Min Twins<\/strong> – Once in a while, you\u2019ll get that heartwarming moment where a player picks up a first career strikeout or clubs a homer while members of his family are being interviewed on the broadcast — and those lead to some of the most fun reactions for everyone to share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simeon Woods Richardson<\/a>, unfortunately, got the opposite end of that as part of his first career start in his hometown on Sunday, when his mom, Wendy Blair-Woods, was in the act of being interviewed on television by reporter Julia Morales when Woods Richardson allowed a second-inning blast to Victor Caratini — with the interview cutting off shortly thereafter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI know! I heard someone actually say, \u2018Yeah, he kind of fell apart after they put mom on camera,\u2019\u201d Blair-Woods said. \u201cI’m like, \u2018Ohhh! Did I jinx him?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She did not, considering she\u2019s been there from childhood to pro ball — and the Twins ended up winning anyway. Thanks to two late RBI knocks by Jose Miranda<\/a>, Minnesota claimed its fourth consecutive series victory by coming from behind in a 4-3 win<\/a> over the Astros on Sunday at Minute Maid Park — and a triumphant homecoming for Woods Richardson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Woods Richardson had no idea of any jinx or home run interview, anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI mean, I\u2019m just trying to pitch a ballgame,\u201d Woods Richardson said. \u201cHandle the task at hand.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the\u00a0return of Royce Lewis now imminent<\/a>\u00a0and expected to occur on Tuesday, Miranda continued to assert his case for why he\u2019s earned a continued place on this team by crushing a game-tying blast to left-center off Hunter Brown in the sixth, then followed it with an RBI double off Ryan Pressly in the eighth to erase an early 3-2 Minnesota deficit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those three runs had been given up on a pair of homers by the Astros off Woods Richardson, who had been staying at home in Sugar Land — in the southwestern suburbs of Houston — on this trip and had grown up a big Astros fan, to the point where he had one of his childhood birthday parties in the outfield upper deck at Minute Maid Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, he\u2019d known the risks of pitching in Houston and leaving hittable pitches to Caratini while his mom was on camera, then to Alex Bregman for a two-run blast in the third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve watched games all my life here,\u201d Woods Richardson said. \u201cSo knowing that they have the Crawford Boxes, that\u2019s easy for righties, and for lefties, you have a short porch as well, so I just want to try and learn how to pitch around them and maneuver in the different ballparks.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
