{"id":292817,"date":"2025-04-18T09:36:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-18T14:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=292817"},"modified":"2025-04-18T12:44:42","modified_gmt":"2025-04-18T17:44:42","slug":"uj-baseball-wins-twice-over-briar-cliff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=292817","title":{"rendered":"UJ Baseball Wins Twice Over Briar Cliff"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/UJbaseball.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/UJbaseball.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-292818\" width=\"598\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/UJbaseball.jpg 800w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/UJbaseball-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/UJbaseball-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/UJbaseball-350x175.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>REDFIELD, S.D.\u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>The Jimmie baseball team rallied from a 9-6 deficit in the final two innings Monday afternoon against Briar Cliff University to post a one-run win in game one, then combined for 14 runs in the middle three innings for a 15-4 victory and a sweep of the Chargers at Redfield Baseball Field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE BASICS<\/strong><br><strong>SCORES:&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;Jamestown 10-15, Briar Cliff 9-4<br><strong>LOCATION:<\/strong>&nbsp;Redfield Baseball Field \/ Redfield, S.D.<br><strong>RECORDS:<\/strong>&nbsp;Jamestown 29-11; Briar Cliff 17-20<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GAME ONE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Briar Cliff got on the board for a pair of runs in the top of the first, but the Jimmies took a one-run lead after&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/ryan-muizelaar\/17383\">Ryan Muizelaar&#8217;s<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;three-run homer in the bottom of the inning.<\/li><li>Jamestown plated a pair of runs in the second without the benefit of a hit.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/riki-okamoto\/17387\">Riki Okamoto<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;scored on a balk and&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/chase-burke\/17359\">Chase Burke<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;crossed the plate on a steal of home to make it 5-2.<\/li><li>The Chargers got within 5-4 after scoring twice in the top of the fourth, then in the bottom half UJ got one of the runs back when Muizelaar came home as&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/triston-madison\/17378\">Triston Madison<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;reached on an error.<\/li><li>A five-run sixth inning from Briar Cliff gave them a 9-6 lead, and while the Jimmies were down, they were not completely out of the game.<\/li><li>A double by Madison and a single by&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/isaiah-roebuck\/17393\">Isaiah Roebuck<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;brought in a pair of runs as Jamestown cut the deficit to one run going into their final at-bat.<\/li><li>Burke opened the inning with a walk, then stole second base.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/alex-alva\/17355\">Alex Alva<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;was hit by a pitch, then Muizelaar singled through the left side to score Burke and move Alva to second.<\/li><li><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/sy-steele\/17401\">Sy Steele<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners a base, and Madison delivered the game-winner, a single through the right side that allowed Alva to come home with the deciding run.<\/li><li>Muizelaar had a big day at the plate, batting a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Madison added a pair of hits and drove in two.<\/li><li><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/payton-hochhalter\/17373\">Payton Hochhalter<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;(1-0), the last of eight Jimmie pitchers in the game, retired the only hitter he faced in the top of the seventh to get the win.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GAME TWO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Jamestown used a six-run third inning to take a 7-1 lead and went on to a 15-4 victory to finish the sweep of Briar Cliff.<\/li><li><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/chase-burke\/17359\">Chase Burke&#8217;s<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;solo home run started the scoring while&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/ben-patton\/17389\">Ben Patton&#8217;s<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;three-run homer capped off UJ&#8217;s offensive outburst.<\/li><li>The Chargers got within 7-3 after a two-run homer in the top of the fourth, but the Jimmies turned in another six-run inning that ended up being the knockout blow.<\/li><li><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/triston-madison\/17378\">Triston Madison&#8217;s<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;two-run single made it 10-3, then after RBI singles by Patton and&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/ben-swennumson\/17405\">Ben Swennumson<\/a><\/dfn>,&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/alex-alva\/17355\">Alex Alva<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;hit a sacrifice fly for the final run of the inning.<\/li><li>Madison and&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/isaiah-roebuck\/17393\">Isaiah Roebuck<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;scored on separate wild pitches in the bottom of the fifth for the final Jimmie runs.<\/li><li>Roebuck turned in a 3-for-4 game at the plate, while Swennumson, Patton, and Burke all had two hits.<\/li><li><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/nolan-mccaffery\/17380\">Nolan McCaffery<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;(1-0) got the win in his first UJ start, giving up three runs on five hits over four innings.<\/li><li><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/payton-hochhalter\/17373\">Payton Hochhalter<\/a><\/dfn>, Patton, and&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/jimmiepride.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/varen-sabino\/17396\">Varen Sabino<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;combined to pitch the final three innings and allowed only one run on two hits.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UP NEXT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Jimmies return to conference play with a weekend series at home against Dickinson State (N.D.)
