GRAND FORKS \u2013<\/strong> No. 14\/16 North Dakota dropped a 5-1 decision to No. 4\/5 Western Michigan on Saturday night from a sold-out Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.

UND (12-10-1, 7-5-0 NCHC) could not overcome a 3-0 deficit, as the Broncos (15-4-1, 8-1-1) capped off the sweep and took five-of-six points in the league standings.

Cameron Berg<\/a><\/dfn> scored the lone goal of the night for the hosts, wiring home his sixth of the season in just 11 games while goaltender T.J. Semptimphelter<\/a><\/dfn> finished with 37 saves on 42 shots against to drop to 10-7-1 on the season.

After a strong start by the hosts for the second straight night, Western Michigan opened the scoring just over halfway through the first before extending the lead to 2-0 with a power play goal late in the stanza heading into the first intermission.

The Broncos increased the lead to 3-0 in the early portions of the second, but UND started to chip away in the middle portions of the frame when Berg snapped home a shot for his sixth of the year to cut the lead to 3-1. The Hawks had a chance to trim further into the deficit with a couple of good chances but couldn’t solve the WMU goaltender while the Broncos added a fourth goal in the final seconds of the second to take a 4-1 lead after two.

WMU added a fifth in the third period to close out the 5-1 victory and the sweep.

North Dakota will have an off weekend before hitting the road for a series with St. Cloud State beginning on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m.
