News Sept 23, 2013) \u00a0&#8211; In an ongoing effort to end the problem of impaired driving, North Dakota law enforcement agencies are continuing unified enhanced<br \/>\nenforcement.\u00a0 The Southeast Jamestown Regional DUI Task Force is announcing<br \/>\nthat there will be an enhanced law enforcement presence and additional law<br \/>\nenforcement officers on rural, city and state roads throughout North Dakota<br \/>\nfor the entire month of October.<\/p>\n<p>Highway Patrol Captain, Bryan Niewind says, &#8220;North Dakota recently enacted a law to strengthen DUI penalties in the state&#8221;.\u00a0 The bill doubles fines for drinking and driving and increases potential jail time.<br \/>\nOne of its biggest changes is cracking down on multiple offenders including greatly increased jail time and possible felony convictions.\u00a0 It also makes refusing a chemical test a crime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement officials believe that any number of fatalities due to impaired driving is too high.\u00a0 The success of the enforcement campaigns encourages the Southeast Jamestown Regional Task Force to continue their work to keep North Dakota drivers safe.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Don Fiebinger of the \u00a0Barnes County Sheriff\u2019s Department says, &#8220;Even one life lost to impaired driving is too many, and we take the task of getting that number down to zero very seriously.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Funding for this enhanced enforcement is provided through the North Dakota<br \/>\nDepartment of Transportation (NDDOT).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to increased enforcement efforts, the Southeast Jamestown<br \/>\nRegional Task Force has worked to enhance community awareness of impaired<br \/>\ndriving through the NDDOT\u2019s TODD campaign.\u00a0 TODD stands for &#8220;To Designate a<br \/>\nDriver&#8221; and is a web, print, radio and television campaign aimed at<br \/>\nspreading information about DUI laws, enforcement and prevention.<br \/>\nSpecifically, TODD provides a number of solutions for individuals and<br \/>\nencourages them to find their safe rides home before going out.\u00a0 Drivers<br \/>\nare encouraged to check out *www.dontforgettodd.com* for more information.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The purpose of these enforcement periods is two-fold,&#8221; said Dana<br \/>\nRustabakke, Officer Valley City Police Department, &#8220;They not only assist<br \/>\nlaw enforcement in tracking down dangerous drivers, but they encourage all<br \/>\ndrivers to be more aware of their driving and make responsible decisions to<br \/>\nnot drink and drive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Southeast Jamestown DUI Task Force includes the following agencies:<br \/>\nNDHP, Foster, Griggs, Stutsman, McIntosh, Barnes and LaMoure County<br \/>\nSheriff\u2019s Departments, Carrington, Jamestown, Valley City, Kulm and Oakes<br \/>\nPolice Departments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V.
