{"id":282351,"date":"2024-05-10T09:05:41","date_gmt":"2024-05-10T14:05:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=282351"},"modified":"2024-05-10T09:05:42","modified_gmt":"2024-05-10T14:05:42","slug":"six-vcsu-vikings-earn-all-conference-on-day-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=282351","title":{"rendered":"Six VCSU Vikings Earn All-Conference On Day 1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MADISON, S.D. \u2013 Valley City State University track and field won a conference title, added a new national qualifier and picked up six All-Conference honors on day one of the North Star Athletic Association Conference Championships.<br>\u00a0<br><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/kendra-odegard\/3628\">Kendra Odegard&#8217;s<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0title in the women&#8217;s javelin headlined the first day of competition on Thursday in Madison, S.D. Odegard threw a career-best distance of 46.55 meters (152 feet, 8 inches) to win the conference title for the third year in a row. That is also the top throw in the NAIA this season heading into the national meet, May 22-24 in Marion, Ind.<br>\u00a0<br>VCSU junior\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/sadie-hansen\/3623\">Sadie Hansen<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0will also be competing at the national meet as she hit the NAIA &#8220;B&#8221; National Qualifying Standard in the javelin competition Thursday. Hansen&#8217;s mark of 39.95 meters was good for 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0place at the meet behind Odegard and surpassed the national qualifying mark of 39.50 meters. It will be Hansen&#8217;s first time competing at the national meet.<br>\u00a0<br>Odegard and Hansen each earned All-Conference honors, which go to the Top 3 individuals in each event. Valley City State finished with day with a first place (Odegard), four second-place finishes and a third place.<br>\u00a0<br>Freshman\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/karina-olson\/3639\">Karina Olson<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0took second place in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 14.82 seconds. Senior\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/jasmine-barnes\/3619\">Jasmine Barnes<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0placed second in the women&#8217;s 10,000 meter run, recording a career-best time of 41 minutes, 50.17 seconds.<br>\u00a0<br><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/mens-track-and-field\/roster\/cameron-champagnie\/3660\">Cameron Champagnie<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0placed 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0in the men&#8217;s triple jump, finishing with a top mark of 13.72 meters (45 feet, 0.25 inches).<br>\u00a0<br>In the women&#8217;s triple jump,\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/vcsuvikings.com\/sports\/womens-track-and-field\/roster\/emma-muggli\/3638\">Emma Muggli<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0placed third with a career-best jump of 10.55 meters (34 feet, 7.5 inches).<br>\u00a0<br>The Top 8 finishers in each event earn team points at the conference meet. The Viking men are currently 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0with 38 points. The VCSU women are also 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0with 60 points. Six teams are competing.<br>\u00a0<br>The NSAA Championships conclude with a full day of events on Friday.
