That changed Thursday evening as UJ rallied for a 5-4 win in extra innings over Hastings (Neb.) College, adding to Jamestown&#8217;s 4-1 and 6-5 victories earlier in the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The teams were scheduled to play doubleheaders Friday and Saturday in Jamestown but with the threat of rain looming this weekend, agreed to play three seven-inning games on Thursday. The fourth game of the series is tentatively scheduled for Friday at 12 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE BASICS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>SCORES<\/strong>: Jamestown 4, Hastings 1; Jamestown 6, Hastings 5; Jamestown 5, Hastings 4 (8 innings)<\/li><li><strong>LOCATION<\/strong>: Jack Brown Stadium \/ Jamestown, N.D.<\/li><li><strong>RECORDS<\/strong>: Jamestown 28-17 (14-13 GPAC); Hastings 14-35 (5-22 GPAC)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/burke_chase_w6pv\">Chase Burke<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/singleton_jordan_6pgy\">Jordan Singleton<\/a>&nbsp;each homered and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/liestman_avery_um8q\">Avery Liestman<\/a>&nbsp;pitched 5 2\/3 solid innings as the Jimmies began the day with a 4-1 victory.<\/li><li>Burke&#8217;s homer came after a single by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/okamoto_riki_cga0\">Riki Okamoto<\/a>&nbsp;and staked UJ to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third.<\/li><li>After the Broncos countered with a solo home run by Jared Delgado to begin the fourth, Jamestown got even in the bottom half.<\/li><li>With&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/swennumson_ben_svjc\">Ben Swennumson<\/a>&nbsp;on third and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/roebuck_isaiah_c1v1\">Isaiah Roebuck<\/a>&nbsp;at second,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/nelson_jett_broq\">Jett Nelson<\/a>&nbsp;was intentionally walked to load the bases. Hastings&#8217; James Velasquez uncorked a wild pitch and Swennumson crossed the plate with UJ&#8217;s third run.<\/li><li>Singleton&#8217;s solo home run with two outs in the fifth extended Jamestown&#8217;s lead to 4-1.<\/li><li>Liestman (7-1) struck out five and gave up a run on three hits to get the win.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/petty_ethan_tkzn\">Ethan Petty<\/a>&nbsp;got the final out in the sixth and the first of the seventh before giving way to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/brown_hayden_o1z1\">Hayden Brown<\/a>, who recorded the final two outs for his fourth save.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/alva_alex_2y5d\">Alex Alva<\/a>&nbsp;went 2-for-3 at the plate and Roebuck had a double.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/roebuck_isaiah_c1v1\">Isaiah Roebuck<\/a>&#8216;s one-out home run in the bottom of the fifth broke a 5-5 tie and ended up being the difference as the Jimmies took game two by a score of 6-5.<\/li><li>The Jimmies loaded the bases in the bottom of the first with just one out, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/sansores_julian_9g67\">Julian Sansores<\/a>&nbsp;cleared the bases with a home run to right field, giving UJ a 4-1 lead.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/burke_chase_w6pv\">Chase Burke<\/a>&nbsp;drove in a run with a single to left in the bottom of the second as Jamestown went ahead 5-1.<\/li><li>Tyler Kissler led off the fourth with a solo home run for Hastings, making it 5-2, then the Broncos rallied to the game an inning later. Matt Lucero had an RBI double and Jared Delgado added a two-run shot to bring Hastings even at 5-5.<\/li><li>Burke (3-for-4),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/okamoto_riki_cga0\">Riki Okamoto<\/a>&nbsp;(2-for-3), and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/nelson_jett_broq\">Jett Nelson<\/a>&nbsp;(2-for-3) combined for six of Jamestown&#8217;s 10 hits.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/radkey_ryan_xhaz\">Ryan Radkey<\/a>&nbsp;(4-1) got the win in relief, pitching 1 1\/3 innings and giving up a run on two hits.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/brown_hayden_o1z1\">Hayden Brown<\/a>&nbsp;retired the side in the seventh for his fifth save.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><br>GAME 3 HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/burke_chase_w6pv\">Chase Burke<\/a>&nbsp;came through with a clutch two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to complete the tripleheader sweep.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/woods_robert_m4jj\">RJ Woods<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/okamoto_riki_cga0\">Riki Okamoto<\/a>&nbsp;both walked after the first two hitters of the inning struck out.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/steele_sy_n5y2\">Sy Steele<\/a>&nbsp;came on to run for Woods following the walk to Okamoto, and on a 3-2 pitch, Burke singled to right field.<\/li><li>The lead went back and forth from the start, with Hastings leading 1-0 as Jamestown came to bat in the bottom of the first.<\/li><li>Burke and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/alva_alex_2y5d\">Alex Alva<\/a>&nbsp;connected for back-to-back doubles, producing the first UJ run and tying the score.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/singleton_jordan_6pgy\">Jordan Singleton<\/a>&#8216;s RBI single scored Alva in the bottom of the third to put Jamestown ahead, but the Broncos answered with a run in the top of the fourth.<\/li><li>Pinch-hitter&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/sabino_varen_6y17\">Varen Sabino<\/a>&nbsp;singled with one out in the fifth to score Burke and the Jimmies once again took a one-run lead.<\/li><li>Neither team scored in the sixth, then Matt Lucero homered with two out in the seventh to tie the game at 3-3.<\/li><li>Hastings scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth on a bases-loaded wild pitch by Jimmie reliever&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/howard_jack_siuk\">Jack Howard<\/a>. Following an intentional walk to set up a force play with two out, Howard got the next hitter to pop out and leave the Broncos with just a one-run lead.<\/li><li>Howard (5-4) got the win after UJ&#8217;s heroics in the bottom of the inning. Four Jimmie relievers combined to work the final 4 2\/3 innings, allowing only two runs on five hits.<\/li><li>Burke (3-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI), Alva (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI), Singleton (2-for-4, 1 RBI), and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/nelson_jett_broq\">Jett Nelson<\/a>&nbsp;(2-for-4) all had multiple hit games for Jamestown.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UP NEXT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Jamestown is scheduled to host Hastings in a single seven-inning game at 12 p.m. Friday, but if that game is rained out, the Jimmies&#8217; next action will be the GPAC postseason tournament beginning on May 2 with opponent and game time to be determined.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UJ &#8211; University of Jamestown head baseball coach Tom Hager has seen just about everything during his illustrious career leading the Jimmies, but had never completed a tripleheader Brsweep.
