{"id":281469,"date":"2024-04-15T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-15T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=281469"},"modified":"2024-04-16T14:35:27","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T19:35:27","slug":"uj-rallies-in-extras-to-hand-midland-first-conf-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=281469","title":{"rendered":"UJ Rallies in Extras To Hand Midland First Conf Loss"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>FREMONT, Neb.\u2014<\/strong>After falling 15-2 in five innings against No. 13 Midland University in game one of Saturday afternoon&#8217;s doubleheader, the University of Jamestown softball team rallied for a 3-1 nine-inning win in the second game to hand the Warriors their first loss in conference play this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE BASICS<\/strong><br><strong>SCORES<\/strong>: #13 Midland 15, Jamestown 2 (5 innings); Jamestown 3, #13 Midland 1 (9 innings)<br><strong>LOCATION<\/strong>: Schilke Fields \/ Fremont, Neb.<br><strong>RECORDS<\/strong>: Jamestown 23-12 (7-7 GPAC); #13 Midland 33-5 (11-1 GPAC)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Midland got to Jimmie starter\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/sball\/2023-24\/bios\/blair_abby_svw5\">Abby Blair<\/a>\u00a0(8-6) for four runs on six hits in the first inning, and she lasted one-third of an inning before\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/sball\/2023-24\/bios\/halsey_sunny_7wp0\">Sunny Halsey<\/a>\u00a0came on in relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/sball\/2023-24\/bios\/turin_gentrey_7v8n\">Gentrey Turin<\/a>&#8216;s two-run double in the top of the second scored\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/sball\/2023-24\/bios\/battistoni_ally_03j0\">Ally Battistoni<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/sball\/2023-24\/bios\/spaeth_maddie_c1ex\">Maddie Spaeth<\/a>\u00a0to cut Midland&#8217;s lead in half, but that would be the only scoring for the Jimmies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Warriors tacked on another run in the bottom of the second to make it 5-2, and the score stayed the same until the bottom of the fourth. Midland broke out for 10 runs on seven hits against a pair of UJ pitchers and ended the game via the run rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jamestown held on to a slim 1-0 lead entering the bottom of the seventh, but the Warriors scored an unearned run to send the game to extra innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/sball\/2023-24\/bios\/martinez_samarah_r4nw\">Samarah Martinez<\/a>\u00a0doubled with two outs in the top of the ninth to score\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/sball\/2023-24\/bios\/turin_gentrey_7v8n\">Gentrey Turin<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/sball\/2023-24\/bios\/spaeth_maddie_c1ex\">Maddie Spaeth<\/a>, and the Jimmies came away with a 3-1 win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the seventh, the game&#8217;s only run came in the top of the third. Turin led off the inning with a walk and took second base on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/sball\/2023-24\/bios\/gregg_trinity_5mds\">Trinity Gregg<\/a>&#8216;s sacrifice bunt. A passed ball moved Turin to third base, and one out later,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/sball\/2023-24\/bios\/quintanilla_kayla_ampz\">Kayla Quintanilla<\/a>\u00a0doubled to right center as Turin easily came home to make it 1-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Midland got the leadoff batter on in the bottom of the seventh as Matti Reiling singled to right field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jayci Reimers followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Reiling to second base, but the Jimmies had left third base uncovered and Reiling took the extra base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With one out and a runner at third, UJ pitcher\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/sball\/2023-24\/bios\/ransome_hope_h6na\">Hope Ransome<\/a>\u00a0got Halle Meyer to pop out to Turin at second for out number two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ariyana Crafton drew a walk to put runners on the corners for Midland&#8217;s leadoff hitter, Emily Prai. While Crafton stole second base, Quintanilla tried to catch Reiling a few steps off the bag at third, but her throw was off-target and went into the outfield. Reiling came home with the tying run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ransome (9-4) pitched her best game of the season since firing a two-hit shutout against Tabor (Kan.) on March 4 in Tucson, Ariz., going all nine innings while giving up just one unearned run. She allowed four hits, walked four, and struck out eight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gregg, Martinez, and Quintanilla\u2014the first three hitters in the UJ lineup\u2014each had two hits and combined to drive in all three Jimmie runs.
