{"id":282139,"date":"2024-05-06T08:55:35","date_gmt":"2024-05-06T13:55:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=282139"},"modified":"2024-05-06T08:55:35","modified_gmt":"2024-05-06T13:55:35","slug":"baseball-forces-deciding-game-in-championship-bid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=282139","title":{"rendered":"Baseball Forces Deciding Game In Championship Bid"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>CRETE, Neb.\u2014<\/strong>&nbsp;The University of Jamestown baseball team rallied from a two-run deficit against Doane (Neb.) to force a deciding game, but eight unanswered runs by the Tigers sent the Jimmies to defeat in the bracket title game Saturday afternoon at Doane Ballfield Complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE BASICS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>SCORES<\/strong>: Jamestown 8, Doane 6; Doane 11, Jamestown 4<\/li><li><strong>LOCATION<\/strong>: Doane Ballfield Complex \/ Crete, Neb.<\/li><li><strong>RECORDS<\/strong>: Jamestown 31-19, Doane 38-12&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/singleton_jordan_6pgy\">Jordan Singleton<\/a>&#8216;s two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh broke a 6-6 tie and helped lift the Jimmies to an 8-6 victory.<\/li><li>An inning earlier, Jamestown trailed 6-4 but leveled the score on a solo homer by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/brown_hayden_o1z1\">Hayden Brown<\/a>&nbsp;and a steal of home by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/bonneville_jackson_5nwq\">Jackson Bonneville<\/a>.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/muizelaar_ryan_46wb\">Ryan Muizelaar<\/a>&nbsp;gave UJ 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, but a three-run double by Noah Winkelman was the key hit in the Tigers&#8217; four-run third inning.<\/li><li>Singleton&#8217;s one-out homer in the bottom of the third cut Doane&#8217;s lead to 4-2, and Jamestown would tie the game an inning later on a double by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/sansores_julian_9g67\">Julian Sansores<\/a>&nbsp;and groundout by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/woods_robert_m4jj\">RJ Woods<\/a>.<\/li><li>A wild pitch by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/hart_joe_zs7r\">Joe Hart<\/a>&nbsp;in the top of the sixth allowed the go-ahead run to score, then the Tigers would add another run later in the inning on a force play.<\/li><li>Singleton (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 HR) and Brown (3-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI) led the way for Jamestown. Sansores (2-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI) also had a multi-hit game.<\/li><li>Hart (1-0), the fourth UJ pitcher, got the win after throwing 2 2\/3 innings of scoreless relief. He struck out four and walked three without giving up a hit.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/torgerson_cade_b2a5\">Cade Torgerson<\/a>&nbsp;recorded the final four outs, including two strikeouts, to record his first save.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/burke_chase_w6pv\">Chase Burke<\/a>&#8216;s squeeze bunt in the top of the third scored&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/sansores_julian_9g67\">Julian Sansores<\/a>&nbsp;with the first run of the game, but Doane answered with a run in the bottom half and two more in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/nelson_jett_broq\">Jett Nelson<\/a>&#8216;s bases-clearing double with two outs in the fifth put Jamestown back in the lead at 4-3, but those would be the final runs for the Jimmies.<\/li><li>The Tigers had only one hit in the bottom of the fifth, but a Jimmie throwing error and wild pitch led to two of the three Doane runs in the inning.<\/li><li>Another run in the seventh made it 7-4 in favor of the Tigers, then a grand slam in the eighth accounted for the final runs of the game.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/okamoto_riki_cga0\">Riki Okamoto<\/a>&nbsp;went 2-for-5 from the leadoff spot, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/alva_alex_2y5d\">Alex Alva<\/a>&nbsp;added a double.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2023-24\/bios\/nipp_connor_ex3h\">Connor Nipp<\/a>&nbsp;(0-2), the third of six Jimmie relievers, took the loss after giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits in two innings.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UP NEXT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Jamestown ends the year with an overall record of 31-19, marking 12 out of the last 14 complete seasons that the Jimmies have won 30 or more games.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CRETE, Neb.\u2014&nbsp;The University of Jamestown baseball team rallied from a two-run deficit against Doane (Neb.) to force a deciding game, but eight unanswered runs by the Tigers sent the Jimmies to defeat in the bracket title game Saturday afternoon at Doane Ballfield Complex.
