Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 8, 2013) \u2013 A 71 year old Litchville man died about 3:30-p.m., Tuesday on Barnes County Road 38, five miles north of Litchville.<\/p>\n

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, the 1988 Corvette convertible was westbound on a straight level portion of the paved county road. The vehicle gradually drifted into the north ditch. The vehicle rotated clockwise and rolled. The driver was ejected. The vehicle and driver came to rest in a soybean field.<\/p>\n

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt.<\/p>\n

The man\u2019s name has not yet been released.<\/p>\n

\u3000VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) – Valley City police are investigating a string of burglaries at local churches.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say five churches and the city\/county public library have been targeted by thieves over the last two weekends. Police Chief Fred Thompson says he believes the burglaries are connected.

Jamestown, N.D. (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 8, 2013) \u2013 Gov. Jack Dalrymple Tuesday celebrated the completion of the Lutheran Social Services Legacy Center in Jamestown. The residential and commercial center, a major renovation of the former Jamestown Hospital, includes rental housing for adults of various income levels, a child care center, a wellness center and senior citizen services.<\/p>\n

The grand opening of Lutheran Social Services Legacy Center was held at the center\u2019s front lobby.<\/p>\n

Lutheran Social Services provided tours of the center at 1pm<\/p>\n

Governor Jack Dalrymple says, “This project is a great example of what can be accomplished by working together to meet the needs of our growing communities and enhance our quality of life. Lutheran Social Services has done an outstanding job transforming this landmark building to provide a creative housing solution and to support other public services that strengthen communities.”<\/p>\n

The Lutheran Social Services Legacy Center includes 20 low-income apartments for residents 62 years of age or older and 31 apartments without income restrictions for residents 55 or older. The building also houses a privately owned child care center, a community wellness center and is home to the James River Senior Center. From the renovated hospital, the James River Senior Center offers a regional meal program and transportation program for seniors. The Legacy Center is expected to draw other commercial businesses as well.<\/p>\n

The North Dakota Department of Commerce awarded Lutheran Social Services a $220,000 HOME program grant to assist in the development of the project\u2019s low-income housing. The Bank of North Dakota and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development also assisted in the project\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

Director of Lutheran Social Services Housing, Jessica Thomasson, says “Lutheran Social Services Housing is honored to be able to launch its new brand of apartments for adults 55 and over through redevelopment of this beautiful former hospital building in Jamestown. We are now working to replicate this model in other North Dakota communities, beginning with our current renovation of Williston\u2019s historic high school. By attracting additional partners, such as local senior centers, to share these new homes with us, Lutheran Social Services is creating a new kind of community anchor for older adults and their families.”<\/p>\n

Officials from Roers, Inc. joined Lutheran Social Services in sponsoring the grand opening event. Roers served as a co-leader in the Legacy Center project since its inception in 2010. The firm served as a development and architectural partner in the renovation and led the construction process.<\/p>\n

Joining Dalrymple for the center\u2019s dedication included Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota CEO Robert Sanderson, Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen, Jessica Thomasson, director of Lutheran Social Services Housing, Larry Nygard of Roers and Joel Manske of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.<\/p>\n

North Dakota is developing new housing at a faster rate than any other state in the nation. North Dakota added 7,388 new housing units last year, the nation\u2019s strongest growth rate at 2.3 percent, according to estimates compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau.<\/p>\n

The state facilitates the development of low-and moderate-income housing in several ways, including the Housing Incentive Fund. Capitalized with$15.4 million in state funds and contributions from state taxpayers, the HIF provides developers of affordable rental housing with low-cost financing. The individuals, businesses and financial institutions that help to further build this fund receive a dollar-for-dollar state income tax credit.<\/p>\n

During the last biennium, the HIF program supported the development of 669 affordable housing units in western North Dakota and other areas of the state. Fully capitalized, the program is projected to facilitate the development of about another 1,000 affordable housing units in 2013 and 2014.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 9, 2013) — Due to the partial shutdown of the federal government, the staff of the Stutsman County Soil Conservation District in Jamestown, has re-located to the basement of the Health to Go & H20 location, at 1015 5th Avenue, Northeast.<\/p>\n

