VALLEY CITY, N.D. (from Valley News Live<\/a>) – One person is dead and multiple people had to be rescued after an apartment fire in Valley City Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Valley City Fire Department says, they were called just after 12:35 a.m. October, 23, to an apartment at 215 6th Ave. SW<\/strong> after reports of heavy smoke and fire coming from the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire officials say, when crews arrived, multiple people were found trapped inside. Crews rescued a total of seven people through the windows of various apartments. Officials say, others jumped out of the windows to escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It took crews roughly an hour to extinguish the fire. The Red Cross is assisting residents of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials say one person died, but no names will be released at this time. The body is being sent to UND for an autopsy. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the North Dakota Fire Marshal\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
