn>,\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/jay-mendez\/3606\">Jay Mendez<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0and\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/keeton-clark\/3367\">Keeton Clark<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0all pitched in relief.<br>\u00a0<br><strong>Northwestern 4, VCSU 0<\/strong><br>The teams settled into a pitcher&#8217;s duel in game two with just 8 total hits in Northwestern&#8217;s 4-0 win. The Red Raiders scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the first inning off VCSU starter\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/jacob-hendrickson\/3599\">Jacob Hendrickson<\/a><\/dfn>.\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/takao-cookson\/3594\">Takao Cookson<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0came on in relief and shut Northwestern down over the final 5 1\/3 innings, but the Viking offense was kept quiet by Northwestern pitcher Brad Tornow.<br>\u00a0<br>Tornow pitched a complete-game shutout, giving up just two hits and striking out 16.<br>\u00a0<br>VCSU&#8217;s two hits came from\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/tory-nelson\/3381\">Tory Nelson<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0and\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/kaden-rozdeba\/3386\">Kaden Rozdeba<\/a><\/dfn>.<br>\u00a0<br>Cookson pitched 5 1\/3 shutout innings for VCSU, scattering three hits and striking out six.<br>\u00a0<br><strong>Rochester 14, VCSU 2 (Friday)<\/strong><br>Both teams managed six hits in the game, but Rochester took advantage of free bases\u00a0to push across 14 runs in a 14-2 victory. The game ended after eight innings due to run rule.<br>\u00a0<br>VCSU pitchers combined to walk 13 batters and hit 3 batters. Eight of those runners would eventually score for Rochester.<br>\u00a0<br>Six different Vikings had one hit each, including a pinch-hit RBI single by\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/kaden-rozdeba\/3386\">Kaden Rozdeba<\/a><\/dfn>.\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/jamel-chabot\/3677\">Jamel Chabot<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0had a double for VCSU&#8217;s only extra-base hit.<br>\u00a0<br><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/kahlil-tilbury\/3614\">Kahlil Tilbury<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0took the loss after starting on the mound. Tilbury went 2 2\/3 innings, giving up three hits and five runs.