The Stutsman County Soil Conservation District is responsible for administering tree planting and other programs to prevent soil erosion in the county. The regular office space is shared with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency, and is leased by the federal government, closed on October 1st by the partial government shutdown.<\/p>\n

Cooperstown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 8, 2013)\u00a0— \u00a0Residents of Griggs County have kicked all five county commissioners out of office.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The five county leaders were ousted in a recall election Tuesday prompted by a dispute over a new courthouse.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Commissioners voted last spring to proceed with building a $3.5 million courthouse and emergency operations center, despite voters rejecting the idea three times in separate elections in fewer than two years. Commissioners said the courthouse built in 1884 has serious health and structural issues – including mold – and that fixing the problems would be too costly.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The move prompted a petition drive that led to the recall vote.
\n\u00a0

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 FBI spokesman Kyle Loven says the agent was treated at a hospital and released after the incident Monday night east of Watford City. The agent wasn’t identified.

\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Booths were detained at the Northgate port of entry in western North Dakota about 4:30 p.m. Monday. Customs and Border Patrol officers found about $73,000 in Canadian money behind a bathroom cabinet in the couple’s motorhome.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jonna Booth told investigators the couple has traveled to Winnipeg once a month since January to sell pot. She says they decided to go through North Dakota this time because of snowstorms in the Canadian Rockies.

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – A man accused of having a deadly punch is on trial in Mandan.<\/p>\n

Twenty-three-year-old Colten Towry is accused of manslaughter in the death a year ago of 30-year-old Derek Oshkeshequoam (awsh-KEESH’-kuh-wawm) at a party in Mandan. Authorities allege Towry struck Oshkeshequoam during a fight, and Oshkeshequoam later died of head injuries.<\/p>\n

Prosecutor Brian Grosinger and defense attorney Ken Morrow say there is no dispute that Towry threw a punch. Grosinger told jurors that they have to decide “what does it mean?”<\/p>\n

The two men who rented the home left Oshkeshequoam at a hospital emergency room the next day. They were charged with reckless endangerment. Joseph Houle pleaded guilty earlier and was sentenced to serve six months in jail. Christopher Vernon faces a November trial.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Prosecutors in Fargo want the state Supreme Court to overturn a judge’s decision to dismiss some cases that used drug-sniffing dogs.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 District Court Judge Wickham Corwin ruled in May that authorities couldn’t use evidence against 19-year-old Matthew Nguyen because police used a dog to smell for drugs allegedly coming from under his apartment door.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Forum reports Corwin cited a U.S. Supreme Court opinion stating it was a search that required a warrant because the renter shares the hallway with others.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In his appeal brief, Cass County prosecutor Gary Euren argued the U.S. Supreme Court case doesn’t apply to Nguyen’s case. Defense attorney Mark Friese asked the high court to uphold Corwin’s decision, arguing it was similar.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The dispute landed in court after the two sides couldn’t agree on terms for a two-year contract. The school board unilaterally issued two-year contracts in July after a state fact-finding commission sided with the board’s final offer. The Dickinson Education Association sued on behalf of teachers over the two-year deal.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Association attorney Michael Geiermann says Herauf’s ruling is a victory. School board attorney Rachel Ann Bruner-Kaufman says the board will decide whether to appeal to the North Dakota Supreme Court.

FARGO, ND\u00a0\u2014 Fargo police has arrested and booked the son of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky on suspicion of drunken driving.<\/p>\n

Fargo police Lt. Joel Vettel says an officer spotted 36 year old Jon Sandusky, making an illegal turn about 1:50 a.m. Tuesday. The officer pulled Sandusky over and determined after administering field sobriety tests that he was driving under the influence.<\/p>\n

Sandusky, is the director of player personnel for the Cleveland Browns. He did not say where he had been before he was pulled over.<\/p>\n

Sandusky was booked into the Cass County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.<\/p>\n

Jail staff said he posted bail later Tuesday.<\/p>\n
