SAINT PAUL, Minn. \u2013<\/strong> The University of North Dakota women’s basketball team fell 77-54 to St. Thomas on Wednesday night at Schoenecker Arena. The Fighting Hawks dropped to 8-16 overall and 3-8 in Summit League play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Dakota struggled to find its rhythm early, trailing 15-7 after the first quarter while shooting just 16.7% (3-of-18) from the field compared to St. Thomas’s 35.5% (6-of-17). Nevaeh Ferrara Horne<\/a><\/dfn> contributed all seven points in the first frame off three field goals including one three-pointer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hawks battled back in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 37-21 at halftime. Mikayla Aumer<\/a><\/dfn> provided a spark, scoring five of 14 points in the frame. With seven turnovers, UND was held to just 11 field goal attempts, converting only four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UND’s best offensive stretch came in the third quarter, outscoring the Tommies 24-16 while shooting 63.6% (7-of-11) from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Aumer went 2-of-2 with three-pointers, while Walker Demers<\/a><\/dfn> added six points to help trim the deficit to single digits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the third-quarter surge, St. Thomas took control in the fourth, closing the game on a 24-9 run. The Tommies shot a blistering 75% (9-of-12) in the final frame, compared to the Hawks’ 37.5% (3-of-8).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Dakota will look to bounce back Saturday, February 15 as they host North Dakota State at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
